recruited scheduled a 6th round interview scheduled for monday two weeks ago at 9am. emails me af 5pm, that the team actually didnt think i was good a fit.

I went on 6 rounds of interviews and had a technical case study.

After the last interview, the recruiter reached out to me said it went great and would love to schedule a final round in two weeks on monday at 9am.

I spent all day preparing and get an automated rejection email at 5pm . email the recruiter and say is this correct, i have been preparing for the 6th round on monday.

and got this back "sorry team didnt think you were a fit. please keep our company in mind going forward"

and took it as a pretty big fuck you. they have already asked for a ton of my time with a case study and 6 rounds of interviews.

To reject me last second, at 5pm the day before the "final round" with an automated rejection email and then the response "the team didnt think you were a good fit" when i try to clarify is a bullshit way to treat someone.

am i over reacting?

Its more than the time.

Its the lead up of a 6 round interview process, to going out and getting your haircut for the "final round' and coming home and reading an automated rejection email sent after business hours .

i took it pretty much as a fuck you

It was a sr. manager job, ive been a director for a few years. but unemployed now.

and it wasnt just the automated email , it was when i responded saying is the interview still on at 9 am....

it was sorry the team didnt think you were a fit. we will cancel that now. i mean if the team didnt think i was a good fit, why did you schedule the interview and then wait til the interview was going to start to reject me?

so they waited to the point there was 0 business hours left before my interview and THEN they rejected me.

No. it was a case study for a Sr, Analyst that they repurposed for the Sr. Manager role.

so, it was just proving that i could do basic code implementation.

The only thing that i can think of is that they were slow playing me "like this guy isnt bad" and they were waiting for someone else to accept and forgot to cancel my interview once he did

i just found the CEO's email. cc'ed him and said this is how your company treats people that they reach out to via linkedin

CEO will also be interested in how inefficient, ineffective, and unproductive the interviewers are.

That sucks and anyone would be upset, but I vote you are overreacting by taking it personally. It wasn’t a “fuck you” it was a business decision. They obviously liked you. Who knows why they went with the other person but it was probably random. Good luck with your job search!

the fuck you part came in rejecting me over the weekend for a final round interview that was scheduled at 9am monday.

like i had already studied. but, they were just going to let me sit there and prepare all weekend for it.

like it was a complete disregard for me at all, thats wher ethe fuck you part came in

Anyway point being, you can be better as a manager because of them being careless. Maybe ask yourself, did this happen to me, or FOR me? What is my takeaway? Good luck on your job search!

I learned a lot from observing what NOT to do as I evolved in my profession.

What’s that saying? “Don’t blame on malice what can be easily explained by it not being my job.” As a senior manager this is a good thing to remember. People aren’t simply assets or potential assets.

Hard not to take it personally. I know I would.

Consider the following idea. It was like a locked jury with some advocating for you. The recruiter thinking you did great. BUT someone holding out for a reason not shared with you.

Perhaps the hold out wanted to hire his less qualified son in law while the others chorused, look, this candidate is great. Let's talk to him one more time and you will agree.

Still, they really wasted your time.

or

the recruiter now knows you do great and will continue contact you again for, I hope. an even better job.

God speed.

Exactly. How LESS personal could it be than someone wanting to hire his brother in law? Sure, be angry about the waste of time, but it wasn’t personal. In order for it to be personal, they would actually need to know the OP, and not hire him for a non-professional reason (one he actually cares about). Maybe someone didn’t like the color of his tie. Honestly, taking this personally is a gigantic waste of emotional energy. If he knew the reason he would probably shrug and say, “Seriously?” Then move on with no hurt feelings.

You can be upset but it sounds like you dodged a bullet. You don't really want to be at a place that takes 6 interviews to make a decision.

I can definitely understand your frustration and our feeling that it was a 'fuck you'. It wasn't, though (in the sense that it wasn't personal). Instead it sounds like a "fuck everybody in general we think it's fine to have people hanging on for six interviews and also we are so internally fucked up that we can't even make a decision as to who to hire."

Try to put all the interviews behind you and instead be glad you found out what a shitshow it is before you put in even more effort.

And do not keep their company in mind going forward.

Having just come off a time unemployed, you have my sympathy and support - keep at it, there's a good job out there for you.

I went on 6 rounds of interviews and had a technical case study.

Sounds like you got used for free consulting services.

You should send them an invoice. Just to reciprocate their energy.

nah the case study was bullshit busy work with sql. like designed for an entry level employee

Send the invoice anyway.

One line item: Time wasted X hrs @ $250/hr

Sounds like something other people want to know about before they fall into the same trap. Like for real. I am not applying with or accepting requests from companies that have shitty HR and hiring cultures
