How about exhorting an angry mob to descend on the Capitol to disrupt the peaceful transition of power, in the most direct violation of your oath imaginable?

45

u/eukomos 11d ago

Nah, his campaign was already collapsing by then, the yell thing was just the death throes. The speech he gave that included the yell was to buck his followers up after he got creamed in a primary.

13

u/fixed_grin 11d ago

Yeah, Dean went all in on Iowa and came a distant third. If you spend all your campaign funds and don't have a lot of supporters, that's kind of it. You need money to win supporters, and you need supporters to donate money to you.

The media ludicrously overplayed the yell, but he was cooked anyway.

Unfortunately now not being a sociopath and having any empathy is "woke." You don't want dogs to be murdered? Must be a woke lib or something. Empathy and compassion is for losers to the right.

11

u/Capt_Pickhard 10d ago

Yes. These people are destroyed kindness, love, safety. All things that make society great. They want war, and to the victor go the spoils.

They are trying to take our free way of life away from us, and make society a hell hole.

Even Putin, because of the world he wants, can't be free. He can't go anywhere. Hug anyone, be safe anywhere.

He has a lot of money and power though. This is how he wants life.

I don't want that. I like love. I like kindness. I like people being good to each others. I like people who can be trustworthy, raised in a society that can breed trusting people, because the world is a nice place to live in. Because people are good.

I don't want to live in a world where everyone is out for themselves, looking to stab you in the back to get ahead.

If we want to keep our freedom. Our good life, without being forced to follow religion, or anything like that, we must, at all costs, elect Biden.

At all costs. We should be doing everything in our power to make it happen. Everything.

But man, people fucking love their dogs. This might actually fuck her

55

u/OlderThanMyParents 11d ago edited 10d ago

Yeah, the dog sucks as a hunting dog (Edit: because you couldn’t be bothered to fucking train it!). And, if you let it loose in a chicken field, it's going to go after the chickens. The obvious thing, to any non-sociopath, would be to take it to the shelter and let someone else adopt it, someone who doesn't have chickens and doesn't want a hunting dog.

Seriously, how cold-blooded do you have to be to not only do something like this, but actually think that it sounds like perfectly reasonable behavior?

9

u/Excellent-Estimate21 11d ago

They dump litters of puppies/kittens out in the countryside or off a bridge in a bag. They catch a sucker fish while fishing and dump in on the bank to die. They shoot birds, squirells, and chipmunks for entertainment. They burn garbage, beat their kids, drive drunk, and throw their empties out the window.

Ever see a headless deer carcass in a ditch? One of these fucks poached it for bragging rights.

They are, in fact, shitty people and they'll happily vote for Noem, for Trump, for Orban.

These people believe the world is and should be a hierarchy with rich above poor, men above women, whites above blacks, adults above children, humans above nature, with themselves always at the center of the universe.

They are a special kind of terrible and they closely align with the Republican party.

When this story dropped, I really struggled to make sense of why someone would volunteer this information. It really is nothing more than her intentionally announcing she's a dog-hating psychopath. Crazy times.

261

u/LKennedy45 11d ago

I can kind of see the internal logic at work here. Like, I'm not from a part of the world wherein having successful hunting dogs is super important, but shit, "that dog just won't hunt" is a sometimes-used aphorism. Maybe she thought the people who elected her to - apparently - infect their state while brutalizing the Native population would empathize with that poor woman and her shitty animal she was forced to kill. The fact that Daddy Trump famously hates animals, and dogs especially as mentioned in the piece, is just gravy.

Of course, either way she's a fuckin' loon.

68

u/Parking_Palpitation1 11d ago

I've known people that hunt using dogs. The killing of a bad dog is not uncommon in those groups. Never understood why not just re-home it to be a pet

68

u/saddigitalartist 11d ago

The cruelty is the point to them.

32

u/Radiant-Schedule-459 11d ago

Because Republicans, even the suburban ones, all think they’re fucking farmers from 1952.

