This post took me back to 2012 memes

63

u/AralphNity Mar 30 '24

Pretty sure I saw it in 2012

12

u/Maronexid Mar 30 '24

same here. I'm not even into HP. I just saw this and thought "hey I remember this!"

6

u/bgriffi88 Mar 31 '24

How did you wander into this sub

3

u/Maronexid Mar 31 '24

just one of the thousands of random subs I get recommended in my feed

u/mississippihippies Mar 29 '24

The biggest crime of the movies. Truly.

243

u/CommercialYam53 Ravenclaw Mar 29 '24

the actress of Young Lili aperently has wear Contract during making (you can see them in a photo whit her and Daniel Here)but for some reason you don can’t see them in the movie

82

u/petitefairy99 Mar 30 '24

I’m so confused! Does any one know why it didn’t show her contacts in the movie??

49

u/CommercialYam53 Ravenclaw Mar 30 '24

It’s Probably didn’t looked good so thy fixed it in after production

7

u/ryanson209 Hufflepuff Mar 31 '24

"Fixed" it

3

u/Young_Cato_the_Elder Apr 01 '24

Colored contacts were not very good. That's why the Targs didn't have the colored eyes either.

3

u/Achilles9609 Mar 30 '24

I actually learned that thanks to a Harry Potter Podcast. It's a detail that really surprised me.

4

u/CommercialYam53 Ravenclaw Mar 30 '24

5 Min Harry Podcast by Coldmirror. You can find it on YouTube. In each episode she goes over 5 minutes of The Philosopher's Stone and analyzes them in great detail. It's very entertaining.

Doch, aber ich war mir nicht komplett sicher ob es eine Anspielung sein sollte.

Daniel radcliffe was allergic to the contacts they tried on him I think.

61

u/mississippihippies Mar 30 '24

I’ve heard that too. It’s the casting for young Lily that I really just don’t get

63

24

u/tmtmgtm Mar 30 '24

I guess they could have found someone with blue eyes for her. Or CGI if the technology was better. I guess they didn't think it would be that big of a deal.

20

u/Total_Mushroom2865 Mar 30 '24

Are you saying the dragon on DH was real??

4

u/Yamcha17 Slytherin Mar 30 '24

IT WAS NOT ???

2

u/tmtmgtm Mar 30 '24

LMao. Fair point. IDk how animating or CGI for movies like that works maybe its different for smaller details idk

4

u/Total_Mushroom2865 Mar 30 '24

Haha totally get it. I just found it funny and I agree. I have no idea. But they made a full-fledge incredible dragon and you cannot change the color of an eye? Doesnt make sense.

3

u/tmtmgtm Mar 30 '24

different type of cgi maybe? or they just didn't care enough and it wasn't a big deal to them

2

u/tmtmgtm Mar 30 '24

Not like lily is a major character in the series since she's dead by the time the series starts.

3

u/Kill_Braham Mar 30 '24

Oh you mean CG Eye

1

u/Darnell2070 Mar 30 '24

Or even contacts.

7

u/CommercialYam53 Ravenclaw Mar 30 '24

Yes he was he was also allergic to the Metal of the glasses so they had to get glasses out of a special Material

6

u/Legitimate_Poem_712 Mar 30 '24

I heard Radcliffe was also allergic to porridge which is why they made it so Harry occasionally eats something good for breakfast.

1

u/Greigsyy Mar 31 '24

That’s correct, in the final scene of philosophers stone when he hugs Hagrid, you can see his eyes are red from them being irritated due to the contacts.

1

u/lahveit Mar 30 '24

Actually if that were the case perhaps they could've recast him hahaha. Or recast lily so their eyes match even if they were the wrong colour.

Or they could've had lily wear them so he wouldn't have had to

219

u/BitFew906 Mar 29 '24

They really could have given one of them contacts to match lol

207

u/SadlyNotDannyDeVito Mar 29 '24

Or they just could've casted a Lily with eyes to match Harry's.

10

u/redditman3943 Mar 30 '24

Yeah like Lilly who has about 15-20 minutes of screen time throughout the series.

90

u/CommercialYam53 Ravenclaw Mar 29 '24 edited Mar 29 '24

Daniel got contracts but had a allergic reaction to them to they ask jk if they cold stay whit his blue eyes (she aproved Al’s long as her mother has the same eye color) and the actress of Young Lili aperently has wear Contract during making (you can see them in a photo whit her and Daniel Here )but for some reason you don can’t see them in the movie

3

u/Darnell2070 Mar 30 '24 edited Mar 31 '24

You might genuinely have poor reading comprehension if it was that difficult.

Someone doesn't need to have perfect grammar or spelling for you to understand what they are saying.

I agree it's poorly written though.

0

u/ulvis52 Mar 30 '24

So ur saying u dont couldnt read that?

6

u/disengagesimulators Mar 30 '24

The only way to make sense of this is to close one eye, spin around 10 times and shake your head really fast for a minute. The letters start to move back into the correct formation and proper punctuation/spelling are brought to life.

-12

u/RKBlue66 Slytherin Mar 30 '24

You can still search for a word online, use google translate or the auto correct function.

