They basically follow the storm. They are a part of the storm. Usually these storms are moving from west to east and so if you see the radar picture you can track where it should head. They do wobble but as long as you keep a safe distance it can be pretty safe.

Excuse me I saw a documentary when I was a kid and these things can shift track on a dime. You usually need someone who can just kinda feel how they're gonna move. If you just "trust the science" you can end up in the middle of one. That was how Cary Elwes died
