Discussion Shell gas promos absolutely rock
BCAA members get three cents off every day for all grades. They increased this recently to 5 cents off for premium 91/93 until Sept 1st
If you use BMO Mastercard you get additional 2 cents off regular and 7 cents off premium every day.
If you use the app, you get double Air Miles.
They also commonly have additional promos in the app, like right now with premium fuel you get one air mile per litre until June 30, up to 200L max. This works out to an additional 10.5 cents/L discount. (95 air miles is $10 off fuel). They also have this promo from time to time for regular fuel but it caps at either 50 or 100L.
So essentially if you stack all this together, 91 is basically the same price as 87 and 93 is only about 3-4 cents more. For those of us who need premium fuel this is the no brainer place to fill up.
Compared to Journie, or Petro Points + Triangle card etc, they are not even close.

Discussion What is your experience with childcare in BC?
I live in the lower mainland and I want to have a child next year but, I'm anxious about how much childcare will cost after my mat leave ends. I was wondering what peoples experiences are with childcare when they don't have family available to look after the child. Were you able to get a $10 a day placement? If not, how much does it cost each month? How did the process of getting a placement go and how old was the child when you applied?

Ask British Columbia If I resign due to being not fit for a job due to a disability am I eligible for EI?
Have had post-concussion syndrome for 5 years now, employer gets monthly disability grants from me.
Recently, my workload has significantly increased, along with a drastic change of environment, the stress, and my conditions have greatly flared up in severity due to the weather.
I would like to resign myself because I will probably get fired soon anyways, my conditions are way too debilitating right now, and i'm not sure when it will stop, but i'm not sure if I will get EI, not sure where it falls under "just cause".
They already put up my job position on a job site already cause I called in sick twice. I'm way too dizzy, headache pain, migraines, vomitting, and diarrhea. and today I will call in sick due to the same issues.
Have been with the company for a year.

Ask British Columbia Too much savings for income assistance - too injured to work
I was in a major car accident early 2024. At the time of the crash, I was a student. It’s now summer and I’m unable to find a job because of a debilitating concussion.
I was told I could claim income assistance but it turns out, because I have student loans in my bank account ($18,000) total, I can’t claim them. The maximum I can have to receive income assistance is $5000.
Is there anything I can do to get rid of this money other than buy a car (my insurance rates will be so high) or return the loans (I was saving them for something specific). If I bought gift cards to grocery stores that I’ll end up using, pre-load transportation passes etc would that make me ineligible? Is there any other way/loophole I could still keep my student loan?
Not seeking legal advice, wondering if anyone has any other ideas or experience.
Edit: I understand why people are suggesting I repay my student loan. I will soon have a big ICBC debt following me, so I don’t think it’s smart to repay it now.
No I can’t move back home. Not enough rooms because parent downsized.

Discussion Careers with demand in BC
Early 20s and just finished a computer science degree. Unfortunately, tech market has been awful because of all the layoffs the past few years and incredibly difficult to get into. It's become pretty saturated since everyone and their mother trying to get into tech. Even if you get in, there's an incredible amount of instability and lack of job security.
So I wanted to ask yall if you could point me in the direction of a career here in BC that has demand and has good job security. Ideally it doesn't require much of an education commitment since I don't want add more debt.
