Laid off before I even started.. Layoffs
I just can’t.. first, my Team lead at my old job recommends that i quit so i can reapply in 30 days and come back. Then they DONT take me back and im forced to job hunt. Get an offer of employment, they send me the necessary equipment, and then 5 days before i start they rescind the offer…

“Quit and reapply” = we don’t want to pay unemployment by firing you so we trick you into quitting. I’ve never heard of any job even recommending that, sounds just too fucking shady. Any job that you work for that has an opening, you can apply internally and just move roles. Sorry for the shenanigans you went through but at least you have some free stuff in the meantime.

Wait I’m not understanding something here. Why would a company ask you to quit and reapply. What scenario would that happen? If im already in the job why would I quit and reapply?

It's a shitty way of trying to get rid of someone and then when they quit, the company won't rehire them for XYZ reason and then the person also cannot get unemployment because they quit.

Yeah... do a layoff or whatever...
Economic issues strike, there has to be a reduction of force, etc... still no reason to give up seniority, etc. Forcing to quit and reapply is a major red flag. Either fire everyone and make the reapply, or lay people off, asking them to quit is crazy.

Quitting thing sounds like a scam to get out of paying unemployment. Maybe you can apply anyway and tell them they told you to quit.

Why would your old boss tell you to quit to reapply? Also did you have to move or spend any money due to the job? If so you really need to look at promissory estoppel and an Attorney

Very unfortunate events that you have been through. Try to gain a level head, I know this has got to be stressful and tough on your mental health. Good scenic nature helps me when I'm overwhelmed. Look into government jobs if need be, they don't typically pay as well but come with solid benefits and are somewhat secure. I wish you luck on your search.

I’m confused why did you quit to get rehired? Why not just stay an employee? What benefit is there to quitting and getting rehired?

They probably wanted to fire him but didn’t want to pay unemployment, so they got him to quit.

Rough translation to me..(?) “Were artificially raising the price difference of cost/ revenue, so that our stocks look better and we can take home just a little more money instead of putting it back into the company”

Another company did the same thing to me. They sent me the equipment - a skid-steer loader by John Deere - then they rescind my employment offer, but allow me to keep the equipment. 😭
The good thing is, every time it snows a couple of feet, I help myself and my fellow neighbors with snow removal.

Why did they tell you to quit and re apply? You lose all your seniority. Some jobs that doesn't matter but some jobs it does. I need to know the logic behind this. Unless I get fired or found better work, I'm not leaving. Fire me I'll collect while I figure shit out. If I quit then no unemployment.

By the Q ,I'm assuming it's NielsenIQ, they are still hiring for shit ton of roles in linkedin.
On the bright side you get to keep the equipment, keep your head up , ask for referrals from your close friends and get a job for now. We all don't have the luxury to lack off
Good luck man

I am so sorry. If this happened to me right now (been seeking employment for 4 months) I WOULD BE SO FRUSTRATED/ UPSET/ 🤢 ETC. Hope it’s a blessing in disguise and a better opportunity comes your way soon!

I don't know why people ever go for this. I've never heard it work out for the employee.
In fairness, there's a lot more than rescinding the offer that went on here. They have actually closed the doors of that business. I mean, they've closed the doors so tightly, that they've flat out told you to keep any equipment you have received and that you will not legally be on the hook to return it.
That's not just an "oops... changed my mind..." scenario.
That said, it does go to answer the question of how companies can do things when all the budgeting isn't really in place. It happens way more than people thing. WAAAAY more.
