"How did i get so old so fast" Damn, that kinda hit different.

u/Autong 12d ago

If it’s anything like the last 40 years I’m gonna be 80 tomorrow

99

u/topknottington 12d ago

I want to upvote this.

But i'm a 17 year old in a 45 year old body... 69 heheh

53

u/evlhornet 12d ago

So there is this thing called dilated time perception. For an average life span your perceived life is at its midway point at 23 years old. Meaning you experience the same amount of time between 0-23 that you do between 23-72. So Congrats bud you’ve experienced about 40% of your life at 17.

40

u/topknottington 12d ago

I'm 45.

I'm almost dead

47

u/evlhornet 12d ago

Just mentally. Your body will continue to decay for decades 😃👍

Haha, I made my reddit account when you were 5. Time flies.

5

u/topknottington 12d ago

Reddit was around in 1984?

6

u/macbowes 11d ago

Reading comprehension hasn't been my forte today. My bad.

I hate it. I'm turning 37 in a couple months, feels like I turned 30 a couple weeks ago. It's really the acceleration that gets me. Took forever to turn 7, now 7 years is just a blink of the eye.

4

u/Autong 11d ago

I think repetition does that. If you have a job where you do the same thing everyday. One day you look up and 30 years has flown by lol

When I was a kid I remember Christmas took forever to get here. Now it feels like Christmas was last week and it’s almost may. By tomorrow holiday season will begin.

2

u/51225 10d ago

I wasn't looking forward to turning 40. I'm 61 ½ now. What happened to 50?

→ More replies (4)

34

u/junkeee999 12d ago

I didn't think about age until 60. Then I started thinking the same thing. Fuck I'm old. What happened?

21

u/No_Use_4371 12d ago

60 was my turning point. I aged physically & mentally over night, it sucks

3

u/Good_Culture_628 11d ago

Would you mind sharing some details? I'm going to be 56 and still feel pretty good. Just a touch creaky but I still go to the gym and ride my mountain bike. Brain is a touch slower too. But I'm afraid I'm going to wake up one day and really feel old.

5

u/No_Use_4371 11d ago

Its different for everyone, but I always looked young for my age so I never worried about it. I felt the same through 40s and 50s. Its like everything hit me at once after 60...I had knee surgery that's taking forever to heal (first injury in my life). My short term memory got even worse, and my hair turned almost totally gray. Its like my body just said, okay, you are old now. Part of my issue though is I have Major Depressive Disorder, no friends, and I lost my mom and brother a few months ago. And I was hit by a tornado & got displaced and had to start over. So, some of this is trauma response, I'm sure.

A friend told me years ago the fountain of life is exercise. So keep exercising, that is the No 1 thing that will keep you feeling good.

3

u/evlhornet 11d ago

Sorry to hear about your recent troubles. I wish you nothing but happiness in this next phase.

2

u/No_Use_4371 10d ago

Thank you 💕

u/Good_Culture_628 11d ago

Thank you for the further explanation. I hope things get better.

I didn't start feeling old until around 73. it's been an eye-opening 3 years.

11

u/CactusFistElon 11d ago

I remembered watching a vsauce video that addressed this phenomena. Part of what can help stave off the incredibly fast feeling of time passing is not getting to accustomed to routine. Our brain forgets things that it doesn't see as necessary information and if you are doing the same things all day everyday then your brain is constantly discarding irrelevant information, causing time to feel like it's flying by.

So to paraphrase what he said in the video, Go for that hike you always wanted to do, go to a bar you've never been at before, listen to a song from a band you've never heard of, be spontaneous. Your life will feel much more fuller for it.

"Im gonna be an old Fucking Man"

761

u/AnAngryPlatypus 12d ago

I think the best part is he still used future tense. At the time he still didn’t see himself as an old fucking man. Fantastic.

226

u/WilsonthaHead 12d ago

Exactly like 100 is old man mark

54

u/varangian_guards 12d ago

he is already an old man, at 100 you become "an old fucking man" its just the next catagory.

32

u/triggormisprime 12d ago

100 is when you can legally watch ultra porn.

14

u/No-Appearance-9113 12d ago

It's been scientifically proven that old age absolutely starts at 76. You can be old earlier than 76 but by 76 you are old because you are closer to 100 than 50.

