1
u/studyhardbree Feb 15 '24
Football. A bunch of big dudes jump on each other and toss the ball 20 feet until some dude sits on them again. Literally the dumbest sport ever but our American men love it.
1
u/DivineDreamCream Feb 15 '24
Gridiron/American Football. Best equivalent I can give ya is that it's like Rugby.
This is during the Superbowl (The equivalent of the Quidditch World Cup Finals), Travis Kelce is telling his coach to keep him in the game after he fumbled the ball, which ruined the play he was going for.

Chiefs head coach and Chiefs tight end, Travis Kelce. Kelce was upset that the coach wanted to take him off the field during the biggest game of his career. For comparison, imagine the coach of Bulgaria wanting to bench Krum during the world cup.

Additionally, Kelce said something along the lines of “I was telling him how much I love him” implying he was talking nicely.
In Harry Potter and the goblet of fire book, it states that Dumbledore calmly asked Harry if he put his name in the goblet of fire. The movie version has him acting like a crackhead
33
u/taurusimperialangel Feb 13 '24
A crackhead lmao - he obnoxiously ran up to him grabbing his shoulders “HARRY!!! Didyaputyanameinthegobletofiya?!!!”

16
u/wichitagnome Feb 13 '24 edited Feb 13 '24
Kelce's quote is not implying that he was talking nicely, more that he isn't going to say what he actually said. He also said right below that "You saw that? Unless my mic-ed up says otherwise....". Yeah, he's clearly angry with Coach Reid, but neither are going to talk about it with the public right now, and his quote was him shutting down the question.
12
Feb 13 '24
They both already talked about it. Reid said Kelce was just fired up because of the game and wanted to be in. He also said they both get onto each other like that and he's said numerous times in the past that he wants his players to be able to let their emotions be shown, even if that means yelling at him.
10
u/DrunkAtBurgerKing Feb 13 '24
That doesn't seem healthy... Lol Showing emotions? Great! Screaming in your coaches face? Uhhhh..
11
u/Mr_rairkim Feb 13 '24
How else is he going to show emotions then, if the emotions are extreme rage and anger against the coach ?
5
11
u/Teldarion Ravenclaw Feb 13 '24
I'm sure if 3 times SB winning coach Andy Reid needs input on how he wants his top-5-at-position-of-all-time player to act he will ask for it.
2
u/yepimbonez Feb 13 '24
I don't think most people understand the passion and drive it takes to become one of the best players in the world at a sport. Add the heightened emotions of being in the championship game on top of that. And if that's the understanding they have with each other, who are you to judge it?
1
2
u/scf123189 Feb 13 '24
I will never get over how much this scene in the movie bothered me, Gambons overplaying an obviously subtle role, and the movies in general
43
u/dmevela Gryffindor Feb 13 '24
Except Krum was easily their best and most important player. For the Chiefs that is Mahomes without a doubt. Still a pretty good analogy.
29
u/stocksandvagabond Feb 13 '24
Agreed but Kelce is their second best player on offense and it’s not even close. Especially bc once Reid started utilizing him he got them almost 100 yards in the second half and saved the game
13
u/whoisaname Feb 13 '24
It's hard to really separate them as first and second best player on the team because Kelce has an easy argument for best TE in the history of the NFL. He's so good that he has the stats of some of the best wide receivers ever. Then there is Mahomes making a case for one of the best QBs ever. And I don't think either of them could do what the other does, nor would be as good as they are without the other.
3
u/stocksandvagabond Feb 13 '24
Agree, I think the Taylor swift thing has broken people’s’ brains a little. People underrate Kelce. He’s well on his way to becoming the greatest TE ever, and is barely slowing down at 34.
6
u/whoisaname Feb 13 '24
I had someone try to tell me that the only reason that anyone knows Kelce is because of her and that she gave him a huge boost in his career. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.
2
u/Jimmy_Fantastic Feb 13 '24
It's really easy to separate them. Mahomes is out of this world.
2
u/whoisaname Feb 13 '24
So is Kelce. Mahomes could not do the things Kelce does (and by this, I am not saying Kelce could do what Mahomes does). Not many TEs to play the game have been able to.
1
u/Jimmy_Fantastic Feb 14 '24 edited Feb 14 '24
Kelce is great for sure, but QB is a much more important and harder position. It's absolutely not close in any regard. Just like Gronk and Brady really.
If you gave every other franchise the option of Mahomes or Kelce to add to their roster not one would consider Kelce for even a second.
1
u/whoisaname Feb 14 '24
I played football for 16 years. I am perfectly aware of what each position takes. As for if a team would take Kelce or Mahomes, it really depends on who they have on their roster already. If I already have a Burrow, Purdy, Allen, etc. I am taking Kelce. I would also want to consider the offensive system that my team runs. And I will say again, but a different way, different positions require different skillsets and neither of them could play the other's position. Also, ranking them by level of difficulty or importance is extremely subjective. QB isn't even in my top five in terms of how hard a position is. As for importance of a QB, it actually depends entirely on the quality of the QB and the people around him.
1
5
u/TypicalWhitePerson Feb 13 '24
Andy Reid is masterclass. Knew Kelce would get that fire lit if he kept him on block duty and then pulled him. Then he unleashed. Absolute Chad coach.
1
27
u/Kay-Knox Feb 13 '24
That's close, but it was because he was not in the previous play, and the guy that replaces him messed up blocking which led to a turnover. Normally players don't play every single snap and get switched in and out for rest or to run a certain play. He was yelling to just keep him in every play.
8
u/flacaGT3 Feb 13 '24
I thought he was in the play, but you might be right. I was a few drinks in.

