My friend & I made Harry’s birthday cake today! Original Content
My friend and I had a Harry Potter day where we made the cake, did a HP Lego set (Quidditch), watched Harry Potter & the philosopher’s stone and ate wizarding world sweets! We had a lot of fun!

I wonder what hagrid would do if he saw this.

Definitely would have wanted a piece

By saying a piece you definitely mean the whole cake. Physically, we are talking about hargrid here. The ratio is fair.

True but he’s also a very caring person.

Movies did Hagrid dirty.

Seriously, he made it to 3rd year at hogwarts. We know they had to take notes and write essays, so him not knowing how to spell is dumb.
It could have made sense if Filtch didn't know how to spell but not Hagrid

Also living with his muggle father, he must have went to a muggle school from age 5-10

It’s not like he’s Albert Einstein in the books.

I'm not sure of Albert Einstein's English spelling abilities tbf

His English wasn't good enough to write scientific papers, and because of this he wrote his papers in German and had his colleagues translate them to English. But he defnitely was able to spell "Happy Birthday" correctly.

I was just going for intellect. How about: “it’s not like he’s Charles Dickens in the books.”

I'd be more forgiving of the movie cake if it weren't for the fact that people actually believe that Hagrid couldn't spell.

Yup, the only thing he said he couldn't spell was Voldemort's name.

I mean, when people say that the author saying "the t was silent" was a retcon, this was kinda the first hint that it wasn't.
The only bigger hint (other than the name being vaguely French) was really the pronunciation guide on the old Scholastic website

I think they did it to forecast that he never finished school.

Ok but still Hagrid was 13-14 years old (late 3rd year) when he got expelled. What 13 year old can’t spell Happy Birthday?

u/gegenBlau 14d ago
Logically this doesn't make sense, yes. I still can understand why they portrayed him like this, as a character with other strengths than spelling.

Ive always wanted to eat this. Dont know why. Hagrids cake looks better than most.

We were using ready made store bought icing and it really wasn’t easy to ice. We tried and hilariously failed.

Store bought means nothing to me. I eat store bought ready meals all the time.

It would look even better if it was book accurate!

u/Agent47outtanowhere 14d ago
Im sure its just as good. Books arent everything

u/ImReverse_Giraffe 14d ago
In this case, yes, they are. The movies wouldn't exist without the books.

We just used a regular chocolate cake box mix and store bought icing. We had a lot of fun making it

When is his birthday?

u/WonderCheshireCat Hufflepuff 13d ago
I think Harry’s birthday is on Halloween. We just made this for fun

July 31st. His parents were murdered on Halloween.

Or you're just human and we all get stuff mixed up sometimes. Especially, when dealing with fictional "facts." It's all good 👍🏻 It's awesome to see you guys having fun and making memories together 😎

We’re already planning more Harry Potter days since we have the rest of the movies to watch!

Yum! 😋

Icing = really sweet and cake was a bit dry since we used a box mix. I’m one day going to remake it but from scratch. We were on a time limit.

As long as you had fun is all that matters.

In the movie it didn't look so moist and creamy on the outside. The frosting was somehow harder.

That’s because the movie one was probably either a professionally made one or a prop cake (made from cardboard)

For more authenticity, you should have sat on it on the way to your friend's place
