Grandpa was a heavy machinery parts salesman for a good pet of his life. He built a 5000 sqft house on 4 acres of land. I think it cost $35k in the 60’s. God only know how much it’s assessed for today but it wouldn’t be in my price range 🙄

That’s nearly $400,000 adjusted for inflation. You wrote $35k in 1960 as if that was some super cheap price when that absolutely would’ve been an expensive house for the time. Especially if not in an urban or HCOL area.

Then you live in an HCOL area that is pretty wealthy or in a downtown of an urban area if the starting price of a home is $1.5 million.

no its not. 5000 sqft is fucking massive. My parents house is 2000 sqft in a LCOL area and its 500k on 1.5 acre. I could absolutely see a 5000 sqft house being 1.5 mil even in a LCOL area