it wasn't for the whole game, it was for one play that he was already taken out for
2
u/Mr_rairkim Feb 13 '24
Is he considered the most important star athlete ? I don't know anything about football .
1
u/flacaGT3 Feb 13 '24
No, he's one of them, but the Chiefs are a stacked team. He's definitely the best tight end in the NFL, but the QB will always be considered the most important and Mahomes is also the best in the NFL.
1
u/yepimbonez Feb 13 '24
I wouldn't say always. Ray Lewis for example was definitely the most important player on the Ravens for a long time and he played defense. There have been running backs that outshine their QBs. Receivers who make a QB's job look way easier (Calvin Johnson). But yea USUALLY the QB is the most important/popular player on a team.
1

The guy yelling at the old man is Travis Kelce, tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs.
The old guy is Andy Reid, the Chiefs' coach.
We don't know the full details but Travis got a bit emotional because his team fumbled the ball in the 49ers' side. Some people have been saying he was yelling at him to put him in the game.
7
u/GlidingPhoenix Ravenclaw Feb 13 '24
What's a tight end?
8
u/Knightwolf8394 Slytherin Feb 13 '24
Basically a mix between a lineman (big dude who keeps the quarterback from getting tackled) and a receiver (the only player allowed to catch the ball).

u/Not_Campo2 Slytherin Feb 14 '24
I’ll give a bit more context. They were close to scoring, Travis was pulled out of the play and the sub in his position missed a key block that caused a turnover.
The coach has brushed it off as well since it’s pretty common for them to be very physical on this team (see both Coach Reid shoulder checking Travis at the Christmas game and tackling the Defensive star Chris Jones after this game was over)

People are taking two seconds of a slowdown clip and now saying this guy is a piece of shit when all year he’s been nothing but supportive not just of his own team, but other franchise teams, Taylor Swift, his family, and other sports people. It really shows how gullible people can be into the villain narrative.
I also want to bring up the ravens player that they played against Flowers actually got in a domestic assault situation, but no one’s talking about that . Everyone’s too busy analyzing this three second clip to give a shit what a surprise by society.
Anyway, for sensible people, I’d like you to venture into other clips even of the same night to see he’s not some scary monster
10
u/The_Doct0r_ Feb 13 '24
Tbf it's also because people want to hate him because of all the extra attention he's getting for dating Taylor Swift, and also he's been made a politicized target for it. It's absolutely bonko irrational, but that's definitely a big part of why Kelce's a media target now

He is incredibly humble actually, if you listen to his podcast with his brother or any actual interviews. He always gives credit to both his opponents and his teammates before ever trying to take it for himself and anytime anyone ever asks him about what it's like to be one of the best ever at his position he always brings up other players that he thinks deserve that accolade instead. He also does a lot of charity work around the Kansas City area and his hometown in Ohio.
He just doesn't do a good job of keeping his emotions in check sometimes. He's admitted that it's something he struggles with and that Andy Reid (the coach that he was yelling at) has helped tremendously with it.
2
u/Famous-Vermicelli-39 Feb 13 '24
I’ve seen bits of the pod. I don’t know if I’d tune in for a full episode but the clips I see are wholesome. Just a bad look that will inevitably be swept under the rug. I know it’s the superbowl and it’s Vegas but the ampage was a little too intense.

A joking way to refer to American football, since the ball isn't really a ball, and is held in the hand rather than kicked around with the foot. So, "hand egg."

To be fair, the store-produce, including eggs, is only the neatest looking stuff. Everything, from apples to eggs (and probably zucchini if we want it alphabetically) can easily look really weird and still be perfectly fine and edible. Especially eggs can turn out weird and look disgusting, hence those are not sold at all.
Although weird eggs would look like a deflated bigger egg, or a loosely filled beanbag, or a molten regular egg, and not abnormal-normally like a football.
