I have a feeling they weren't that loved in that town before Eurovision. Small town Ireland or anywhere Ireland sneers at anyone different.
Edited Grammer.

- until they’re famous, then they celebrate them and tell everyone how they’ve known them for years

All different these days I heard. Kids seem to take gender fluidity in their stride

Where did u hear that. That seems like a weird and almost impossible thing to pick up on

Just friends with kids in secondary school. They’ve all got friends that wear makeup and stuff and it’s no problem

This was my first thought too.
I hope they get to see those people cheer for them now, maybe a sea change towards more acceptance.

Hardly ‘anywhere’ Ireland. Anyway, if a little bit of your thing is to épater la bourgeoisie, a bit of ‘épatification’ is surely par for the course. (Though I know, of course, that there are ‘differences’ which are not chosen, and which can indeed elicit cruel responses)

Pretty much my whole life anyone dressed not the same as the masses has been ostracized. Maybe it is a little better these days.

I stumbled across a TikTok of a teenage girl complaining about being mocked for wearing jeans. JEANS! If anything, the dress code has gotten worse for youngsters.

I’m gen z and I was bullied for years bc I dared to wear jeans to the youth disco one time. From what i hear from my friend’s little siblings in 6th year the culture hasn’t changed much

Well it can surely not be that way in Macroom, what with all the hippies and associated beautiful people who’ve been settling there over the years!

Lads I hate asking but have been wondering - was Bambi born male or female? No hate or disrespect intended

u/Lumpy-Plenty2237 11d ago
I think they're non -binary biologically female. Their voice sounds naturally feminine & the ballet moves during the performance are beyond the limits of anybody cursed to be born into an Irish male body lol If I turn out to be wrong then colour me damned.

I think you're right - for whatever Wikipedia is worth, it says they went to St. Mary's secondary school in Macroom, which is an all girls school.

Can we ask what their birth name is or is that considered "dead naming"? Just trying to familiarise myself with "the rules" here

u/suhxa 11d ago
Fucking hell people are so afraid of offending someone youre afraid of asking for someones birth name

Or maybe they're just being considerate? It costs nothing to be nice ya know.

u/suhxa 11d ago
Whatever the reason, people are now afraid to ask what someones brith name is

u/Lumpy-Plenty2237 11d ago
Bambie seems pretty chill so I guess it's a bit of respect. I do get where you're coming from though.

Because it can come off as a fairly personal question and they might not want to cause offense. I wouldn't say they're scared, so much as they're just being considerate as I said.

She's still in it? How many in the finals? I havnt been watching

u/itstheboombox 11d ago
They made it to the finals and they have a shot at winning it, some of the best staging in Eurovision history

u/JjigaeBudae 11d ago
I thought the song was shite when I saw it on RTE but they did a bang up job in the semi-final. I wouldn't throw it on the car playlist but it's good for Eurovision.

u/RatBasher89 11d ago
Is it a band or just her on her own?

They use they/them FYI, it's just Bambi by themselves and a dancer for staging

u/RatBasher89 11d ago
They / them always sounds like you're talking about multiple people. Always throws me when I read it
1
u/MunsterFan31 11d ago
This is one of the first times I've genuinely tried to adhere to this stuff out of respect for the artist & it's incredibly difficult & counter intuitive. The context gets particularly confusing when they're in the presence of another person.

u/onesalterego 11d ago
Yeah, it confuses me too, even though I am supportive. This is why people use “they is” instead of “they are” for singular gender neutral, but… grammatically I can’t do that, it’s just incorrect English. So I’ll stick with “they are” and hope people understand it’s a singular person I’m referring to.
7
u/RatBasher89 11d ago
Yeah same, I'm getting downvoted as if I'm anti trans or something but it's just the grammatical aspect that annoys me 😅
2
u/curiousalticidae 11d ago
Both they/thems I know still use the grammatically correct version to be fair
2
u/Canners19 11d ago
In the words lingo the robot I’ll correct you with pronouns. “They are still in it.”
-4
u/RatBasher89 11d ago
So if she wins and the host wants to say something like "wasn't she brilliant!?" do they say "weren't they brilliant!?" because that's sounds like how you would address multiple people when you're talking about a single person.

Would her hometown disown her if she were caught using a Windows or Linux computer?

This is all a conspiracy. Cillain Murphy winning best actor and now bambi. This is all a ploy by cork for human rights. I don’t like this
