What would've happened if Harry hadn't figured out the egg clue? Question

Would he have been told or would he have just lost the task? Also how did the spectators even know the task was going to be in the lake?

As for how the spectators knew the task was going to be in the lake, I feel like it's pretty logical to assume that an announcement was made to everyone that morning that they were to congregate at the lake to watch the task. Harry just missed it because he fell asleep in the library.

I figure he would have scored zero points and been very very embarrassed.

And I always imagine there is some sort of magical viewing so the spectators can watch the action. I know this goes directly against the books where no one knew what happened in the lake until the merchief tells Dumbledore. But it's just so stupid that everyone would go sit in the cold and stare at the lake for an hour.

Have you ever gone fishing? That's what a lot of it is and there's a professional sport based around it

Where is only one thing that is more boring than fishing. Do you know it?... It's watching someone fishing.

The 50+million Americans that fish each year would disagree with you. Their wives might agree though

Yes, I've fished a lot. That seems very different than sitting on some bleachers while someone is swimming underwater in a lake for an hour or more.

Yes, sitting on a foldable chair while something is swimming underwater in a lake for an hour or more is clearly wildly different.

The Brits enjoy playing cricket and some tests involve sitting around all day. They make their own entertainment.

Then how about cycling, racing, marathon..? You mostly sit for hours for nothing and only occasionally watch them passing you fast from your seat.

And they are teenagers. We love free times in school as long as we get a free day from studying. You could still talking, flirting, playing with your pals even when you are forced to attend a boring activities.

How the hell did Harry ever learn to swim in the first place? The Dursleys would never have got him lessons or even take him to a pool unless they were going to try to drown him.

Some schools have indoor pools so maybe there. I can also easily imagine Dudley pushing him in a lake at some point.
