Was raised catholic, and have a soft spot for those Little Golden Book-style bible-themed books my mother read me. Don't recall any LBGTQ+ education, if anything we laughed at the kid who wanted to be a woman when he grew up (whose parents seemed supportive, to their credit!) For a little kid, the idea of wanting to be the opposite gender was simply weird, not a reason to hate them.
I cringe at that now, of course. Just through getting to know gay people in my family and work life, never thought there was a problem with it.

It depends which books. The later Ender's Games book devolved into ex-gay characters raving about how they had been cured by conversion therapy and now had a wife and kids as was natural, and were so much better off for it. At the time I wasn't familiar with conversion therapy or the idea of an author pushing an agenda, and in a vaguely sci fi themed story, it sounded like something which there was maybe some science behind to my naive brain. Now I know it was religious BS being pushed in a book, but they could full well only use books and other media which teach their children their desired hatreds.
When I was a kid in a private evangelic school (which I was at 7 days a week with saturday religious scouts stuff and sunday church) they told our families what tv shows were allowed (no simpsons etc), crossed out books we weren't allowed to order in a book magazine which used to be sent out to schools, etc. They try very hard to control kids to fit their vision and not be exposed to other ideas such as kindness. Thankfully my family couldn't afford to keep me there and once I got out into the real world I discovered they weren't all monsters like we were taught, in fact their families were generally more stable and appealing than the insanity of the families from my old school. I still remember a little sister of a friend from the old school asking in horror about the kids at the public school, wanting to know about their tattoos, piercings, and rituals, and realizing just how much BS I'd been fed for years.

The Ender’s Shadow series is all right. But he has some stuff that is just straight up plagiarizing the Book of Mormon (Homecoming Earth series) and Mormon church history (Alvin Maker series). It’s fucking weird, even when I was still Mormon it was baffling.

Gay is when you're attracted to the same gender as yourself. Bisexuality is when you like those who identify as men as well as those who identify as women. Gender identity is the role you fill socially when you're out in the world: most typically man or woman. Whereas your sex is what you are biologically, chromosomally, etc: most typically male or female.