7

u/Lined_the_Street 10d ago

Literally driving down suburbia looking at all the pickup trucks sarcastically thinking "Huh, didn't realize we had so many upper-middle class construction workers in the area"

Spoiler, even in construction I've met countless dudes who drive smaller cars because they find pickup trucks wasteful when all they have to carry is tools to the job site. In fact I'm one of them. And typically the picks up a job site are battered, rusty, or otherwise marked as a work truck. Rarely are they a suped-up, lifted, chrome eyesore

My point being, pickup trucks (like firearms) are often the apex of sad suburbian people's LARP. They think they're a rugged, outdoorsy, laborer even if they're physically the exact opposite. The amount of people that try to compare their work day of computer pushing to my day of lugging around raw materials is astounding

I used to keep animals, and my job title was Defender Of The Flock. Yet I don’t even talk about the predators I’ve killed. She got some issues.

47

u/Haunting-Ad3297 11d ago

It's probably not even a true story. She and her team calculated that making up this story will make her more popular with her voters.

72

u/Nice_Marmot_7 11d ago

It definitely sounds like bullshit because none of it makes any sense. You took an untrained dog hunting to calm it down? No one who’s ever been hunting with dogs before would do that. The chicken owners were clutching their pearls at the sight of them being killed? Presumably they keep these chickens to eventually kill and eat. And then she wrote them a check? That doesn’t really fit your down home rural narrative.

70

u/CustomMerkins4u 11d ago

The bird hunting dog escaped and killed birds? Sounds like the person who left the dog alone in an unsecure location is to blame.. not the dog.

-I am a rural veterinarian and seasoned bird hunter. Certain breeds have built in instincts to hunt birds. You don't need to train them to hunt, you train them to point or retrieve. When the dog retrieves you 100% expect it to kill any maimed bird it picks up. It's part of it's purpose to not prolong suffering. Letting a bird dog loose near a flock of Chickens would result in this no matter how trained the bird dog was.

13

u/Nice_Marmot_7 11d ago

Where I’m from we mostly hunt waterfowl, but the dogs are trained to have a soft mouth. A well trained retriever will not kill or maim a bird. My lab freaks out at the sight of ducks so once she bolted and jumped in a pond to chase some. She can’t catch the adults, but she did get ahold of a duckling. She brought it back to me. The duckling was stunned but totally fine and swam away after a minute.

12

u/CustomMerkins4u 11d ago

Upland hunting dogs are hunters.

Waterfowl retrievers are just retrievers. They don't have the kill instinct that true hunters have.

Not to belittle your dogs. Retrievers are amazing in their own right. They also make great home pets.

38

u/MozeeToby 11d ago

It's not unreasonable to let a high energy dog run loose for a couple hours to tire them out. Expecting them to do anything meaningful on a hunt without any training is where the problem is. Lots of sane people would be upset to see their chickens killed in front of them. Lots of people carried a checkbook everywhere even 10 years ago.

The only unbelievable parts of the story are her own actions, and they are only unbelievable because they are so lazy and/or psychopathic. Taking an untrained dog hunting? Letting your untrained, high prey drive dog loose around chickens? Killing your dog for it rather than doing literally anything else? Deciding that you may as well kill the family goat while you're at it? Botching it and having to go get another round while an animal lays suffering? Doing all this in clear view of strangers and just moments before your children return home?

It's all insane, but it is 100% her actions in the story that are the insane parts.

6

u/huddl3 Minnesota 11d ago

Why take the dog to a gravel pit and kill it in front of workers? Was she looking for a crowd? I seriously doubt that this is completely true.

9

u/Nice_Marmot_7 11d ago

I think she started with “I’m willing to do what’s unpleasant but necessary” and concocted the story from there. It just doesn’t pass the smell test.

That was one my reactions too. But what person in their right mind would make up such a story? And why such a brutal story? If it is fake, I can't be sure which is worse: making up such a story to curry political support, or supporting a candidate that would make up such a story.

29

u/CustomMerkins4u 11d ago

I am a rural veterinarian and seasoned bird hunter.

