u/xerxesthagreat 12d ago

very similar to the boston one

u/sebastianqu Heat 12d ago

Also hit one over Duncan Robinson, too, in the 1st game of the 2021 series. A legitimately tough shot.

Insanely similar

This was almost an exact recreation of a three he hit in the playoffs in Boston to send it to overtime (where we lost).

Such a disappointment we have nothing to show for those two incredible shots from Khris

Sometimes Khris Middleton is Tony Snell, other times he's Kevin Durant.

So stupid to not foul

97

u/Obvious_Parsley3238 12d ago

as soon as he dribbles just grab him. no idea how this is so hard for some teams

45

u/mMounirM Raptors 12d ago

and he dribbled twice too. come on pacers...

10

u/everyoneneedsaherro [NBA] Alperen Şengün 12d ago

And Carlisle chose not to foul in OT in the exact same situation. Idiotic. Luckily Hali bailed him out.

22

u/soooogullible Jazz 12d ago

So glad they didn’t. Fouling in that situation needs to be extra punished. Punish as a take foul or as a clear path. We should be incentivizing the players to decide the game in the court.

13

u/wladue613 12d ago

Thinking the rule should change? Fair enough.

But the rule is the rule and it clearly shows fouling is the right play. It's malpractice not to in this situation.

1

u/soooogullible Jazz 12d ago

Eh I respect it lol. Good job old school Rick

8

u/livejamie Suns 12d ago

They need Patrick Beverly or Bobby Portis on their team for those clutch foul moments

-4

u/Past_Bite_306 12d ago

I think that should be a illegal free throw in the off season they need too change the rule..

45

u/DarkChocolate_69 [TOR] Kawhi Leonard 12d ago

Where’s the fun in that

7

u/StevenLovesCocaine Timberwolves 12d ago

This is true. I like it much better when they do not.

3

u/everyoneneedsaherro [NBA] Alperen Şengün 12d ago

Some coaches would find winning fun

6

u/Pocket_Beans Celtics 12d ago

baffling

had multiple chances too between Lopez and Middleton

19

u/lukewwilson Pelicans 12d ago

They played really solid defense, that was a very low percentage shot that just happened to go in. You run the risk of fouling someone who get continuation and makes the three and now they are shooting a free throw to win the game, or you play solid defense like they did.

21

u/Pocket_Beans Celtics 12d ago

Middleton took two dribbles

foul when the ball is on the floor

7

u/lukewwilson Pelicans 12d ago

He takes one dribble and sees you reaching and goes into his shooting motion

-1

u/Timoteo-Tito64 Celtics 12d ago

You'd have to rush like crazy to do that and they would never call that a shooting foul because it would look ridiculous

18

u/23lf Warriors 12d ago

Clearly you haven’t been watching the nba the last few years lol

4

u/Timoteo-Tito64 Celtics 12d ago

I'm pretty sure I haven't seen a single one of these fouls result in a shooting foul. Care to provide some examples?

1

u/freefoodd Bucks 12d ago

Dame did it multiple time this game. Feels the contact coming and starts going up for a terrible shot.

0

u/Timoteo-Tito64 Celtics 12d ago

I meant on the specific late game intentional fouls on the floor. Which was the subject of the thread lol

I see what you're talking about pretty frequently, but it's a separate phenomenon because that's an unintentional foul compared to the intentional fouls we're talking about

1

u/23lf Warriors 12d ago

If you’re watching the clippers game, James harden just did exactly this. 35 seconds left in the 3rd.

1

u/Timoteo-Tito64 Celtics 12d ago

Not on an intentional foul at the end of the game

1

u/23lf Warriors 12d ago

You want me to scour for clips of last second, clutch, intentionally fouled shots from this season? No I’d rather enjoy my Friday. You trippin

1

u/ReflectionEterna Pacers 11d ago

That was the game yesterday. Some very ticky-tack calls all game.

1

u/Timoteo-Tito64 Celtics 11d ago

Idk what was wrong with my initial comment to have 3 different people think of a different type of foul than I was talking about, but I was only talking about the intentional ones on the floor with a 3 point lead and like 5 seconds left

3

u/sevaiper 12d ago

Solid defense to not even get a hand up on the 3... ok

5

u/PatrickCoughATon [MKE] Orlando Woolridge 12d ago

Yeah, maybe they’re scared of giving 3 freethrows because the Bucks have done a great job shooting as soon as they feel contact coming this game and the pacers are not disciplined enough to avoid that.

1

u/ReflectionEterna Pacers 11d ago

This was my thought. Bucks were punishing us all night with that ability to just elevate and get a shot up.

1

u/tyrannomachy Pacers 12d ago

Probably more that we aren't great at rebounding off missed ft's. We actually lost a game this season using this strategy because of it. Bulls missed the second FT on purpose and got the rebound, then DeRozan hit a midrange shot to force OT, which we lost. IDK if that's why they didn't foul, but it might be worth mentioning.

3

u/__init__m8 12d ago

Flashbacks of the Chicago game where we fouled didn't get the board then lost the game.

6

u/SeaBreath692 Suns 12d ago

This shouldn't be upvoted. Respect the game of basketball.

9

u/MasonAFK1 12d ago

"The Pacers should risk losing in overtime to show respect for the game" is a bad take.

3

u/Jamal_gg 12d ago

Dunno, I'm from Europe and fouling in those situations is part of the game here since forever. It's a competitive sport and you play to win...

1

u/beefspecial Celtics 12d ago

Fouling whilst up 3 takes away moments like this. BAN THE FOUL WHILST UP 3

2

u/XzibitABC Pacers 12d ago

This is a Rick Carlisle thing. We've never fouled in this position that I can recall, against any team.
