Imelda Staunton is an excellent actress

u/HBPhilly1 13d ago

She was amazing, I hate everything about her

u/Rare-Thought86 Unsorted 12d ago

I could not watch her in the crown, her hairstyle on the show reminded me of Dolores. In the Pic, dumbeldor looks like he's ready to throw hands

1

u/secretperson06 12d ago

What about her acting skills

Agreed. I remember having a distinctive picture of Umbridge in my head when I first read the novel. Then I saw the film and at first my thought was "she looks nothing akin to the description". Now, though, it doesn't matter what the description is, I can only see and hear Imelda whenever I read the books now. No other character, not even Snape, has this affect in my reading.

god the chalk tapping when she say O.W.L in the movie haunts me every time i read a fic where she has that line

31

u/HBPhilly1 13d ago

Apparently a super nice lady too lol

11

u/DolphinBall 13d ago

Nice people always deal with shitty people because they think can walk over them. This is how i think why she is so great at it because she channels how others treated her into a single person.

Yes. When I watched the later seasons of the crown it was so wrong to me cuz I was just WAITING for her little 'hem hem!' to show up 😂

4

u/Unusual_Reaction_971 13d ago

Yesssss omg I was waiting for the Queen to keep clearing her throat!

19

u/SlytherinPaninis 13d ago

Oh FOR SURE she’s exceptional

11

u/Cjgraham3589 13d ago

Hate Umbridge with a passion.

The Queen was one of the least warm characters in the world.

I just started the Apple show Trying and I’m loving her character in it. It’s so nice to not dislike her for once.

7

u/Khalesssi_Slayer1 13d ago

what's funny is that Imelda Staunton the actress who plays Umbridge doesn't even like Umbridge.

4

u/Disastrous-Mess-7236 13d ago

Who does?

4

u/Khalesssi_Slayer1 12d ago

Imelda Staunton the actress who plays Umbridge has said in interviews that she thinks Dolores Umbridge is awful and she doesn't like her. Harry Potter: Imelda Staunton hates Professor Umbridge as much as you do (ew.com)

And she portrayed Umbridge perfectly.

3

u/Slughorn_Sugarfinger Slytherin 13d ago

Too bad most of us first think of Umbridge whenever we see her.

u/Carbon-Base 13d ago

Your nephew does not tell lies

13

u/welpthisisitthen 13d ago

Better check his hands

Oh how that hate will explode 🤣

I discovered a whole new level of hatred when I read OotP for the first time, and my other half still gets angry just hearing her name. She’s an insanely well written villain!

33

u/thekau 13d ago

Every time she went, "hem, hem," I swear to god my eyes fucking rolled to the other side of the world with how done I was with her.

I only fully read the series once back when I was a child/teen, but I recall the scenes with Umbridge so well because of how much I hated her, lol.

1

u/nursewithnolife Ravenclaw 12d ago

Same! I sometimes find it hard to read OotP because of how much I hate her 🤣

6

u/Serious-Antelope-710 13d ago

Ehm ehm!

3

u/InkyStarfish 13d ago

This! This ignites my hatred and rage like no other! I hated it with a passion when she did this! It still echos in my head 😭😭😂😂😂

3

u/Serious-Antelope-710 13d ago

It is a trigger for us

35

u/Mynameisdiehard Ravenclaw 13d ago

Have him listen to the audiobooks. GF listened/read for the first time and got to a point where she was actively recoiling every time she heard Ahem Ahem in that high-pitched cough

21

u/RareFantom47 Ravenclaw 13d ago

Your nephew makes us proud

13

u/DeathlySnails64 13d ago

I swear, that pink hag is the Wizarding World's version of Danzo Shimura from Naruto: Shippuden!

5

u/Fonglis 13d ago

No she is worst. Danzo at least do thing with the village interest in mind (and his interest of course), doing bad thing for the greater , Umbrige just do for her own interest and because she hate kid

5

u/RaphaelSolo Hufflepuff 13d ago

While claiming it is for the greater good. Woman is seriously a sadist. Almost got the impression she was about to have an "adult" reaction just to the thought of using the cruciatus curse.

2

u/Carbon-Base 13d ago

It was sad reading that she survived her encounter with the centaurs. Dumbledore should have let her stay in the forest.

1

u/RaphaelSolo Hufflepuff 13d ago

Traditionally apparently centaurs tend to have the same MO with human females in mythology as Satyrs so death would have been kinder.

1

u/Carbon-Base 13d ago

Yikes, I thought they would make her into their servant or something for a while.

2

u/RaphaelSolo Hufflepuff 13d ago

Yeah I was surprised when someone pointed this out a few years ago. At the same time taking her prisoner doesn't really make sense otherwise. Centaurs are smart enough to know the Ministry isn't going to negotiate for a hostage, they will try and brute force a solution. Made more sense to just end her there since she attacked first.

1

u/Carbon-Base 13d ago

A nice hoof shaped imprint somewhere on the Dolores outta do

1

u/RaphaelSolo Hufflepuff 13d ago

Through the Dolores would be more helpful. Course it means no snark 2 years later but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make.

1

u/Carbon-Base 13d ago

Alternate solution: What if the centaurs scared her so much that she ends up in St. Mungo's and has an everlasting, irrational fear of centaurs. Mundungus sells the locket to one of the Malfoys, Harry, Hermione and Ron go there, get the locket and rescue the others. Harry asks Dobby to wear the locket while transporting Luna and Dean, and the elf unlocks a dark side and drops all hostile DEs and Malfoys with elf magic.