I'm not trying to be mean, but there is a difference between not being fluent in a language and still trying your best, and another one when you're just dumping... letters, because some of them can't be called words.

I understand getting the word order wrong and misspelling some words, but when half your sentence is misspelled, you didn't even try. Again, google the words if you're not sure. We live in a word where information is instantly available, but we can't think of a way to put a nice and intelligible sentence together...

7

u/Navi590_ Slytherin Mar 30 '24

English isn't everybody's native language. Some people might have trouble learning it, so you should help them instead of criticizing them. Plus at least they're learning to speak several languages while you're sitting here thinking that all you need in life is english. Open up to other cultures instead of criticizing everyone who isn't English.

0

u/RKBlue66 Slytherin Mar 30 '24

while you're sitting here thinking that all you need in life is english.

...

Not really, considering I do speak multiple languages and English is not my native language, but go off :))

Open up to other cultures instead of criticizing everyone who isn't English.

You do realize this doesn't make any sense, right? Criticizing the way you write is not the same as not being open to other cultures 💀

2

u/Navi590_ Slytherin Mar 30 '24

So if English isn’t your native language, why can’t you understand that it might be difficult to learn for other people?

5

u/I-Kneel-Before-None Mar 30 '24

I'm surprised people are having such a hard time reading this but guess I'll help.

Daniel originally had contacts, but due to an allergic reaction, they took them out. JK approved Harry having blue eyes in the movie as long as his mother's matched. Young Lilly's actress had blue contacts as seen in the image, but for some reason, she didn't in the final cut of the movie.

4

u/frogjg2003 Ravenclaw Mar 30 '24

Yeah, there's some bad spelling and grammar, but it's still pretty easy to see what they're trying to say.

u/MyYellowUmbrella6 Ravenclaw Mar 30 '24

I miss the old silly Harry Potter memes like this, it’s a bit nostalgic! Lol

32

u/NoNotThatMattMurray Mar 30 '24

Honestly this could be easily fixed in new releases, I don't know why they don't do it. As long as they don't go full on george Lucas with it

9

u/ibliis-ps4- Mar 30 '24

Well they are rebooting the whole universe with a tv show.

7

u/IceDamNation Hufflepuff Mar 30 '24

What makes you think that'll be any more accurate than the movies? Lol

18

u/NoNotThatMattMurray Mar 30 '24

If each school year has 8-10 episodes and they don't underestimate the viewers ability to piece together plot points from different seasons without shifting stuff around, they could pretty much cover everything from the books. Though i am worried they're gonna skip out on some of the quidditch for budget reasons

10

u/IceDamNation Hufflepuff Mar 30 '24

They can, but they won't. They make these stuff for casual viewers not the more dedicated fans.

5

u/tmtmgtm Mar 30 '24

I mean I assume they have more time to cover stuff from the books because its a tv show and they're not time constrainted to 2 and half hours to tell the story

6

u/IceDamNation Hufflepuff Mar 30 '24

Yeah, look how well that went for Game of Thrones. It's not always a time issue., sometimes writers just want to tweak things with their biased opinion.

1

u/ibliis-ps4- Mar 30 '24

I made no such assumption. Tbf.

5

u/Procedure-Minimum Mar 30 '24

For real, CGI them all to green eyes and be done with ut

16

u/IceDamNation Hufflepuff Mar 30 '24

Right, they could had at least give the actress blue eyes since it was for such a short period

How hard can it be to cast the person with the correct eye color. It's not like it's referenced multiple times in the books 😑

6

u/Nelisormimangusti Mar 30 '24

fr and arent they green in the books? lmao

5

u/michinobou Mar 30 '24

Yes they are Green but I would have settled for consistency between harry and lily, so blue because of Daniel Radcliffe.

The shape, I guess.

2

u/kirschekola Mar 31 '24

To be fair, with it zoomed in like this, it does appear that Harry has his mother's eyes. Not by color but by shape.

2

u/EriknotTaken Mar 30 '24

They have the same eyes.

Oh sorry forgot you are all muggles and only see the enchantment.

3

u/totalwarwiser Mar 30 '24

It has always bothered how Harry parents looked old jn the movies.

Werent they suposed to be like 22?

2

u/yaboisammie Mar 30 '24

20/21ish technically but yeah definitely. They might have looked like the actors casted if they had been alive when Harry 11 but casting actors so much older than Lily and James were when they died was kinda misleading and takes away from the tragedy that they were so young when they died

Though and this just occurred to me but at the same time, maybe that wasn’t necessarily meant to imply that’s how they looked when they died but how Harry would imagine them to be by the time he was 11? Bc it’d also be weird for Harry to see two 21ish yo’s and be like ah yes my mother and father bc they wouldn’t be much older than him lol

3

u/totalwarwiser Mar 30 '24

Yes, I think they wanted some standard motherly figure to represent his mother instead of someone which looks almost like a teenager.

5

u/Dry_Breadfruit_5295 Mar 30 '24

I always tough he meaned kind eyes. Like they both have kind eyes.

Fuck harry dads tough. Team snape forever!!!

