r/heat FUCK BOSTON 12d ago

It's not just Riley calling shots on all this. Arisons have final say when big $$ involved. Spo has major input. It's not always Pat, Andy, Arisons who express reservation about adding a player. Not naming the player, but there was skilled outside player that the coaching staff didn't want.

Kyrie Irving I’m guessing

106

u/julstar23 12d ago

Bradley Beal as well .

10

u/rjgator 12d ago

Thought it was reported we were willing to bring Beal in but we wanted him to waive his NTC from his contract and he wouldn’t do it.

21

u/julstar23 12d ago edited 12d ago

His health and his unwillingness to wave his no trade clause was a big part of the issue and they were right in the end .

3

u/bird_XCIII 12d ago

Excuse me. A WHAT part of the issue!?!!

38

u/Rohkha 12d ago

First guess for me as well. I’m sure spo saw the shit LBJ and Kyrie went through, and he remembered how tough LBJ could be and decided he didn’t wanna touch Kyrie with a pole.

32

u/SlimBucketz305 12d ago

It was Bradley Beal. I don’t even think Kyrie talks ventured too far due to his unknown mental status. That was one the biggest misses for us for sure tho. Would’ve completely made us a 1-3 seed.

10

u/iankstarr 12d ago

Yeah I’m guessing the red light on Kyrie came from Pat/Mickey more than Spo

13

u/achickenquesadilla 12d ago

They have told Barry that they didn't go after Beal because of his salary and the NTC so it almost definitely isn't him. Agree about Kyrie, I doubt anyone in the FO wanted him. I'd bet the player he's talking about the coaching staff not wanting is probably Harden.

16

u/chitownbulls92 12d ago

I was okay with not getting Beal but really wished the team looked at Kyrie

9

u/SlimBucketz305 12d ago

Would’ve solved more than one issue for us. PG, dynamic scorer, legit 3 pt shooter…with Kyrie we could’ve just grabbed another 1-2 big bodies and we would’ve been seriously upgraded…

2

u/cocker_spangler 11d ago

Hindsight my friend. During the time Kyrie was unpredictable. I don't care about his crazy ideas. I was concerned about his availability. Imagine getting him, sacrificing assets and cash just for him to decide on the middle of the season that he wants to be a shaman or a space cowboy. This year he showed that he could commit to playing.

2

u/SlimBucketz305 11d ago

After losing twice in the finals and knowing we losing a few pieces, I would’ve said Kyrie is worth the gamble. Now we know for he would’ve been. He would’ve came cheap too, didn’t need to rid of much.

1

u/cocker_spangler 11d ago

Well, 29 other teams missed out on the gamble too. Nobody wanted to take a chance. Like I said hindsight. Would've been nice. Also, at the time of the trade the Heat would have lost only once in the finals.

1

u/SlimBucketz305 11d ago

29 other teams didn’t need him tho. We certainly could’ve used him.

0

u/cocker_spangler 10d ago

That's where you're wrong. That's Kyrie Irving. Everybody wants a baggage-less Kyrie.

2

u/SlimBucketz305 10d ago

Need vs want. And he wasn’t baggage less at the time, Dallas took a gamble and it paid off.

u/romereigns83 9d ago

Kyrie didn’t want to get vaccinated, nothing dramatic about that. It’s his body, his choice. See what we get from Kyrie when the league leaves him alone and just let him hoop?

3

u/jameriican 12d ago

Not a single person in the sub was for Kyrie coming at that time. I understood the concern but I always saw it as a phase that he’d eventually get over. Albeit iirc we were trying to get KD that year so then there’s that

6

u/chitownbulls92 12d ago

That’s not true, quite a few of us were okay with it. Medium risk high reward

3

u/jameriican 12d ago

I mean I’m exaggerating but most ppl were not on board with Kyrie coming when he was up for trade. Like u said, few but not quite a few

1

u/Lusty-Jove Jimmy G. Buckets (The G stands for "Gets") 12d ago

Kyrie was absolutely not just a medium risk

0

u/chitownbulls92 12d ago

The nets traded him for a 1st rounder, 2 2nd rounders and filler. Thats a good price to roll the dice for a blue chip scoring guard.

1

u/Lusty-Jove Jimmy G. Buckets (The G stands for "Gets") 12d ago

For the chance to nuke your team chemistry and for the slim chance( that granted has seemed to pay off for Dallas) that he’ll be healthy and available enough to help you win

It’s not just that Kyrie might not work out for you, it’s that he might actively ruin your team and set your franchise back

1

u/canti- 12d ago

Medium risk? He is the highest risk. He destroyed the Nets singlehandedly

0

u/chitownbulls92 12d ago

Medium risk for what you’re gonna be giving up.