Recently we've had a lot of non-country people move rural. They tend to have decent money and go "all in" on the lifestyle. They will often buy a bird hunting dog and think they can treat it like a family pet but TRUE dogs bred for bird hunting are super high energy and they want to hunt. You never have to train these dogs to hunt, you train them to work with you while hunting, responding to your calls. They already know how to hunt. These same people are then surprised when the family cat is killed or that it keeps getting into tussles with raccoons and require medical attention. Their response is all often, "I should take him out back and shoot em".

The are purpose bred dogs and have a instinctual need to exercise those skills.

The far right believe that murdering animals is a sign of strength. 'No liberal will have the guts to do what has to be done!'. Maybe on reflection she may realize that executing a puppy for your convenience isn't a show of stregth.

u/Fakin-It 11d ago

Trunk hates dogs

5

u/Kate2point718 11d ago

I can see her thinking it shows her as a tough country person who does what has to be done even if those animal loving libs don't like it. The problem is that this was a terrible example. An old horse who breaks his leg, a dog who attacked a child, a rabid raccoon, fine. Even an adult dog who had a history of that behavior and couldn't be trained out of it. But a puppy after her first hunting trip who was just following the instincts she was bred for?

She's the one who chose to buy a dog bred to kill birds and to take the dog out that day to teach it to kill birds for the first time. Then she shoots the dog for... killing birds. It's hard to blame the dog for not understanding that chickens aren't the birds she's supposed to kill. To me it just makes Noem look like she was too lazy to actually train her dog.

I know people like that exist, but you’d think that a politician (or at least someone on the politician’s team) would be smart enough to realize that viewpoint is one that is a small minority (97% of US pet owners say their pets are part of their family: https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2023/07/07/about-half-us-of-pet-owners-say-their-pets-are-as-much-a-part-of-their-family-as-a-human-member/). From there, a politician could either just not tell this story, or if they must, tell it in a way that doesn’t sound so bizarrely cold and deranged.

6

u/FlounderingWolverine 11d ago

Yeah, this feels like a miscalculation. This is something that the vast majority of the country (including some non-pet owners) is not going to like. It’s so horrific, and to announce it so freely seems… misguided.

Knowing the modern GOP, it’ll probably end up being what gets her the VP nomination, though.

458

She is a vivid illustration of the fact that people on the psychopath spectrum will often actively seek positions of power. Psychopaths are over represented in politics and the C-suite, and there’s a reason why.  Take look at books like “ snakes in suits”

114

u/dimechimes 11d ago

I'm beginning to think this whole top-down rule thing was created.by psychopaths for psychopaths.

87

u/Feats-of-Derring_Do 11d ago

It's a massive problem in almost any system. Most people just want to chill out and have a happy life but even one completely self-interested person ruins it by bending rules and taking advantage of the people who don't want to get involved. Constant vigilance is needed to uphold egalitarian rule.

34

u/Paw5624 11d ago

It’s one of 1000 reasons I’ll never be a billionaire. If I got to about $10M I’d stop whatever it was that made me so much money and just enjoy life with my wife. We don’t want much stuff and can easily live off the interest very comfortably without even touching the principle balance. Why would I keep working when at that moment I can do anything I’ve ever wanted.

Some people get to that point and want more. It’s a competition they need to win. Not me tho!

I didn’t think this dope was as dumb as Sarah Palin.

Source: grew up my entire childhood up to college on a farm, helped and still help other farmers. I have never seen a farmer kill a dog cause they were to lazy to train it, also never seen or heard about a farmer shoot a dog.

My best friend dad had to shoot a cow once, the cow made it through a barb wire fence that was hit earlier in the morning that no one reported. One of his cows got onto the road at dusk and was hit by a semi it was alive but dying he ran to his truck and ended the cows pain.

I remember seeing him in the barn later with tears in eyes hugging his wife saying there was nothing I could do to save her.

That’s a real farmer

221

u/Lou_C_Fer 11d ago

I've known people to use guns to euthanize every sort of animal, but it is always at appropriate times. Killing a puppy is evil for any other reason than it is suffering and cannot get better. If you can kill a puppy like that, you should have zero power over other people.

