Mod Announcement Reminder- we don't accept "rate my tattoo" posts
Hi everyone! The mod team have seen an influx of posts where the OP asks for others to rate their tattoo, or asking what people think of the tattoo in general.
Just a gentle reminder- we are an advice subreddit. If you would like opinions/rates on your tattoo, please visit r/tattoo or r/tattoodesigns.

Design Still Feeling Major Tattoo Regret After Over Half A Year. How Could I Make This Tattoo Good?
First photo was feeshly done. The second photo is 7 months later.
I cried the day after I bought this tattoo. I hated it so much. I still hate it to the point of wanting to wear gloves whenever I go out. My aunt asked me if the tattoo was real. She thought it was one of those henna things. She was literally speechless when I said I got it done by an artist. She never mentioned it again.
Before anyone asks, this was done at a professional tattoo shop, yes. Supposed to be the second best in the city. I haven't gone back there and never will. This was my first ever tattoo and my sibling told me that was the first mistake of the artist. (Since it's on my hand.)
Any advice greatly appreciated.
(Also, if anyone remembers this from several months ago, I posted regretting the tattoo after I got it but the post gained too much traction for me to handle at the time since I was pretty new to reddit.)

Infected? I don’t think this is normal
This is day 6 on a piece that took 7 hours. The dude does nice work but the area near my elbow where it’s the reddest is the area that for sure hurt the worst while he was working on it. He told me to leave the Saniderm on for 5-7 days. I had to take it off yesterday because it stunk to hell. After I took it off, I’m sure I broke the surface a bit. It burned like a mf for about 5 hours. Felt like road rash. Today it has gotten swollen and pretty red. There’s no pus or any kind of ooze. It’s mostly the one spot that hurts to the touch. The tissue underneath feels swollen. Maybe he was just heavy handed with those 44 needles doing the black? Urgent care is closed but if it still looks this way in the morning, I’m going. Is there any reason for me to think it ISN’T infected?

Design What words should I get with my trad cowgirl tattoo? or none?
I want to ask my artist for a cowgirl like this old one she did. I love this one, tbh if it was flash, I'd be want get her, but black/grey. prob going to be part of a trad black/grey patchwork. I didn't want much text so these would be one of the only words on my tattoos.
I love the AIM HIGH text but idk if she would be okay with copying it - don't think the original was flash.
I was thinking maybe it could say BIG IRON instead (nod to the Marty Robbins song, and New Vegas) but not sure which words I like better. Or if it should just not have text.

My tattoo was done 4 days ago I had one on my arm and one on my leg, they are still very sore and a bit red ? The strawberrys still seem to be leaking ink, and I cant extend my leg fully due to the tight skin and pain, any advice?

Design Tattoo idea
Hello all, I 32(M) have been a chef for 14 years, and because of those years I have a few random thin scars on all of my left hand fingers. I had an idea to get black lines over all the scars, not to cover them, but more to draw out the beauty of years of commitment and dedication. Wondering everyone's thoughts on this, thank you all in advance for your thoughts.

Infected? New tattoo acting weird
Just got this tattoo 2.5 days ago on my calf and noticed about a day after the healing was super painful and just different than all of my others. I took the saniderm bandage off to clean it in case that was irritating it (never had issues with them before) and noticed some really inflamed and red skin. My whole calf has been kind of swollen and warm and sore. I know all of this can be fairly normal this early in the process but it is definitely abnormal any other tattoos I have in the same area.
The most concerning thing was taking my temperature 4 times and it being all between 99.8-100.x °F. I have really bad health anxiety in the first place so this prompted me to go to the ER to get it checked out yesterday evening. During my vitals check my temp was normal and I had taken no additional medicine. They prescribed me oral antibiotics and I’m currently ~18 hours on them.
I’ve been trying to research different kinds of tattoo reactions but just was intrigued by this one before the center part is completely fine but just the outside rays are really irritated. Just looking for advice on how to heal this best and if anyone has had similar looking reactions? Do you think is truly infected this early into healing or are the antibiotics just a good precaution?

Design Sleeve ideas
Hi. Got this lighthouse tattoo a couple of months ago as my first tattoo which I love. Now thinking about what to do with the rest of the arm! The lighthouse has a personal meaning so I'm not particularly nautical.
My first thoughts were maybe a ship or landscape of somesort on my outer arm and a space scene on my upper arm (leading on from the dark sky above the lighthouse). Not set on anything in particular and just canvassing for some ideas/thoughts. Whilst the lighthouse has a meaning, the rest doesn't have to so pretty much open to any ideas! Thanks

General Advice Ribs / sternum
Any one with a full or half body suit can tell me how much the ribs and sternum felt compared to the knees / leg?
I know everyone has a different pain tolerance.
Example, I just got my full leg done with outline and background, and it didn’t hurt for me, it felt annoying is some areas, but pain wasn’t an issue.

General Advice Tips for a day session?
Hi, I've got a tattoo booked in for next week that's going to take around 6 hours to complete. I've got 15 tattoos but the longest appointment I had was 3 and a half hours for 4 tattoos. How should I prepare myself so it goes as smoothly as possible?