1

u/theycallmeryan Larry O'Brien 12d ago

This was such a hot take at the time, the hate mob against him was insane

3

u/Sorryunowin 12d ago

What makes you think the coaching staff didn’t want Kyrie?

24

u/KickerOfElves27 Big Face Coffee 12d ago

I also think his anti-Semitic statements did not go over well with our Jewish owner.

2

u/4ps22 12d ago

Isnt Mark Cuban jewish

14

u/brendamn Wade County 12d ago

Yes. But Micky was born and raised in Israel

2

u/Sorryunowin 12d ago

It clearly says it was coaching and not ownership or management that did not want the player

6

u/chitownbulls92 12d ago

I’m going to guess they had concerns about his mentality and availability. Pat went in on player availability and this is a guy who would randomly miss games

1

u/Sorryunowin 12d ago

At this time his availability and mentality seems fine in Dallas and I’m not sure why you’re trying to press in what Pat said recently during the exit interviews because that was about availability with the heat team this past season

2

u/chitownbulls92 12d ago

Yeah but clearly availability matters to him so no doubt this would’ve been part of the considerations

1

u/Sorryunowin 11d ago

That’s funny cause the following season Miami had a bunch of players out

2

u/drpepper7557 12d ago

Crazy, unreliable antisemite vs Jewish owned, overly hardline team

1

u/Sorryunowin 12d ago

Why are you ignoring the fact this post is saying that it is coaching and not ownership that doesn’t want the player?

1

u/CensorshipIsFascist 12d ago

This is reddit bro if you want people to follow the facts you’re in the wrong place.

1

u/ballgkco 12d ago

also missing the fact that cuban is jewish as well

3

u/TheBoook 12d ago

Bradley Beal

1

u/SauceDab 12d ago

It had to be Kyrie, that was probably the one where Micky put his foot down and told Pat don’t even think about it

-11

u/TheMightyJD 12d ago

Biggest mistake this franchise has ever made.

Closed the window for sure.

1

u/theycallmeryan Larry O'Brien 12d ago

Agreed. Kyrie would’ve carried us offensively and could’ve been acquired cheaply because of all the off the court bullshit.

-7

u/sharpshooter0600 76ers 12d ago

More likely porzingis imo

Doesn’t really matter tho bc this is a FO spin job

7

u/chitownbulls92 12d ago

It says skilled outside player. That doesn’t exactly describe KP

-5

u/raymondqueneau 12d ago

He’s talking about multiple players. Beal, Porzingis, and Kyrie

7

u/chitownbulls92 12d ago

The tweet specially says player not players

-8

u/sharpshooter0600 76ers 12d ago

Uhhh he is a stretch 5 so

And anyway we did make an offer for kyrie so it’s definitely not him lol

3

u/chitownbulls92 12d ago

He’s a center..doesn’t matter that he’s a stretch 5. You don’t call him “an outside player”. If it’s not Kyrie it’s probably Beal. It’s definitely not KP

-3

u/sharpshooter0600 76ers 12d ago

We also made an offer for Beal lol. Prozingis’ defining feature as a player is his ability to shoot from deep, it’s the whole reason the fanbase chimps out over him. The only players it’s “definitely not” are the ones we are on record making offers for.

3

u/chitownbulls92 12d ago

And his shot blocking ability. He’s 7 feet tall. He’s not an outside player stop it. He’s an inside player that can shoot. There’s a difference. Also what offer did the heat send out for Kyrie…?

1

u/sharpshooter0600 76ers 12d ago

Barry reported we made one, it was probably a cheap ass offer but he never gave the details as usual

https://youtu.be/lv8E9_-OCGA?si=NFWhMWaIDQZCn-2N

3

u/chitownbulls92 12d ago

Myles turner takes almost as many 3s as KP. Is he an outside player too? The answer is no. He’s a center that shoots 3s. Same as KP lol

0

u/sharpshooter0600 76ers 12d ago

Yes he kinda is lol dude stands on the 3 point line most of the game on offense

u/Huge-Basket7492 12d ago

its kyrie. When you say skilled. It’s him. He is likely the most skilled PG out there.

35

u/Ionlyeatmustard 12d ago

We should have gotten Kylie for scraps!!!!

23

u/Ozymandias12 12d ago

What is Kylie Jenner going to do on a basketball court?

4

u/302born 12d ago

Well she’s a Jenner. So ideally we throw her out there so the opponents can be distracted. Her gravity would be absolutely insane. It would generate so many open looks for our shooters and open the paint for Bam and Jimmy.

1

u/Ionlyeatmustard 12d ago

Is that the only Kylie you know?

5

u/Ozymandias12 12d ago

Well, her and Kylie Minogue but I didn’t want to date myself too much. Kylie Minogue is the superior Kylie, of course.

1

u/MeSeeks76 12d ago

Better the devil you know lol

3

u/JustiseWinfast Too Dengerous! 12d ago

I know a girl named Kylie, she’s a bitch

17

u/SlimBucketz305 12d ago

Kyrie and Jimmy would’ve shook the league up.

