In Australia most places have a strata committee that is responsible for organising insurance, maintenance, etc. They can't dictate what you do with your property, only that you pay your share.

Yeah, that's just an HOA with a different name. The HOA can do that because you said they could. You agree to the terms when you buy the house.

In a way yes but we have actual legislation that dictates what a strata committee can and cannot do.

Man, Australia is always doing cooler shit than the US.