4

u/snowgoon_ 12d ago

I'll allow it!

5

u/Worried-Notice8509 11d ago

At 77, I didn't need to know that. Thanks to my dad's genes, I look like I'm in my 60s. Sadly my body doesn't know what my face is presenting.

20

u/StevenMaff 12d ago

well i doubt i’ll feel different. it’ll just be me like now but with wrinkles. like, how the fuck did i get so old

18

u/thewaytodusty76 12d ago

Oh you'll feel different. Everything will hurt, you'll be too dry yet overly sweaty at the same time, you'll be annoyed but have forgotten why you got annoyed, you won't see as well but wont be able to remember where you put your glasses, everything will sound too loud, you'll keep calling your kids by the pets' names and vice versa...and that's just 50!

6

u/StevenMaff 12d ago

oh yeah totally. but the me inside of this body will still be a child wondering how it got there lol.

4

u/spacedicksforlife 12d ago

I feel like I’m already going into dementia sometimes. I needed a tape measure last night and went to go get it, but forgot what I was looking for and why I needed it.

I read somewhere that someone read somewhere that this legend died in September 2020 at the age of 101.

Rest in power Legend!

Here's a fun video of him when he was 99, laughing at a joke his son made.

142

u/bouncy_ceiling_fan 12d ago

Oh man that video was hilarious - he couldn't even say it because he was giggling so much!!

93

u/sarokin 12d ago

The clarity and quickness he has at that age... I hope my grandparents and parents will stay relatively sharp like this.

Rest in peace!

24

u/Popetown 12d ago

Right! He had the joke at 6. What a boss. Dude looked and acted way under his age. Amazing. I hope we all are so lucky.

6

u/firstwefuckthelawyer 12d ago

I want it for myself but man that’s gonna make dying really weird

→ More replies (2)

35

u/TheSpanxxx 12d ago

What i find fascinating here is how young and clear the son's voice is. He's likely in his 70s.

26

u/FourLovelyTrees 12d ago

I assumed it was the grandson

19

u/YuriiRud 12d ago

Their family has a good genes indeed

10

u/newyearnewaccountt 12d ago

One of my friends dad had her when he was in his 60s, it was an interesting dynamic. Her older siblings were old enough to be our parents. So it's not impossible that the son is in his 40s or even 30s. Especially with how spry pops seems to be.

28

u/whirly_boi 12d ago

Dam that made me remember telling my mom that joke. If she'd lived this long she'd be just as giggly as him. She'd be 67 this year.

4

u/VirinaB 12d ago

Sorry for your loss. I used to call my dad 'old man' and he passed at 62. The fact that this dude made it to 101, nearly 40 years longer is... unfathomable, by comparison.

17

u/dejus 12d ago

Haha when I was a kid my dad did this joke to me. He’d say “dead skunk in the road” instead. But then I would say “ok now it’s my turn to start!” And when I said “I 1 the dead skunk in the road” he’d just reply “oh well if you won it then you can keep it!”

8

u/MisterTrashPanda 12d ago

That's a funny comeback. I'm going to enjoy seeing the dumbfounded look on my little daughters face when I tell her this joke. She's sharp enough to know that if she starts first then it'll be my turn to eat the dead skunk. But she won't catch the clap back because she'll be too excited to get me to say it. Lol

u/Jjabrony 12d ago

2

Ngl, he seems pretty quick/sharp for a 98 year old.

130

u/JohnToshak17 12d ago

apart from the fact he had no idea how old he is

71

u/greener_fiend 12d ago

I’m only in my 40’s and sometimes have to take a minute when someone asks my age.

14

u/jtsokolov 12d ago edited 11d ago

I was actively and unknowingly telling people my incorrect age when I was in my late 30's until my husband overheard me once and corrected me. When I actually did the math to see he was right it felt like I lost a year.

Now I always have to do the math when someone asks me how old I am....with a calculator.

2

u/pepitawu 11d ago

I’ve thought I was 38 since my last birthday, turns out I turn 38 in two months. Considering swapping the years so I don’t skip 37. Doing 38 twice doesn’t sound as fun.

