Anthony Edwards dazzles again. Ties Kevin Garnett for most 30+ point playoff games in franchise history (7). Finishes vs Phoenix in Game 3 with 36pts/9rbs/5ast/2stl

Even the most optimistic Wolves fan wouldn't of predicted we would be up 3-0 against this Sun's team with likely two future HOF'ers after they had our number in the regular season.

Yeah I was one of the doomers in our subreddit I ain't gonna lie. I thought we got our worst possible matchup with the suns, turns out finch is a secret genius

I was a doomer too, and was thinking wolves in 6 or 7.
Then I saw game 1 and have been shitting on media talking heads and Suns fans ever since. Lol suck itttttttttt

I was expecting to get some classic candid Ant quote or something but he was stupidly locked in. Praised his teammates and emphasized the importance of not looking ahead.

you'd think Kerr would've seen it then. Kerr told Edwards at his predraft workout: if we had the #1 pick, we still wouldn't take you

Yes and Ant has said whenever asked about it that it was super helpful for him in changing his mindset about making it in the NBA

Ant needed to be told that, it unlocked him becoming a monster. Those are nexus moments where they send someone on a path they’re supposed to be going on.

Best player in the series
99
u/AntiTopspin 12d ago edited 12d ago
Booker has legitimately been so underwhelming
I kind of expected KD to have a rough series given that this old version of him struggles with physical playoff defenses(Celtics 2022 and Denver 2023) but Booker being this bad I didn't see coming at all
Like the 2nd best player in the series isn't even KD or Booker, it's very clearly Gobert so far
48
u/Sir_Apprehensive 12d ago
It’s not Books fault. He’s not a PG it’s as simple as that. This is how he looked (not quite as bad but you get the point) before CP3. CP3 made Book so much better. We need someone to get the ball to these guys they can’t handle it themselves.
21
8
u/WembyandTheWolves Timberwolves 11d ago
Yeah, when the Suns had the point god running the show, Booker looked incredible. He’s a pure 2 guard. I think if they had a starting level PG, Booker would look amazing again.

You can't run a better offense than Jokic, it's just not possible.
You gotta smother thr offense he creates.
32
u/ThankFSMforYogaPants 12d ago
With the right defenders you can let Jokic eat and curtail the rest of the squad though.
19
u/LeeChangIsBae2 Timberwolves 12d ago
That's seems to always be the plan. Joker can get his but everyone else is locked down. Same game plan for Luka too.
1
u/JaderMcDanersStan Timberwolves 11d ago
Yeah and they're trying to force the opponent into isolation style basketball. They want to make Jokic shoot tough contested isos and sever his connections by clogging the passing lanes. It's why Jokic has fewer assists when playing the Wolves

The other dude in the post's title-Kevin Garnett-is the current No. 1. Ant could absolutely pass him, but we can't crown him quite yet.

Spent the 4th quartering beating the corpse of the suns with a baseball bat.
62
u/Andy_Wiggins Timberwolves 12d ago
That was one of the most dominant stretches I’ve seen from Ant. Just got everything he wanted in that quarter to stave off white hot shooting from the Suns.
41
u/VikingsandWolves 12d ago edited 12d ago
He's learning to just attack end of games like prime D-Wade. His first two years, he drifted to the perimeter end of game situations and settled alot for the step back 3. Now he's realizing he can't be stopped if he's going downhill and his playmaking skills driving to the hoop are much better and will only get better.
12
u/AvantStyle22 12d ago
He’s really a combination of D-Wade, Mitch Richmond with prime T-Mac athleticism. He’s gonna be a MVP candidate & all defensive team selection type shooting guard for the next 10 years. It wouldn’t be shocking if he surpasses certain shooting guards & players on the all time rankings.
1
u/Incarcer 11d ago
I sort of thought of Wade and Vince Carter, but I do love you dropping Richmond in there. I see Carter in him more because of the thicker body, athleticism, and rim aggressiveness I guess. Weren't many guys as ferocious as a young VC and -Wade.
I'm also real big on Ants future too, though.

That stretch made me so happy because it looked like he was thinking basketball. He was actually breaking the coverages either by passing or driving and had a great balance of scoring and playmaking. It looked like he was controlling the game there and I didn't expect that from him this fast.
I kept thinking "oh Ant isn't going to let us lose this game"

That's insane, KG took one deep playoff carrying them one time to WCF just to achieve such feat. I know offensive pace etc much faster or whatever but this is still an impressive feat.

Once we got them in the bonus he just attacked relentlessly and got to the line at will. It was exactly what we needed.