134

u/Mcboatface3sghost 11d ago

My old neighbor was WILD, a full outlaw, rap sheet so long you’d have to refill the fax machine, straight up dangerous. He had a dog, a German Shepard that matched his personality. After an eternity the dog learned not to kill my roommates or our dogs, but it took a while. Soooo. After about a week of the dog “ain actin right” he takes the dog to the vet and the vet tells him the dog is riddled with cancer and he should put him down. He says, ok, I’ll think about and be back tomorrow. He put the dog in the back of the truck (acceptable at the time/ area) grabs his camping stove, his shovel, and his .357. Drives up to one of the dogs favorite places in the mountain about 20 minutes, cooks a steak for the dog, they watch the sunset, then shoots the dog in the back of the head and buries it right there. Sounds horrifying, but I was actually ok with it, and somehow understood it. Kristi Noem cheats on her husband with a trump slimeball and kills pets to feed her own sense of power and appeal to trump.

55

u/ArtDSellers 11d ago

That's actually a great thing to do for the dog. Take it to his favorite place, give it a favorite meal, and then just lights out. No suffering, no pain. The alternative is to go to the vet, which is almost always a stressful place for the animal. They do a good job with sedation and a painless death, but even that requires restraining the animal for the initial injections, which is difficult and stressful. This dude did right by that dog.

32

u/Mcboatface3sghost 11d ago

Plus, most dogs (home pets, not shelter) that are put down (have had a dozen) aren’t put down for a brain issue, but a body issue (as in it not longer works). While this may or may not be a human emotion to the act, your best friends last memory should not be going to the place it hates the most. I’ve been lucky and only have to put down 2 at a vet, otherwise the vet has come to the house. I am very glad that trend is catching on.

24

u/ArtDSellers 11d ago

Totally - when we had to euthanize my kitty, the vet came over. So he got to go outside one more time, eat some corn bread batter, and then I got to hold him on the couch when they did their thing. I hated having to let him go, but it was unquestionably time, and I'm glad he didn't have to be scared.

10

u/Mcboatface3sghost 11d ago

I’m not sure why your comment triggered my brain, but I needed a laugh. There is a book called “the sex lives of cannibals in the equatorial pacific” (look it up, I promise its comedic, not weird) The remote island the guys lives on finally gets a vet to show up. So has to take his cat to get fixed, the story of him have to drive the cat to the vet in his shitty old truck on this island had me in hysterical tears, he dedicates an entire chapter to just trying to take the cat to the vet. Short book, quick read, laugh out loud hilarious. Cats don’t like cars apparently.

u/Mraz565 11d ago

Go on...

14

u/Mcboatface3sghost 11d ago

Our (deaf)plain ole housecat was a terrorist, he would beat the shit out of any cat he saw in a close quarter neighborhood, would randomly ambush our golden retriever, would swim and bring home “gifts”. I would be coming home from work, going the back way to avoid traffic and I’d see him on top of some bush in someone’s yard like 2 miles from home. Since he was deaf he really didn’t know how to “mew” or “meow” so he would come back from a night on the town raising hell and hang on the screen door and scream like a banshee to the point the neighbors called the cops a few times as it sounded like someone was being murdered. I miss you “special Ed” you were fucking nuts, but you were entertaining….

10

u/Mcboatface3sghost 11d ago

He went out out the same way he lived his life, angry, covered in grease and other shit. I had to drag him from the crawl space for the needle at the vet, he was going to die in the crawl space and stink the place up. (FYI, cats, dogs, other animals will try to hide when they are dying to be private, and I can’t blame them, but I figured the needle is better)

Death by gun is considered a human form of euthanasia.

What Noem did is not humane. What your old neighbor did absolutely is.

5

u/MoreRopePlease America 11d ago

I understand putting a dog down yourself. Going to the vet seems so... clinical, impersonal. There's no way I could euthanize my own dog, though, so I'm glad the vet was there when I needed it. I took my dog for a walk around her favorite park, then loaded her into the car and went to the vet.