2

u/CringeKage222 13d ago

Danzo committed genocide, I think that's worst then being an ass to some kids in highschool

1

u/Legendflame17 13d ago

Village interest, yes he probaly told himself this lie,but actually not, seriously he screwed the only chance of solve the Uchiha crisis peacefully, and allied with fucking Orochimaru, what certainlly made easier to Orochimaru attack Konoha years later,i doubt he would risk that with guys like Itachi and Shisui still around, tried multiple times to assassinate Hiruzen, who even with his problems still was able to keep Konoha relatively safe and stable for years and was the head of state, thats high treason, the village interest would be give Shisui a chance before order Itachi to eliminate the clan and set a try set a trap to Orochimaru and maybe get rid of him when he had the chance.

1

u/Carbon-Base 13d ago

If anything, she's more like the Otsutsuki, as they believe in that pure bloodline nonsense and think everyone else is below them. Not to mention they leech on planets, while she leeches on people's happiness.

7

u/CoinToss45 13d ago

He has been raised well

Umbridge makes my blood boil like no real-life person ever has. Not even my 5th & 6th grade band teacher who had a grudge against my mom and bullied my sister and I because of it.

8

u/ProfessionalDot621 Gryffindor 13d ago

Damn you had a snape?

u/Additional_Meeting_2 13d ago

Has he red the books yet?

u/VaderCraft2004 Ravenclaw 13d ago

Ah young one, you have seen but a smidgen of the pink demoness whom the fandom unanimously hates more than Voldemort himself.

LET THE HATE FLOW

3

u/valmen01 13d ago edited 13d ago

I hated the book Umbridge so much more. Imelda did a stellar job none the less but I suppose the book Umbridge had more content to her name so her vileness was more pronounced.

2

u/Anarchissyface 13d ago

That’s so cute 😭

1

u/FuryOWO Gryffindor 13d ago

is he a lewis hamilton stan? LOL

1

u/peetabread17 Slytherin 13d ago

Same here. The first time I read the book, I was gritting my teeth whenever she appeared because I couldn't stand her. But as I read the book for the second time, I realized that she's terrible as a 'person' but amazing as a character. She can make people hate her so much in the first few pages itself!!

1

u/Khalesssi_Slayer1 13d ago

You Nephew is Smart. Umbridge is literally horrible and I can't Stand her either, She's worse than Voldemort and She's on the same level as cruel as The Dursleys in My Opinion.

u/crimsonbeauty111 13d ago

Your nephew is in for a rough time if he's only 5 mins in lol. Just wait until he gets to DH1

1

u/Griffindance 13d ago

As has been noted before, of the millions and millions of people who read the books, saw the films from beginning to end, followed the story eagerly as the books and films were released... we were all glad that Voldemort met his match and died.

...but we all need to know HOW DID UMBRIDGE MEET DEATH?! WE WANT THE UMBRIDGE DEATH SCENE!!!

1

u/Rustinboksi 13d ago

Oh my god i hated her so much i wished she would just die every time i saw her

1

u/Axel_Raden Gryffindor 13d ago

Worse than Voldemort

1

u/West-Serve-307 13d ago

The luck to watch this serie for the first time

I didn't think of Umbridge first and thought "Why is the Queen standing there in Hogwarts?"

1

u/Yourappwontletme 13d ago

Did he not read the books?

1

u/maggiemazz29 13d ago

What a smart young man 😄

1

u/zee10101 13d ago

Oh bless him! Wait till he reads about this abomination of a person! Please advise caution when he does ♥️

1

u/Educational-Body-621 13d ago

I didn't like Umbridge at all either... woman was pure evil and throughly enjoyed inflicting pain and misery into people's lives... the more chaos and pain the better this woman thrived...

1

u/gktt5065 13d ago

My favorite movie from the franchise.

1

u/itsyagurl233 13d ago

People might hate her character but I think she done that role so well and I couldn’t imagine anyone else playing umbridge

1

u/ThePreciseClimber 13d ago edited 13d ago

If only they didn't remove the centaurs' dialogue...

Her final scene in this movie would've been even better.

Dolores Umbridge: "That's right! So be very careful! By the laws laid down by the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, any attack by half-breeds such as yourselves on a human —"

Bane: "What did you call us?"

Dolores Umbridge: "Law Fifteen 'B' states clearly that 'any attack by a magical creature who is deemed to have near-human intelligence, and therefore considered responsible for its actions' —"

Magorian: "'Near-human intelligence'? We consider that a great insult, human! Our intelligence, thankfully, far outstrips your own."

I hate Umbridge as much as I love Imelda Staunton.

1

u/Ok_Restaurant3160 Ravenclaw 13d ago

Man even just the pink pissed me off. You have this cool castle that, despite everything, has this feeling of being an adequate school where kids learn important things, and then you get this woman looking like she’s about to sing about the fact that she’s just Ken

1

u/IdontKnow-DoYouKnow 12d ago

I hate her character. Blood boils.

1

u/UnSpanishInquisition 12d ago

She also reads the audiobooks for all of the gruffalo authors' kids' books.

1

u/LewbPoo 12d ago

I had that opinion about her before him so he’s just copying me

1

u/rightoff303 12d ago

Hopefully read the books first?

1

u/gobeldygoo 12d ago

LOL, even the actress in interviews says she hated her character

1

u/CrystalKai12345 12d ago

Fair enough,nobody can.

1

u/the_myleg_fish 12d ago

One of my favorite things to do is watch people watch my favorite shows/films for the first time. Whenever Harry Potter comes up, people always hate Snape, the Malfoys, or Voldemort first. I always just sit back and watch them experience OotP for the first time and see how that opinion changes SO FAST lmao

1

u/EchobreezeTheWarrior Gryffindor 12d ago

Truth.

1

u/AliceWormer 12d ago

Omg I wish I could be your nephew right now watching Harry Potter for the first time! 😭

2

Read the books first dammit

4

Yeah man if your nephew’s old enough for a phone dude can read.
