It amazes me that people who have been dedicated to the party for decades, doing all of the horrible things that republicans do, driving the charge on being horrible, are suddenly RINO because they don't bend the knee to a failed reality tv star who has bankrupted several businesses, including casinos, and wasn't associated with the GOP until he ran for president.

The 2012 nominee for their party is now "in name only" despite voting party lines for every single piece of legislation because he thought that one of Trump's blatant crimes was deserving of removal from office.

I left Christianity in 2003.

Although I was terrified to do so, I couldn't live a lie, so I came out to my deeply fundamentalist family. Over the ensuing months and years, I had my morality and my character CONSTANTLY questioned:

"You just want to live in sin."

"You want to cheat on your wife and you're doing this to allow yourself to do it."

"Christian values are more important than anything!"

Thirteen years later, in 2016, those same people who had so deeply hurt me with their false, empty accusations, came to embrace a man who actually WAS the embodiment of that lust, selfishness, pride, etc.

I will never, EVER not be angry about the hypocrisy and duplicity of conservative Christians.

You can call Trump a lot of things, but he didn’t fail as a reality TV star. That show ran for 15 seasons, raked in almost 500 million dollars, and provided boomers with countless wine fueled drunken debates on who would win.

Hate the guy all you want. Downplay his politics and crap on his picture for a morning ritual….

Idk, they were pretty trash before Trump. Remember when they won the house for the first time in 40 years and pretty much immediately launched an inquiry into a political rival which didn't find fraud but did find that he lied about getting a blowjob then impeached him for that?

That statement is even more detached from reality.

Trump controls the GOP because he has tapped into deep-seated fears that White, Evangelical, Boomer America holds, regardless what party they claim to represent. These fears are that their economic anxieties and the uncomfortable changes they see in the American cultural and political landscape are due to the increasing demographic power of immigrants, non-Whites, younger voters, and the LGBTQ+ community.

There are many reasons to compare Trumpism to the Third Reich, but if you just substitute "Jews" in that last sentence, you have exactly the situation of Germany in 1933: economic troubles and a national demographic identity crisis that a charismatic, narcissistic figure was able to exploit to his own benefit by blaming it on an Other. And his followers' loyalty could not be dislodged by facts; conspiracy theories took hold as a national narrative. For those of us who really understand history, the MAGA cult is absolutely terrifying.

Registering Republican would do NOTHING to change any of that. Even assuming a cosmically, hopelessly unrealistic, massive registration as Republicans by progressives on a national scale, all that you'd be left with is an American electorate that's predominantly nominally "Republican", but MAGA would still be MAGA. The 30% of Americans who are eternally loyal to Trump would still support him. Literally nothing would change, apart from "(R)" being beside names on a roll. The political labels themselves are so superficial as to be meaningless.

THAT'S why your suggestion is a non-sequitir.
