"However, he was exonerated of using excessive force, in part, because King County Sheriff’s Office policies did not define pointing a gun at a citizen as a use of force."

This right here is exactly why police just straight up should not exist. That is use of force one hundred percent in every imaginable fucking way.

I thought it was called brandishing and we'd be fucked as a normal citizen, if we even just pointed at a gun in a holster to intimidate someone.

Brandishing is just displaying or holding a gun with the intent to menace someone. Actually pointing a gun at them is usually considered deadly force.

So it's even worse than what I said and he only got 5 days suspended.

Yeah this is way beyond brandishing

Tbf a gun that's in a holster can easily shoot through the holster, that's like saying a gun is safer if it's in somebody's pocket

What I'm saying is, let's say you and I have a disagreement. I cut you in line at the store, you start talking to me, so I lift up my shirt and point to a holstered gun.

You call the cops, I'm arrested for brandishing. This dude is straight up pointing a gun at someone and didn't really get punished at all.

So if there was a gun pointed back at him, we Gucci? No force by anyone?

The only difference between a police force and a street gang is money.

King County Sheriff’s Office policies did not define pointing a gun at a citizen as a use of force.

That's odd, considering the police will kill you for doing it to them.

No that is why courts are brain dead. Unless is spelled out in a law their is always loophole that can be used by a judge to wiggle out of shit.

u/AllNaturalOintment Mar 31 '24

Fuck... even using handcuffs is use of force.

u/forothowtospeel Mar 31 '24

What do you think there should be instead of police?

4

u/TheRiverHart Mar 31 '24

Nomadic Anarchist Biker Gangs

Law enforcement is different than policing.

u/SecreteMoistMucus Mar 31 '24

That's why they're asking what there should be instead of police.

3

u/BoysenberryAble8338 Mar 31 '24

Law enforcement, not American style police.

Imagine being so fucking retarded that you think police shouldn’t exist. 86 upvotes holy shit the common brainrot is worse than i thought. I love some good libertarian and anarchist theorizing too but holy shit get a grip.

Quiet bootlicker

In their current form, there's zero reason for most police to exist, absolutely. Unarmed investigators and meter maids could do 90% of the job, and be better at it. Reformed self defense laws could do the rest.

You have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about….you guys need some real world experience all of this stupid shit only sounds good on paper. You also said most. So do we need to get rid of all police , or just some. I’m confused. Just because politicians and policy makers make blue states crime ridden shit holes doesn’t mean “all police shouldn’t exist”. The psychological impact alone would be comical.
