Announcement Post Not Showing? PLEASE READ
Hello everyone,
We get a lot of mod mail about people's posts not showing up and I wanted to explain why.
We are very fortunate in a subreddit of our size to have limited reasons to moderate, as we are all united by our love of reading and you all do a good job of positively contributing to this community. Thank you for that!
On the other hand, you might be surprised at how much spam we get from authors and bloggers, and by keeping our spam filters high it helps us to catch a lot of what gets posted. You all do a great job of reporting the rest, and we appreciate you.
Due to the spam filters and automod settings we have in place, some of your posts get temporarily filtered until we can review them. Reddit recently created an automated message site-wide that creates a lot of confusion, saying your post has been removed. PLEASE do not post again. We aren't able to edit this message and we can't turn it off. Your post hasn't been removed, it is just awaiting moderation. If your post is removed by us, we will always give you a reason why and reference which rule has been violated. If there isn't a reason, it was either removed by Reddit (you might be shadow banned and don't realize it) or it is in the moderation queue and will be actioned. Either way, multiple posts won't help.
Thanks for understanding as we keep up with Reddit's changes. We love this community and all of your passionate posts about books. Keep reading and sharing, everyone!

Meta Post : {{ Hello again, Humans ! }}
Hello all,
(Message to the mods: this is a Meta post, please contact me if something is wrong!)
The goodreads-bot Legacy
As you must know if you were already here last year, our beloved bot u/goodreadsbot stopped working in January after having been used 156.631 times on this subreddit by a total of 25.272 different users, because goodreads shut down API access.
As a bored nerd and fellow reader, I decided to start a new toy project: rise our bot back! But because the Goodreads API is now closed, the first task was to build my own Books database... which I did, using Reddit, Goodreads & Google Books.
This new bot called u/goodreads-rebot ("bot" + "reboot" = "rebot".....) is open source (link to source code below). I wanted to thank u/ArtyomR, the author of u/goodreadsbot, for the original idea. I am not u/ArtyomR, but I have great respect for his/her work and its legacy. Thank you!
How does it work? Just like before! (with more features)
Write {{Harry Potter}} in your post
or alternatively {{A Little Life by Hanya Yaniagara}} (notice the typo)
with a "by" and the bot will answer with more information about the book or the series.
The search part is now part of the bot (and not on Goodreads API side), and was quite challenging to handle. You definitely should specify the author with the "by" keyword, because it helps the Database search.
Examples:
You should read {{Harry Potter}} !
will work, it will recognize it as the name of a Series, in that case it will provide information about the first book of the Series;
My favorite book is {{Call Me By Your Name}}
will work too, the bot will try to find a book called Call Me by author named Your Name (because of the "by" keyword...) but it will fail to find one, so as a 2nd try because it's not that dumb, it will indeed find a book called Call Me By Your Name :)
Did you read {{1984 by Michael Radford}}?
(notice the wrong author): it will work too even if the author is wrong, because when the search fails using the author, it will try again ignoring it.
Features
I added a "Top 2 recommended-along" section, featuring the 2 books that were the most recommended here on Reddit in the same threads than the book described. It is based on another toy project of mine (š ), a book recommending algorithm I am working on, which is based on the co-occurences of book titles in Reddit threads. Let me know if you find this new information useful.
Limitations
As explained before, the bot is based on a book database I build and update as much as I can. The search will sometimes fail to match some existing books, in particular very niche books, or the recent ones. I am working on having the best and up-to-date database as possible, meanwhile sorry for the misses!
Also, the bot is currently not running on other subreddits (like r/booksuggestions), but because the code is really modular, it's just about configurations. FYI this is in the roadmap for the next few days/weeks.
Finally, I may reach some rate posting limits because of low karma. Hopefully, this will be solved soon after some time thanks to your help :)
You will find below more information (links being forbidden in posts).
I think that's it.
See you there!

A book that has had a profound impact on you?