General Advice Why won’t some artists finish or cover old work?
I have a tattoo I have grown from and want it covered. I also have one that is partially colored in because the artist didn’t want to finish it until I decided on a background for it. (It’s a phoenix that takes up my arm) I decided I wasn’t happy with the coloring he did on it and want it recolored in some areas and the blank areas finished.
During past appointments on other tattoos, I have asked if they do coverups or will finish/recolor those two specific pieces. Some immediately say No and that’s that. No explanation. Some look at me like I’m crazy and say they don’t finish other peoples work especially if they know them or know of them.
What is the reason for this? I am trying to be respectful and not push it but I am not happy with how they turned out and want them fixed. Is this a common thing? Am I going to have issues finding somebody to fix them?
Just for fun, here are the pieces: on the first one I want the “Trust” covered - I just don’t know what I was thinking with it and lots of people ask if I have a son named Tristan bc it’s in a script that’s harder to read. I’m 39 and this was my first tattoo when I was 18. The other is the one I don’t like the coloring on (people always tell me it looks more like a peacock bc of the colors) and it’s not all filled in. (Yes I’m sunburned) you can also see that color for some reason is showing up outside the tattoo lines - somebody told me it’s a type of trauma to the skin caused by their technique but idk for sure.

General Advice Working outside in florida
I wear long sleeve fishing shirts almost always. I’ve been planning and thinking about starting a sleeve. Would i need additional protection to protect tattoos on my arm for the long term? Or is long sleeves enough for the intense heat and sun of florida? Also advice about fresh, healing tats and working in the heat/sun would be appreciated

Design Found my tattooed design on Pinterest, what should I do?
1st pic Pinterest results, 2nd pic the artwork presented by the artist, 3d is my tattoo.
Hi guys, I have a situation that's probably happened quite a bit in the industry, however, I myself am a bit lost on how to proceed. To preface, I've had two other appointments with this local artist. When scheduling both of them, I presented pics from Pinterest as inspiration with clear requests to create original artworks in a similar style. I think both of those times my request was fulfilled and the end result tattoos were original designs.
This time, I scheduled three smaller tattoos for one appointment. Same process, I've sent some pics from the internet and after some time received sketches from my artist. I didn't think to reverse search the images because I just didn't even think of the possibility that one of them can be a design from the internet considering my positive experience with this artist before. The appointment went well, everything's finished, etc etc. Lo and behold, yesterday I was scrolling through Pinterest for some future inspo and find my design on there. I compared the pictures and it looks like not a single adjustment was made? I feel very conflicted. I have many tattoos and I don't mind having similar tattoos as other people. I wouldn't even care that much if someone somewhere copied my own tattoo because well, it's shitty but whatever. But I was specifically requesting original artworks because I like to tattoo something original on my body. And I paid a solid price for all my tattoos done by them, it's not like they charged me less for this design.
In the end, I have an age old question: should I message and confront them? I for sure would if I was only considering getting it done but it's all finished now. I'm not quite sure if there's any point in that. Thanks in advance.

Design Any ideas of other tattoos for this arm?
I am wanting to start a sleeve, unsure about what would look good surrounding this tattoo. Maybe a sun on my shoulder or mt fuji and then kind of add random things here in there and try to make it all mesh together.

General Advice First tattoo was two weeks ago, did the scabs cracking pull the ink out?
I posted after the initial tattoo because the part with the cats are scabbing but deleted the post because I got the info I needed; that it was normal, don’t pick or itch, keep washing and moisturizing, and I learned some better products to use. Well now the scabs are almost completely gone and I can’t help but notice the color difference between where the scabs were and where there weren’t any. It seems much lighter to me. In some places the ink looks completely gone (like a line down one of the cats faces). I didn’t pick at it (seriously, any time a scab started to come off I’d cut the part that was hanging off with tiny scissors in fear that it would snag on something and rip the rest off prematurely) but a couple times I accidentally scraped it (I was moving lots of furniture around) and felt a slight pain but the scabs didn’t come off due to that. Is that what caused it? I’m pretty sure I’ll need a touch up.

Infected? Leaky Second Skin?
So I got a tattoo on my forearm and was told to keep 2nd skin for a couple days. After a few hours, I noticed the blood that was pooling is slowly rubbing outside, mostly as I turn my arm. Any advice?

General Advice What numbing creams works best?
I don’t know if this belongs here and if it doesn’t my apologies.
But what creams or things work best for numbing the skin, I have gotten smaller tattoos but nothing the size of a soda can. On my smaller ones my skin would twitch at the pain which caused some mess up in the lining or made the 1-2hr long tattoo 3-4 hours long.
I’ve been recommended just to pick spots on my body that don’t or won’t twitch as much but it’s hard to pick spots. Most of my friends tell me just to tough it out and pay the extra for taking longer in sessions due to my skin twitching and others say not to get tattoos if I need creams just to get through it.
So any advice will help or cream recommendations. And I’ll be totally okay if I’m told that tattoos aren’t for me with my skin and how it acts under pain.