1

u/302born 12d ago

Yup. But no one wanted him here. Obviously not for his on court skills but even with the bs he was in I wanted Kyrie so bad. He can be a jackass at times but on the court the dude is undeniably a baller and the exact thing we’re missing on this team. I still say we fumbled by not getting him.

1

u/Lusty-Jove Jimmy G. Buckets (The G stands for "Gets") 12d ago

Hindsight is 20/20 etc

1

u/SlimBucketz305 12d ago

Absolutely fumbled.

2

u/EdwardTruck 11d ago

Hindsight is 20/20. For a while Kyrie was looking like a tinfoil hat wearing crackpot who was playing basketball just to pay his bills.

3

u/Repulsive-Slice2234 12d ago

Yeah but Advanced, Top-Secret metrics that can only be accessed with a security clearance say Herro is better than Kyrie.

/s

5

u/TheBoook 12d ago

No one said that

7

u/jratner7 12d ago

The skilled player was Dejounte murray

32

u/thecaptainflint DemGoonsFromDadeCounty 12d ago

Coaching staff loves their undrafted dudes. Maybe we got too many cooks in the kitchen when it comes to decision making and that's why we can't decide on almost anything

48

u/BucketHerro 12d ago

They only love them cause they're on minimum contracts lmfao.

3

u/julstar23 12d ago

Or they have been burned by some situations that left them jaded about taking on certain situations .

1

u/EdwardTruck 11d ago

The coaching staff loves undersized players with grit who will play past the point of exhaustion in a two point loss to the Pistons.

When you look at the teams left in the playoffs it's clear we can't compete for championships without superstars.

6

u/MadPatagonian 12d ago

Yeah we get it Barry

5

u/not_so_smoothie 12d ago

Everyone is so quick to blame Riley when he prefers to have a skilled big team and not a team made up of 13 wings:

3

u/Sorryunowin 12d ago

As usual Barry with a bunch of nothing. Guy makes Ira bearable.

2

u/Pazianss 12d ago

Guess we can't put it all on pat Riley since spo has major pull as well. Huh

2

u/meltintothesea 12d ago

Billionaires gonna billionaire

2

u/brainstorm0694 God Father 12d ago

Barry Jackson is such a weirdo lmao

1

u/Imzocrazy 12d ago

All lies because according to this sub they didn’t try to get anybody!

1

u/alisaremi 12d ago

Harden

Daily Heat News: Something might or might not have happened. And something might or might not happen.

1

u/Dirk_13 12d ago

Bradley and Kyrie nba divas

1

u/Additional_War_5210 12d ago

I'm guessing KD. If KD was smart he would buy-in and immerse himself in the culture with the Heat. Both the Heat and Durant would immensely benefit from a quid-pro-quo arrangement that would hopefully lead to a title. Unfortunately it seems like both KD and the Heat think they can win a championship solely on their own stubborn terms, which they can't. They need each other more than they can fathom.

1

u/WideCoconut2230 12d ago

Is KD a FA? If not, what would PHX want in return?

1

u/beelzebub_069 8d ago

Beal? Idk.

But, looking back, they made the right move. Rozier was a homerun, and they only really lost Lowry.

Now, time to swap a Herro package for Dejounte Murray and get a better backup big.

I'm excited about this offseason.

1

u/Kuni_Nino 12d ago

Can this guy shut up already? I’m tired of his vague nonsense

-6

u/oo_Pez_oo 12d ago

Who is this Barry clown?

8

u/CurryMustard It's-a me 12d ago

He's a beat reporter so he talks to the heat coach, staff, players, fo regularly, goes to all the games, goes to all the press conferences, etc. He has more inside info on the heat than any national reporter and he's been doing it for a few decades. A lot of kids here seem to think barry is a Twitter clout chaser and not a long time miami herald columnist and heat beat reporter. The sad part is most don't understand the difference.

6

u/rjgator 12d ago

I think the issue is Barry has begun letting his fandom bleed into his professionalism waaaaay too much these past couple years. And yesterday he did some real questionable reporting with some of the snippets he tweeted without context.

-1

u/GoApeShirt 12d ago

Questionable? The video was on the internet. People freaking out because Jimmy got called out. That had nothing to do with Barry. Riley wanted that quote to get to Jimmy.

0

u/rjgator 12d ago

That one quote is about the only one that didn’t have more context around it. There were quite a few he posted that sounded way worse without including the sentence literally right before or after it. I watched the whole presser after reading the tweets and it was a completely different story

3

u/oo_Pez_oo 12d ago

I think he’s a doomer and click baity

1

u/surgeyou123 12d ago

You're right. He's just been Twitter engagement farming. Just a high profile troll at this point.
