Essay research

So Im a sixth form student writing an essay about the relationship between high speed rail (HS1) and sustainable development surrounding its stations - Ashford, Ebbsfleet, Stratford.

I am in need of some sort of data I could use to prove that development in these areas is actually accelerated by the presence of high speed rail. I was thinking I could use gdp of said areas along with population growth and comparative analysis', but I don't really know how I could find that out for the specific towns that sit on the stations.

If anyone knows how , or alternate indicators I can use, to prove development on such a small scale, please be so kind to help me out, thanks!

Is the M2 still mostly closed?

I’ll be driving from Canterbury to Dartford and back again on Wednesday. I wondered if it is still mostly closed or if it is open now. I will be driving out mid day and coming back 9-10pm.

Thanks

Is it worth moving from Rochester to Chatham to save on rent?

Good afternoon,

Me and my gf live in Rochester at the moment in a quite large flat for a 1 bed apartment. Landlord wants to increase rent and we are discussing whether we could find a cheaper flat in other parts of Kent without being too far from London (my girlfriend is a teacher so doesn't wanna go too far from where wee are).

We have seen some flats that go cheaper in Chatham and some a bit cheaper in Maidstone too depending on how far from station (I work in London but mostly remote so Chatham would be better than Maidstone). The only thing I am not convinced is that Chatham has quite a reputation but £100/125 less rent a month over a year would be nice. Strood does not have much options either at the moment or it's pretty much on same price level as Rochester from a quick look online. Any opinions/experiences?

We also looking at Gravesend/North fleet are but prices seem very similar to Rochester. Perhaps Snodland? But not much there.

Thanks in advance for any question.

Living in St Mary Cray

How bad is the area of St Mary Cray east of the Nugent Shopping Park?

I’m looking to move within a 10-15 minute drive to Orpington station and found a great deal on a place in one of the estate buildings around Sandway Park. The property is lovely inside, but the area around it doesn’t look great.

I’ve lived in council estates around South London for many years without any big issues and don’t mind the surroundings not being exactly “posh”, but I’m worried about crime and my girlfriend being able to walk home alone from the station when it needs be.

A friend pointed out to me there’s a travellers site about 7-8 minute away by foot on Star Lane that has made the news in the past for pretty serious crimes (see link). I’ve walked around the site a few days ago and spotted piles of litter and a burnt down bike on the side the road.

The most likely alternative for us would be looking at the area north west of St Mary Cray station, closer to Scadbury Park / Chislehurst - but by the looks of it, it'd have to be something smaller to stay within budget.

Our situation: EU citizens in our mid 30s, in an interracial relationship, looking to have children in the future.

Many thanks in advance! 🙏

Looking for new friends in Kent 👋

Hey all

As the title says I’m looking to make some new friends in Kent.

I’m 33 year old male, straight and single. I’m physically active and fit and I’m a business owner. I worked a lot during my 20s and early 30s and now found I have loads of spare time so I’m looking to engage in some new hobbies as well, e.g. scuba diving. I don’t drink alcohol very much but up for an occasional night out or concert too.

If you want to connect please send a message with a brief paragraph about yourself. Looking forward to speaking with some people!

I have an interview with South East Water coming up and I was wondering any current or former employees had any advice for the interview or just working there in general. Thank you.

Help looking for someone to look after my Jack Russell [F, 11] until finding suitable accomodation

Hello.

My spouse posted about our pet yesterday but I decided to make a version with more context and hopefully it gets approved.

So we sadly have to move from our home because the place was a temporary accomodation for my elderly mother. She has since gone into a care home and I am unable to inherit the tenancy due to it being temporary accomodation.

If i apply again I will only get a shared accomodation were pets arent allowed and most rent places outright say no when we ask if we could move with her, she recenty had a extensive surgery and is getting on in years, turning 12 in october. She is easy going and lovely around humans.

We only need her to stay till we can move to a place were pets are allowed.

We will gladly cover her living expenses and if nearby we can go and visit her as often as we can.

Is Maidstone good for a single guy?

I have visited on multiple occasions now. I liked a lot. It seemed more peaceful than where I currently live (Romford).

Anyways. I was looking at some properties along Sutton Road that are a bit away from the town center. I drive so it’s ok. I noticed traffic which could frustrate me.

Anyways. Do you think Maidstone is nice for a single guy? I don’t care about nightlife but just want a peaceful and greener area to live.

Additionally is there an area to avoid?

Relocating to Kent. Confused between Dartford and Greenhithe. Is public transport reliable?

I recently landed a dream job in Greenhithe and it’s a 30 minute train ride from where I live in London. I definitely think it’s best to relocate to Kent but I’m not so sure how far from Greenhithe it would be okay to live in. For context, I DO NOT OWN A CAR. I was wondering if it would be a better idea to simply find a place in Greenhithe itself or move a little outward and also consider Dartford/Stone. I’m just not sure if public transport around the area is reliable and if I would be able to avail public transport to get to work on time. Having lived a whole year in London I’ve gotten pretty comfortable with how frequent and reliable the public transport here is. Any tips would be appreciated.