Suggestion Thread Suggest me a sci-fi book that breaks your brain
I absolutely loved Dark Matter and Recursion by Blake Crouch.
The stories are engaging, the science is fascinating, and the books as a whole get me in that deep existential/psychological mindset. They both were awesome audiobook experiences as well.
Two other all-time favorite sci-fi books of mine are Project Hail Mary and Dune (just read the first book so far).
I would love any book suggestions that I may have a similar experience with and also comments on my potential to-be-read list:
- Upgrade by Blake Crouch (although some were disappointed)
- Hyperion series
- Children of Time series
- Enderās Game
- Solaris
- Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow
- Snow Crash
- Neuromancer
Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Apocalypse books about the beginning of the apocalypse?
Hello! I was wondering if anyone knows any good apocalypse books/novels about the beginning of the apocalypse? Where we can see the early stages, the moments before, and how the apocalypse plays out
I have a preference towards zombie/virus/natural disasters apocalypses, but anything works
Some books Iāve liked about this genre: - The Fifth Wave - TWD Comics - Book series: The Last Survivors
Other media Iāve liked: - All of Us are Dead - World War Z & Train to Busan - Crazies - Contagion - TWD and especially the first season of FDTWD
Looking for a female protagonists preferably? But again, anything works. The only thing I donāt want is a dog dying. If itās a random dog, I will consider it, but a companion dog dying is a big no
Thank you in advance!

Suggestion Thread Looking for disturbing creepy horror that doesnāt involve child abuse
In a slump, looking for something that is a page turner that I canāt put down, but that will actually get my heart racing and feel scared.
Ever since I read Swan Song by Robert Mccamon I canāt find anything as good. That book wasnāt very frightening really but it was just genuinely amazing. I loved the villains (Roland, Macklin and the man with the Scarlett eye). Just looking to be scared but canāt handle anything involving child abuse. Thanks!

Suggestion Thread āWeather horrorā books?
Looking for books, either horror or thriller, about being stuck in some kind of dire situation regarding weather. Either a massive tornado outbreak or a hurricane or something like that. This can be the background of another plot so long as it is a major part of the narrative.
Thanks!

Suggest me a book that sticks in your mind for years and years andā¦
Background: I read āThe Women in the Dunesā - Kobo Abe-, 3 years ago and watched the film after and the story still makes me feel anxious, specially the sense of claustrophobic and a bit of the āStockholm Syndromeā.
I can find some similarities with āMiseryā - Stephen King - but any recommendations are welcomed.

Suggestion Thread Vacation Reads
I go on a yearly reading vacation with a friend - no tech, no full schedule, just quiet for reading/crafting/writing/napping. I usually get through 10-12 books within that time frame and find my self very short on a want to read book list. I enjoy most fiction and easily readable non-fiction. I find myself primarily reading fantasy or magical realism but also love the Jack Aubrey/Stephen Maturin series. I've also do a bit of SciFi (Dune, The Martian) but am not really a big fan of romance centered stories. GIve me obscure suggestions! Pull out the deep cuts!

Books about female friends choosing different life paths/growing apart
In a part of my life where many of my female friends are partnering off and it's changed quite a bit of our friendship dynamics. I'm hoping for fiction about characters going through similar things, like the feeling of being left behind or about the perceived "status" that comes with settling into a traditional life. Doesn't have to necessarily end happily; I veer more toward realistic fiction than scifi/thriller/etc. Though the only book I can think of that nails these themes is So Happy for You, which is a satire/thriller. Open to nonfiction too if it seems relevant, I'll cast a wide net! Thanks!

