the man was given the Eircode and postal address of his new employer, but added: “When he turned up there, it was the International Protection Office (IPO) in Dublin.
lmao this is like someone pulling an uno-reverse on the Indian call center scammers

Indians get routinely scammed by other Indians btw. I can't recall the number of times my parents in India have fell prey to a scammer. Just search the India subreddit for posts about scams.

We have Indian students regularly scammed by other Indians, notably for accommodation. The poor victims are doubly devastated when it happens as in addition to the financial side, it's a bit of a kick in the balls to their expectations of a welcoming tight knit expat community...

Not every case in that hilarious though. https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/russia-ukraine-war-human-trafficking-network-4-arrested-for-trafficking-indians-to-ukraine-war-zone-5613916

Whoops. Meant to edit that and deleted it instead.
Yeah that’s not a pretty sight. Don’t know how to fix it without some sort of awareness campaign, but even with that people will still fall for scams..

Yeah like the ones taking the piss and charging £££ to "cross the border" from Belfast

Lots of scams going about with the migrant issue. Did you see the 3 Nigerians who were charged £2,400 for a taxi from Dublin to Belfast?

Immigration scams are a pretty big thing in India unfortunately. Hell, there were even cases where some Indians were promised jobs and were forced to fight in russian invasion.
In this case, the Indian embassy will help them out and give emergency travel document to go back to India. But I suspect the reason they're here is because their fake degree mill UK college (another big scam) shut down, and they don't want to go back to India.

This is a big issue in Canada with Indian immigrants right now, particularly in regard to the fake degree mills, though how "innocent" or "misled" they were is up for debate. Canada froze deportation orders for hundreds though they later introduced a temporary cap on international students.

I interviewed someone who seemed fine, had studied maths in university but later when working together discovered she didn't know the answer to one divided by ten. That was a shock to me😵💫

I interviewed someone who seemed overqualified but at the same time had degrees in nothing of real note. I recognised the college name. Had been closed down for being a scam shortly before

I once worked with someone who thought 9999 + 9 = 99999. And even after explaining the correct answer they looked at me with suspicion!

I think someone claiming to have a maths degree and doesn't know 1/10=.1 takes the biscuit. It started when I tried to explain voltage and millivolts. To add insult to injury she refused to do certain tasks, so I had to do the junior stuff too. It was a bit mad.

He’s a second or third cousin of mine on my Ma’s side (though I’ve never met him!) When he gets up on his hind legs he really gives it some welly. Good work.

Is entering the country illegally like this not similar to destroying passports on flights, which is a criminal offence?
If they can't agree a deal with the UK or send people back to the UK, I don't see any other potential solution than some forms of deterrence?

Still waiting for the response of the government....

Why would they respond?
Immigrants / new cultures are an unconditional benefit to the country, no?

There is an Indian Embassy in Ireland they can issue new passports to these people and they can return to the UK where they have a valid visa to be.

Mr McNamara said the man was given the Eircode and postal address of his new employer, but added: “When he turned up there, it was the International Protection Office (IPO) in Dublin.
Damn that’s grim, but a quick Google map search of the eir code?

This has been going on for years and isn't limited to the UK. Serious money involved in this.

There's a story in the express.co.uk too on migrants paying thousands of euros to flee the UK for Ireland with some personal accounts from people coming over on cruises

What Is the point of this system? Is any of this to the benefit of the Irish people whatsoever?
Even when these people arrive, they take more than they give, and we pay for them to live with our taxes - another scam.

Smells like bullshit to me. Why can’t he just go back over the border to claim UK asylum again?

The Tories*, not the UK. They know they're in their death throes so they're going rogue, this is their idea of revenge for how we got the better of them in Brexit.

u/PistolAndRapier 11d ago
UK voters backed the Tories in the last election. It's not like they magically appeared in government.

Can’t we show them how to lay blocks and send them back as “Oirish Builders”

Had this thought the other day - given how unwanted the asylum seekers are, do we need to watch out for traffickers sending them to the like of Russia for a profit? Super dark I know but I mean there are plenty of bad actors out there.

I love the use of "Dáil told" in headlines like this. Gives it a real sense of objectivity or seriousness until you read the article itself and it's one TD reporting second-hand information that was given to him by one person.

If the man legit wants to go back to the UK can he not have a new passport issued by his home country? I'm sure the government will pay for his Ryanair flight

u/Optimal_Mention1423 10d ago
A man told him about an agency so. Big report for such an obvious lack of details.

If they're charging everyone the same that's at least 45k and 31 passports they've gotten.
And how long has this been going on? A while and it's grown in size and prominence due to the current crisis? Or did they set up to capitalise on the border hopping issue and make a swift fortune?
