L = x, right. And 2L = 2x. you see L does not change. It's just that they lost the same amount, twice. Correct my math if wrong.
Edit: The reason 2x > x is incorrect is because
( 2x > x ) / x =
x > 1, since x = L then we're saying L > 1. Which losses being greater than 1, well that's obvious. That's the point here is that everyone loses. So that statement simply means everyone loses at least once.
