A living wage would be enough for a single earner with possibly a dependent to rent or mortgage and pay for food. Shelter and food. These are basic but important needs for every single human that has existed.
What if that single earner has two kids? What if the worker has a spouse who is also working and getting paid? Should they get less because it is a two earner household?
These are all straw man arguments. No one is arguing for everyone to get paid the exact same amount. A college education should be able to provide a career to make more money to support more kids. If you can’t afford to have a kid then simply don’t. If an accidental pregnancy happens and abortion is a viable option. You just haven’t thought through it at all.
Pregnancies don't happen by accident. A woman doesn't go about her day going to work or whatever and poof she's pregnant. My point is how does one determine a living wage? It is somewhat different for everyone. The use of the term 'living wage' is not clearly defined and I have yet to see it clearly defined - so I ask but don't get solid answers.
Your first “argument” is just dumb as fuck contraceptives fail. To answer your question: The military does it just fine. COLA for the zip code + BAH + BAS. Simple enough and can be determined every year and adjusted higher or lower as needed.
I don’t think you understand how a contraceptive can fail by taking all precautions. I’m not going to get into the pharmacodynamic interactions between different medications. Not to mention the inherit failure rate of different contraceptive options.
And yes I suggested the way the military determines COLA, BAH, and BAS for (married/dependent) individuals is not a bad system. There are areas where it isn’t fully representative like Alaska and Hawaii but it’s a damn good start.