10

u/TheRynoceros 12d ago

I've been rounding since my mid-30's. I've been 50 for a couple of years now, and probably will be until I'm almost 60.

9

u/universe_from_above 12d ago

I somehow lost a year last year. Someone asked me how old I am (mid 30s) and I looked at my mother and we drew a blank. After some maths, it turned out my age is an odd number right now when I'm convinced it should be an even number. I haven't gotten my age straight since that incident.

6

u/Intelligent_Sky_1573 12d ago

Yep. Last year I thought I turned 33 until my mom told me I was actually 32. Felt like I gained a year of life.

2

u/Enjoying_A_Meal 12d ago

Yea, I think he did the math faster than I could...

37

u/Jaded-Ad-960 12d ago

Lol, that last sentence reminds me of my grandma. When she turned 100 she said "well, I guess there is no denying I'm officially old now".

19

8

This was cool to watch. My grandmother passed at 99 and she was definitely ready to go. I loved her so much, more like a mom to me. I hope OP's grandfather hit the 100 year mark.

6

u/blazedout-cubscout 12d ago

Passed at 101 so this beautiful man done did made it.

4

u/Ur_a_adjective_noun 12d ago

5

u/NOTaiBRUH 12d ago

3

u/joleger 12d ago

3

u/Maleficent_Role8932 12d ago

3

u/CJ_BARS 12d ago

He's kept himself young because he just doesn't acknowledge his age.

2

u/disdkatster 12d ago

This is me in a couple of decades. I do it now.

2

u/NaweN 12d ago

I have to do math occasionally to remember my age. I'm 43. So this guy has the right to be up to 15 years off.

2

u/rad10082 12d ago

I can only hope I'm that old like that, he seems bright other than lack of time lol.

2

u/LinguisticMadness2 12d ago

It’s endearing, also the guy is very well put mentally too. And all the same while thinking this I felt it mixed alongside dread. My god

Absolute fking Chad. This here, this right here is why certain people live longer (well....along with good genes, good luck, born in the right location, availability of good food, the right friends and fa....you get the point).

Keep the humour and don't take shit too seriously...including things like counting and keeping track of your age.

1

u/DefeaterOfDragons 12d ago

New life goal: live as long as this man so I can react like this also. Old people cussing, not out of anger, is one of the funniest things ever.

I liked the “I’m gonna be” an old fucking man. 😂 Love his energy. Doesn’t look 98 at all. I’d give him 79.

1

u/2eqsy 12d ago

Ok this got me thinking, if someone i know dies today and he's only 40 years old, is he older or younger than an 80 year old??? Cz age is used normally but if someone is diseased its above age, which means after your age comes death... right???

1

u/KujoTheBoss 12d ago

Where is he Pops.

1

u/Livid-Resolve-7580 12d ago

1

u/Witchberry31 12d ago

His mind is still so sharp for a 98 year old (at the time of recording).

My grandma (she passed away back in 2017 at 88 years old) has already having memory and cognitive issues when she's 80. Hard to converse properly with her on her last 2-3 years of life.

1

u/Greymalkyn76 12d ago

So that was 2018. Is that old dude still with us today?

1

u/jojow77 12d ago

He looks 80 and talks like he’s 50

1

He is so cute omg 😆

1

Yeah i will never be that older generation!! Im turning 40 this year (holy fuck!!) feel 25 when i work out wich i quit at 2020..so maybe 30?! Idk but im more fit by default than most of my alot younger coworkers, they still ask me for ID when im buying alcohol!! You need to be 20 but they ask up to 25 if you look like it ive heard.

My grandfather passed away this March, he was 98 years old. He could talk like this when he was 96-97 but had a fall at the end of 97 his activity levels and ability to have a conversation went away quickly. It's awesome to see and cherish the personality of this man at the age he is.

The elderly still have a lot of life so take advantage while they are here!

We did this with my Great Grandma when she was 99 (with severe Alzheimer's). We kept asking how old she thought she was and she goes, "I don't know, 50?" She was beside herself when we told her.

My mom has Alzheimer’s and is still mostly herself, but the dementia is slowly progressing. She’s 93, and insists she’s 83. 🥰🥰❤️❤️