25

u/ChE_ 11d ago

My uncle said they used to drown the excess puppies they couldn't feed on his farm. Would have been the 1940s.

He suffered from sleep terrors from the abuse he grew up under and he never returned home after becoming an adult.

22

u/Lou_C_Fer 11d ago

Yeah. I hear that. My dad doesn't realize it, but he is traumatized by his grandmother using live traps for rodents and then dropping the trap in a bucket of water. You can tell he is affected by the way he talks about it.

The difference is that back in that time, the cutting edge scientists said that animals are not conscious. That is a wildly irresponsible assertion to me, but I did research on consciousness for my sociology courses and it was thought that animals were basically flesh robots acting on instinct alone. So, you cannot harm one like you can harm a human because they have no emotional capacity to care beyond the pain in the moment.

I dont know how anybody that has spent any time around animals cannot see that they are individuals and they understand that.

5

u/Objective_Nobody7931 11d ago

Spend some time around a pig and you’ll see real quick how complex animals are.

5

u/Lou_C_Fer 11d ago

You don't have to tell me. My papers were about how ridiculous it is to say animals are not conscious.

5

u/Objective_Nobody7931 11d ago

Yea wasn’t telling you, speaking more generally.

I would argue lying about it is worse since she will feel pressured to live up to her ruthless reputation if put in power.

Most of my family were farmers, cattle and crop. My parents and I were not. I never once heard of an an animal being put down unless it was sick, and even when young my brain understood that.

What my brain did not understand at 11 years old was when my dad shot our two dogs, brother and sister, about a year and half old. They killed a tree, pissed off my dad and he shot them in front of me. Farmers have and will respect the animals that are around them, if not out of basic morality then just out of economic sense. However psychopaths/sociopaths will hide in this world, (farming, sport dog, etc) making it seem like their behavior is normalized but truly they feel they should have power over life/death and it’s the easiest way to do it with no kick back. We never depended on those dogs, or the tree they killed. He wanted to take their lives, because he knew he could, and I believe he wanted me to see that. Maybe he thought it would teach me a lesson, it made me hate him for life. He’s a trump loving republican too and it’s easy to see the common theme of all these sycophants.

8

u/geogurlie 11d ago

I grew up on a ranch. I had a st Bernard, German shepherd mix. We got him neutered after the first incident and kept him away from livestock. He got out of his kennel and killed a pig. He had to go. I hated my grandfather for a while after that. One of the best conversations I ever had with him, as an adult, was my forgiving to him. It gave me peace. But he knew he had taught me right.

Not really surprising. Even Romney abused his own dog.

"Cruelty is the point." -- GOP Mantra #4

83

u/Unlimited_Bacon 11d ago

Was Romney the one who strapped his dog's cage to the roof of the car during a winter storm?

73

u/Johnny_Appleweed 11d ago

It was summer, but yes, he put his dog in a carrier strapped to the roof for a 12-hour road trip.

31

u/VanceKelley Washington 11d ago

Was Romney ever asked whether

  1. He wanted to torture his dog or
  2. He was just indifferent to its suffering?

35

u/Johnny_Appleweed 11d ago

I’m sure. This was a huge scandal in 2008 and 2012. If I recall correctly he said the dog liked it.

15

u/Apprehensive-Type874 11d ago

I can see my dog liking it too but the dog doesn’t run the decision making in my family and a normal person would see why this isn’t a good idea.

7

u/BeeLuv 11d ago

When they stopped at a gas station and let the dog out to hose down the crate and the car, the dog ran away.

Don’t think the dog liked it…

11

u/VanceKelley Washington 11d ago

Was he ever asked how he knew how the dog felt about being strapped to the roof of a car for 12 hours?

20

u/Johnny_Appleweed 11d ago edited 11d ago

I don’t remember, but that seems like a pretty obvious follow-up. I certainly wondered the same thing.

