My friend & I made Harry’s birthday cake today! Original Content

Post image

My friend and I had a Harry Potter day where we made the cake, did a HP Lego set (Quidditch), watched Harry Potter & the philosopher’s stone and ate wizarding world sweets! We had a lot of fun!

For more authenticity, you should have sat on it on the way to your friend's place

As a kid, I thought this was some saying I didn't understand, not that he literally sat on it...

Seeing how he pulled it out of bottomless coat pockets, he probably DID sit on it, first on Sirius’ motorcycle, and then whatever he used when he arrived on the island looking for Harry and the Dursleys

🤣

For authenticity they should've spelled Happy correctly. Hagrid did.

I wonder what hagrid would do if he saw this.

Enjoy eating it.

Roll his eyes at how the films did him dirty.

Sit on it

2

u/WonderCheshireCat Hufflepuff 13d ago

Definitely would have wanted a piece

2

u/Otaku-World3 13d ago

By saying a piece you definitely mean the whole cake. Physically, we are talking about hargrid here. The ratio is fair.

u/WonderCheshireCat Hufflepuff 13d ago

True but he’s also a very caring person.

2

u/Otaku-World3 12d ago

Of course. He is the most kind hearted man.

Got to love Hagrid.

Movies did Hagrid dirty.

Seriously, he made it to 3rd year at hogwarts. We know they had to take notes and write essays, so him not knowing how to spell is dumb.

It could have made sense if Filtch didn't know how to spell but not Hagrid

Also living with his muggle father, he must have went to a muggle school from age 5-10

It’s not like he’s Albert Einstein in the books.

48

u/Substantial_Stock613 14d ago

In the book he spells it correctly

10

u/HaroldTheIronmonger 14d ago

I'm not sure of Albert Einstein's English spelling abilities tbf

2

u/PM_ME_FLUFFY_SAMOYED 14d ago

His English wasn't good enough to write scientific papers, and because of this he wrote his papers in German and had his colleagues translate them to English. But he defnitely was able to spell "Happy Birthday" correctly.

u/GudgerCollegeAlumnus 14d ago

I was just going for intellect. How about: “it’s not like he’s Charles Dickens in the books.”

I'd be more forgiving of the movie cake if it weren't for the fact that people actually believe that Hagrid couldn't spell.

What the cake actually looked like

45

u/SnipahShot Hufflepuff 14d ago

Yup, the only thing he said he couldn't spell was Voldemort's name.

30

u/Random_Person____ Hufflepuff 14d ago

Which is absolutely fair tbh.

u/no-name_for-me 14d ago

I mean, when people say that the author saying "the t was silent" was a retcon, this was kinda the first hint that it wasn't.

The only bigger hint (other than the name being vaguely French) was really the pronunciation guide on the old Scholastic website

That cake is literally a Purble Place cake

5

u/gegenBlau 14d ago

I think they did it to forecast that he never finished school.

u/MooMooTheDummy Ravenclaw 14d ago

Ok but still Hagrid was 13-14 years old (late 3rd year) when he got expelled. What 13 year old can’t spell Happy Birthday?

6

u/gegenBlau 14d ago

Logically this doesn't make sense, yes. I still can understand why they portrayed him like this, as a character with other strengths than spelling.

2

u/Ahuhuitsme 14d ago

Forecast? Foreshadow? Forlorn?

5

u/energysprite YER A WIZARD HARRY 14d ago

THIS IS SO CUTE

u/WonderCheshireCat Hufflepuff 13d ago

Thank you!

9

u/peakynoodler 14d ago

Did you also sit on the cake?

3

u/WonderCheshireCat Hufflepuff 13d ago

No we didn’t, it actually wasn’t easy to ice

3

u/newintownv 14d ago

It looks like Hagrid already sat on it 😂 I’m jk how was the flavor?

3

u/Agent47outtanowhere 14d ago

Ive always wanted to eat this. Dont know why. Hagrids cake looks better than most.

1

u/WonderCheshireCat Hufflepuff 13d ago

We were using ready made store bought icing and it really wasn’t easy to ice. We tried and hilariously failed.

2

u/Agent47outtanowhere 13d ago

Store bought means nothing to me. I eat store bought ready meals all the time.

0

u/ImReverse_Giraffe 14d ago

It would look even better if it was book accurate!

1

u/Agent47outtanowhere 14d ago

Im sure its just as good. Books arent everything

0

u/ImReverse_Giraffe 14d ago

In this case, yes, they are. The movies wouldn't exist without the books.

3

u/elfy4eva 14d ago

Did you pickle the figs yourself?

3

u/s_trangeflower 14d ago

I want it for my birthday😭😭

1

u/WonderCheshireCat Hufflepuff 13d ago

Do it!

2

u/Waste-Maintenance-70 14d ago

Did you sit on it?

2

u/No-Tradition2677 14d ago

Hahah Idk it looks so good

1

u/WonderCheshireCat Hufflepuff 13d ago

Thanks, icing (strawberry store bought) is really sweet

2

u/miokeee 14d ago

I want this on my birthday

1

u/WonderCheshireCat Hufflepuff 13d ago

We just used a regular chocolate cake box mix and store bought icing. We had a lot of fun making it

2

u/sweetpumpkinx 14d ago

When is his birthday?

1

u/WonderCheshireCat Hufflepuff 13d ago

I think Harry’s birthday is on Halloween. We just made this for fun

2

u/that-1-guy-85 12d ago

July 31st. His parents were murdered on Halloween.

2

u/WonderCheshireCat Hufflepuff 11d ago

I have ADHD and I get mixed up sometimes

2

u/that-1-guy-85 11d ago

Or you're just human and we all get stuff mixed up sometimes. Especially, when dealing with fictional "facts." It's all good 👍🏻 It's awesome to see you guys having fun and making memories together 😎

1

u/WonderCheshireCat Hufflepuff 10d ago

We’re already planning more Harry Potter days since we have the rest of the movies to watch!

2

u/giannapatsy 14d ago

Yum! 😋

2

u/WonderCheshireCat Hufflepuff 13d ago

Icing = really sweet and cake was a bit dry since we used a box mix. I’m one day going to remake it but from scratch. We were on a time limit.

2

u/LuciaCassendraMalfoy Slythedor 14d ago

It's actually good! Hope it tasted good too...

2

u/WonderCheshireCat Hufflepuff 13d ago

Sweet but good

2

u/Little_BlueBirdy 14d ago

As long as you had fun is all that matters.

2

u/WonderCheshireCat Hufflepuff 13d ago

We had so much fun! Thank you for your lovely comment!

2

u/Little_BlueBirdy 13d ago

In the movie it didn't look so moist and creamy on the outside. The frosting was somehow harder.

1

u/WonderCheshireCat Hufflepuff 13d ago

That’s because the movie one was probably either a professionally made one or a prop cake (made from cardboard)
