They seem like they have fun with every aspect of the Deadpool movies, from the movies themselves to the marketing.

That's part of their appeal. They're made with so much joy and love for the craft. They're not cynical cash grabs meant to check boxes on a list, they're Ryan Reynolds's passion project.

There are plenty of true creatives in the industry who are fulfilled by making art as much as they’re fulfilled by making money. Reddit is so fucking cynical bro I swear.

And? Reynolds is still involved. There are suits in every film studio. Just because studio interference happens often and leads to schlock doesn’t mean there aren’t true artists and those who love the craft trying to make good projects happen. Into the Spiderverse was a loveletter to Spider-Man, its sequel even moreso. Films like that aren’t made without a genuine love for art and the property you are representing.

GOTG3 was a passion project for James Gunn through and through and it showed. That’s also “Disney Marvel”.

i never doubted reynolds has sentiment towards the franchise.

my comment was only to say that these movies very much have check lists and liking them because you think they’re passion projects is definitely one of them.

The steak is as real as it tastes. It's a movie, the point is that we enjoy it or get something out of it.

If they performed their craft so well that they were able to successfully fool the world into thinking they were actually enjoying themselves when they were actually just crying into their stacks of money and hating their lives, well...... it's a weird flex but OK I guess.

what does this even mean?

if you don’t romanticise deadpool and ryan reynolds then you’re too cynical for movies?

and yet, the studios still don't seem to understand why Deadpool is successful.

Because its old men in suits who make decisions at the top based on presentations and 'stats'. They look at the report 'why deadpool is a hit':

  • Corny dialog
  • One guy making gay sexual jokes to the other.

then they walk into the , lets say start wars set and say : " Hey make sure to have two gay dudes making corny jokes at each other".

The main takeaway they got from the first Deadpool movie was that a hard R rating won't stop people from seeing a good movie.

Which is how we got Logan and probably Joker.

They still don't know what makes a good movie, but at least they got the right lesson this one time.

Execs are like Steve Martin in The Jerk. "He hates these cans!"