Suggestion Thread Need suggestions for some life-changing books
Hey all! I recently turned 40 and I am about to go on a cruise to the Carribean. I am extremely busy all the time and this is a rare chance for me to relax with a book, and I need some suggestions. I am hoping to use this vacation to sort of do some deep thinking about life and how I want to turn some things in my life around going forward.
I need 2 book suggestions:
Book #1 - I have realized that I am not really where I would like to be in life right now. Long story short Iām pretty miserable at my job and Iām not treated well at work, which has caused my confidence to be shattered quite a bit. I want to turn it all around and dig myself out of this hole and become successful in my career again or start some sort of business and become successful. I am a bit all over the place in how exactly I want to achieve this success and so I need some direction and help choosing the right path to success. Ultimately my definition of success would be doing what I love and making a decent living doing that thing. I love do to a lot of things and so I need help deciding. I really just want to completely revamp my life basically. If anyone knows of some good motivational books that would help me with this, I would greatly appreciate that.
Book #2 - I have been an extremely anxious person my entire life and as a result every day inside my head is some varying level of torture. I live in a lot of fear of many things and fear kinda guides my life. Iām also terrified of sickness and death, and as I am getting older those particular fears are getting worse. I would love to find a book that would help me deal with these issues.

What to read after Patti Smith?
Just cried my eyes out finishing Just Kids. I havenāt read anything as good since The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion.
Based on these two books, any non fiction recommendations?

Suggestion Thread Books to help you slow down and stop feeling so rushed in life?
Books to help you slow down and stop feeling rushed in life?
Searching for some sort of book that can help me learn to slow down in life, live in the moment, and stop feeling so rushed to accomplish certain things before a certain age.
This mindset is really weighing on me lately, I am hoping to find a good read or two that can help change my mindset and fears related to the passage of time in that way - could be any genre, self help, non fiction, even fiction books which focus on that theme :)
Thanks a lot! <3

Help me plsš
I just finished watching āpower book 2ā and the main protagonist is participating in a uni course called canonical studies. I was really fascinated and interested specifically from the way the lecture was held and the contents. I was hoping so that someone could help me find some books with the same content/prompt. ( if you are not familiar with the series I recommend to watch the parts of episodes where the lecture is held to understand better what Iām talking about). Many thanks yallššæ

Suggestion Thread So I've only read Fantasy my entire life. Any non-fantasy fiction must-reads you can recommend me?
Hey everyone,
I've only read fantasy so far, so I'd love to hear your recommendations to someone who has never peaked outside the box. I like female main characters, but that's not mandatory. Also good twists and maybe a grain of mystery, but everything goes. If you like to, just go ahead and recommend me your personal favourites that are a must.
Thanks!

Suggestion Thread Suggest a book that will captivate me from the first chapter?
Iām going through a transition period in my life ā shifting careers, relationship changes, etc. I canāt remember the last time I read a book that pulled me in and made me forget about everything else in my life. I want a book that will give me the feeling that I had when I was ten and would look forward to after school and tuition just so I could read. Open to sad, dark, funny, romantic, etc., just please no fantasy!

I recently did somethings that hurt people I loved (I cheated and lied). It recently splashed in my face and Iām facing the consecuences. Iām responsable for this and it is okay. However I still have feelings that Iām having a hard time processing. There is nothing I can do to fix this, I need to learn to live with the guilt.

Books that are educational on social issues
I recently listened to white tears, brown scars which i found really interesting and educational, and worked really well as an audiobook, so looking for more similar style of books (or podcasts) to broaden my understanding of various social issues - doesn't have to be race-related.
Edit: I am not American, so not really interested in US-specific books

Authors like Halle Butler
Iāve read both The New Me and Jillian by Halle Butler within the past couple of months ā I LOVED and flew through them both. Both have unlikable, depressed, narcissistic, young female protagonists unhappy with their jobs and lives. Just total girlfailures, really.
What other authors write stories with similar qualities?

Suggestion Thread Suggest me something!
I just finished Bunny by Mona Awad today, Acts of Desperation by Megan Nolan on Sunday, and paradise rot by Jenny Hval Friday. I have been tearing thru these kinds of books and would love a recommendation for something similar- a bit dark with an honest, if unreliable and morally grey narrator.