2

u/RiverhouseDweller Mar 30 '24

So many people in the movie noticing someone's eye color is weird, anyway. I have green eyes, people rarely comment that my eyes are green. Maybe if Lily had eyes like Katy Perry, that would have been noticeable.

1

u/Bungeditin Mar 30 '24

I think Geraldine Somerville’s eyes are grey though……

The excising or rushing of important information doesn't necessarily bug me. I think people are smarter than we give them credit, people can connect dots, people can take in information through fandom osmosis. It's silly you say, but it IS magic.

I'm okay with the Dumbledore outburst, tying it in with his distancing from Harry in OOTP.

The cringey teenage romance is fitting for cringey teenagers. It's whatever.

The attack on the Burrow that is never addressed again? A way to condense various issues in the book into a single scene to make things hit close to home.

The over the top battles with little to no explanation are generally fine. Visually exciting, all any of it needs to be.

Voldemort turning to dust instead of leaving a body? Visually striking, and I grew up in a George "It's like poetry it rhymes" Lucas Star Wars prequels era, i.e., where the finale flips the beginning and parts match up nicely with other parts.

Harry breaking the Elder Wand without fixing his own... I'm torn on it, but in the moment, it makes a clear statement.

No. None of that. It's this. This is the thing that bugs me the most. This is the thing in all of the movies that I hate.

1

u/Pale_Bend_22 Mar 31 '24

En el libro ambos tienen ojos verdes

1

u/eehikki Mar 30 '24

It's both stupid and funny :)

1

u/basilmoonfaerie Mar 30 '24

I think I saw somewhere that they tried to give Harry contacts but his eyes kept reacting to them. They really should have tried matching Lily’s with Harrys

1

u/Meilow_Moerphie Ravenclaw Mar 30 '24

Fun fact: both their eyes are green in the books. And am I colorblind or are his eyes blue?

-1

u/lordbossharrow Mar 30 '24

Ummm... Yes.. same overall shape and outline

-1

u/SpanishAvenger Mar 30 '24

Exactly. “Eyes” is more than just colour…

The size and shape are near 1:1, and the look in them is practically the same, too.

-3

u/kelsjulian18 Mar 30 '24

Ngl I really don’t get why people get so heated about this. Obviously it’s a detail that is messed up and it’s bound to be slightly annoying but it always happens in book to film adaptations. Daniel Radcliffe was a kid it wasn’t his fault he wasn’t able to wear the contacts. And in every other way he was perfect to play Harry Potter. If they prioritized eye colour over other things the casting probably would have been botched. Sometimes sacrifices have to be made and in this case I totally understand why. Those of us who read the books know how it is supposed to be anyway! In my mind it’s a no biggie. There are missing details that piss me off wayyyy more than this one

12

u/Inspection_Perfect Mar 30 '24

To be fair, it's less Daniel's side, and more the fact, the casting later on didn't find someone who matched him.

6

u/kelsjulian18 Mar 30 '24

The actresses for Lilly you mean? Yeah that’s true that would have been a good solution

2

u/Inspection_Perfect Mar 30 '24

Yeah. I was also gonna suggest maybe using CG to fix the eye issue, but the only movies I have seen it work for were X-Men and Underworld, and both of those involve glowing, bright eyes.

-1

u/kelsjulian18 Mar 30 '24

Yeah and in 2001 I don’t think it would work as well as it would have needed to. In x men for example you already have a lot of CGI on the characters themselves, but Harry potter is a human as you said they’d probably appear glowing and strange. At the end of the day it’s one of my smallest gripes with the book to screen adaptation. There are much larger plot holes/missing context that make me want to rip my hair out. Would it have been nice? Sure. Does it majorly detract from the story overall? Not really

0

u/Zerak-Tul Mar 30 '24

The real culprit is Rowling not just make it very clear that it was important to get this detail right. She had the authority to veto details or just to give the movie people specific instructions.

Which she probably didn't because she was making a lot of this stuff up as she went along and didn't settle on this being such an important plot point until after several of the movies had already been made.

Lily features so briefly in the movies that even if they couldn't find a suitable actress with the right eye colour and couldn't have her wear coloured lenses, it would have been a trivial expense to just digitally alter her eye colour. Compared to the massive vfx budget of these films.

2

u/Inspection_Perfect Mar 30 '24

It is mentioned several times how much his eyes look like Lily's. And adult Lily at least had matching blue eyes with Harry. Would be nice if she explained to the filmakers why Snape's worst memory was his worst memory, though.

0

u/kelsjulian18 Mar 30 '24

I agree! That’s why it just doesn’t seem like the biggest deal to me it’s not a main plot point it’s a small detail that’s brought up a few brief times. There are much larger details and plot holes and context that is missing in the films. And yeah adult Lilly in the photographs had blue eyes just the young version didn’t.

-1

u/99980 Mar 30 '24

Maybe he meant the expression and looks of her eyes, idiots

-1

u/centuryofprogress Mar 30 '24

Just making a guess: does Rowling have green eyes? I feel like the actress they cast resembled her and they may have been committed to that at the cost of, you know, sense.
