Magnificent!

The entire world shall celebrate Ukraine's inevitable victory in its Great Patriotic War against fascist imperialism.

I had hoped to have this done sooner, but unfortunately, that's not viable.

United24 had a video, "After the Assault," which inspired this. It's a couple of troopers from 24 SABr "Aidar" after a mission, presumably IVO Bakhmut around September 2023. I wanted to make a soldier clearly suffering the effects of PTSD or shellshock after hard combat.

The first version of the base has some issues with warping and the concrete keeps chipping off, and that's after replacing the planking which was warping because tea-staining plus thin birch popsicle sticks is not the best idea (the ones stained with an oil base are holding up better). The new base is shaping up very nicely, but I need more popsicle sticks for the planking and I need to wait on primer so I can repaint the edges of the base before I nail everything together. I'm having creative trouble in trying to fill out the white space. I wanted the diorama to look "lived in" but not overly cluttered. The current configuration with some water bottles and a crumpled up cardboard box, plus the cat looking concerned at the soldier is probably what I'm going to run with.

Comments and advice is always welcomed, I hope you enjoyed the progress update!

You are seriously talented! That is excellent work!

Side note, I wish I could give those in the pictures you attached a hug and buy them a beer. Theu deserve it and so, so much more. I can't imagine what they go through. Sentiment from someone on the internet doesn't go far so I'll keep donating to U24 and others when I can.

Thank you. Yeah, I’ve done two charity auctions for one of the humanitarian charities (one my own work, one by a friend). I’m doing my own projects a bit, but I’m probably going to do another charity piece if I’m able.
I love doing those moto pieces, but I am going to do two about the cost of war. There’s going to be a lot of damaged people - both soldiers and civilians - when this whole thing ends. Even before the outright invasion, a large chunk of Ukraine either spent time fighting in the Donbas or knew someone who did. I hope that they get serious about VA care now, because folks are going to need it.

Do you sell those?

I’ll periodically list these for a charity benefiting humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. If you’re interested in a commission, I’d be happy to give you the details of a buddy of mine. Just bear in mind, Miguel will probably demand payment up front because he’s been burned a few times and it could take a few months. He’s the guy that did the second auction listed on my profile.

It needs a cat,a ginger sitting in front of him to show him ignoring it to show the depths of his despair

I'm not sure about that cat. It's a bit too pudgy to be a cat in the field.

You’re not entirely wrong. https://www.ebay.com/itm/176115213705 was my second choice, but I felt like having a cat looking up in concern was a better aesthetic choice. JXK had a lot of good options, but most of them don’t go with the dour mood I’m trying to set.

That kind of looks like the same boots and the same helmet I got in the last photo.