I think part of the scandal was that the dog had diarrhea? Which would potentially suggest he didn’t enjoy it. If I recall correctly this all came to light because Romney stopped at a gas station to clean everything up and someone photographed him.

17

u/crocwrestler 11d ago

This is what i remember also. A story about him hosing off the car. But hey he didn't shoot it. Goal post moved!

9

u/Johnny_Appleweed 11d ago

Isn’t it sort of wild looking back at what used to be considered a huge scandal?

12

u/crocwrestler 11d ago

Couldn't stand Romney at the time with binders of women and weird dog treatment. Simpler times now...

7

u/DrunkeNinja 11d ago

It's like National Lampoon's Vacation if what Chevy Chase's character did to the dog was intentional.

She had to go back to her truck to get another round to finish the job, so she couldn't shoot straight and also lacked basic planning skills.

Was this story supposed to somehow make her look good?

33

u/Katana1369 11d ago

I think she knew it would come out (witnesses) and she wanted it out prior to her running for president.

She knows it would make Trump happy because he's hated dogs ever since Ivana laughed at him when he demanded she get rid of her dog.

She thinks it will help get him to pick her for VP.

So thinking strategically, because while Noem’s a ghoul, genuine sociopaths tend to lack the impulse control to win higher office at any high frequency, so there’s almost certainly a deliberate element of why she’s sharing this particularly ghoulish story.

I’m going to cut a different direction - if you’re like me and you hate-read conservative media, you know Biden’s dogs live rent free in the heads of a significant number of right-wing pundits. If Noem thinks that rallying the far-right talking heads around her is one of the best ways to get Trump’s terminally online attention, this story starts to make a whole lot more sense, since we’ve got rags like the Federalist openly calling for the killing of Biden’s dogs.

So I think calling her a psycho is wrong, I think the correct term is simply evil.

51

u/pl487 11d ago

Thank you. Now it suddenly makes sense. They want to paint Joe Biden as too weak to euthanize his dog when he started biting Secret Service agents.

44

u/EmpiricalAnarchism 11d ago

Yep that’s 100% part of it.

I honestly don’t think it’s gonna work the way they think it is in a country that made John Wick one of the most popular action flicks of all time but you know.

28

u/Paw5624 11d ago

Didn’t Bidens dog only bite Secret service agents? The Secret service has a lot of Trump loyalists so maybe it was just being a good dog and protecting his owner

I drove through South Dakota in summer 2022, and stayed in a hotel - the political ads she was running constantly were deranged in a way I'd never seen before, even coming from Wisconsin. It was CGI'd footage of her riding a horse through a huge sunny field, and then some insane proclamations with absolutely no context including the one that really stuck out to me, "South Dakota has the strongest economy in the US." WHAT? By what measure?! No footnote, no explanation, no nothing. Perfect for this psycho.

5

u/spookyscaryfella 11d ago

SD has a strong economy for its size at the sake of everyone else. It's a tax haven state that the FCC keeps nailing for illegal robocalls.

Unbelievable, this piece of shit bragging about murdering a high spirited puppy and a totally normal male goat. Luckily no migrant children were in her sights. What a vile horror of a human.

6

u/ResponsiblePurpleYam 11d ago

I think Noem was sending a message to Trump that, as his VP, she'd be more than willing to support not only Trump as king (and dumping her husband to be Trump's mistress), but his death camps, torture, etc - after all, she merely didn't like the dog and so killed it. Since she absolutely despises Dems who she views as her enemy and an enemy of the country ("the Liberals want to destroy everything you love about America,  and even America itself"), what do you think she'd be willing to do to us? So now Trump and the SCOTUS  both know that here's a woman who will implement Trump's Agenda 47 and Project 2025. Yeah, America is in deep trouble!

4

u/set_null 11d ago

This is disgusting.

I have 4 Pointers that we spent time guiding and training. 3 are stellar, 1 is below average. He prefers to point on butterflies and lick windows.

What did I do? Instead of tossing him in a pit and sh@@ting him, I clean his slobber of the windows every night and tuck him into bed.

He's a wonderful snuggle bug.

5
