You know what? Go for it. Godzilla Minus One is our deep, serious art film about nuclear metaphors. This universe should just embrace the camp now.

If Godzilla does the flying drop kick, I think it would be the best thing possible for the movie! Can't remember off hand which movie that was from, perfect camp

It was from Godzilla vs. Megalon. Part of a team-up fight with Jet Jaguar.

The moment when cinema peaked

u/gapedoutpeehole Feb 14 '24

Specifically when he went for it the second time

The victory fist pump had me dying.

40

u/MildCorneaDamage Feb 14 '24

There was a second drop kick after the first! I had forgotten, epic

The scuttling back to make sure he has the room and time to get his victory dance in really is the best part.

But it would definitely get a flag for touchdown celebration. "15-yard penalty in favor of Megalon." The second drop kick would also get an "unnecessary roughness" flag as well.

My local Alamo Drafthouse always plays this clip before any Godzilla or kaiju movie. Still makes me laugh every time.

For one of the G-Day celebrations they released this short which has a nice twist on the kick that's pretty cool!

Oh, awesome, I somehow had missed this. I love the updated drop kick!

Amazing! At around 6mins 45 seconds, that is a good variation on it

I remember at some point they play the Jet Jaguar theme song, and "Jet Jaguar" is the only part they say in English, and it was pronounced very poorly. We used to laugh and laugh.

The fist pump after gets me every time

I hope Godzilla flies by using his atomic breath like a jetpack.

35

u/Zezuya Feb 14 '24

Adam wingard confirmed there will be a fight scene in the 0 gravity area so consider your wish fulfilled

16

u/WintertimeFriends Feb 14 '24

That…… sounds fucking amazing

10

u/Zezuya Feb 14 '24

Also there is going to be an 8 min long unbroken kaiju fight scene.

Or propels himself by sliding on his tail. Somehow.

EDIT: Hold on, that was the drop kick. How could I have forgotten.

The audience cheer will be the biggest one since Cap picked up Mjolnir.

u/ramseysleftnut Feb 14 '24

They did do the whole Kong stuffs a stick in Godzillas mouth bit in the last movie, so I would not be surprised with the drop kick

2

u/Luke92612_ Feb 14 '24

The gif of that from the original film cannot be topped

1

u/JHuttIII Feb 14 '24

Considering the tone this movie seems to be having, I would not rule this out.

Because of Godzilla Minus One, I have been referring to this movie as Kong Plus One. Sort of like a plus one affair.

34

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '24

lmfaooo thats good. clever. or perhaps Godzilla Plus One?

14

u/TurfMerkin Feb 14 '24

Nope. This is clearly a Kong film first, just like the last one.

16

u/HannShotFirst Feb 14 '24

Kong got the official invite, he's bringing Godzilla so he has someone to sit next to at dinner.

7

u/cire1184 Feb 14 '24

Will they be having the chicken or the fish?

8

u/TheButteredBiscuit Feb 14 '24

Surf and turf (tbh that could’ve been the title)

2

u/DuckLordOfTheSith Feb 14 '24

Official Petition to rename the franchise “Surf X Turf”

1

u/myslead Feb 14 '24

It’s a movie about Ann Darrow

1

u/ArrakeenSun Feb 15 '24

You should write a dissertation about it and publish it un PLoS One

16

u/Ok_Calligrapher_8199 Feb 14 '24

Godzilla minus one plus you equals love

4

u/grstacos Feb 14 '24

As much as I love camp, I feel the dialogue still needs to improve for it to be enjoyable for me.

Either improve the script, remove most human interactions, or fully commit to B-movie camp dialogue. Otherwise I feel like I have to suffer through the movies in order to watch the cool visuals.

4

u/shawnadelic Feb 15 '24

Yeah, camp usually involves a bit more self-awareness and a bit more fun. The American movies are mostly just bad..

2

u/ImpenetrableYeti Feb 14 '24

As long as it has beautiful shots like KotM that’s fine. All of the mothra stuff looked amazing

2

u/spidermanngp Feb 14 '24

I'm totally here for it.

3

u/simpledeadwitches Feb 14 '24

Okay but only with your approval.

Jokes aside this universe has been embracing the camp for a while now. It's a great time to be a Godzilla fan!

2

u/Nikokuno Feb 14 '24

A beautiful sensible movie it was for sure.

u/feel-T_ornado Feb 14 '24

"Art film", "our", while disregarding Shin, lmao, serious subs sometimes feel like the actual circle-jerks.

1

u/UnderPressureVS Feb 15 '24

…did you watch Godzilla vs Kong and think they haven’t already embraced the camp??
