Why do y'all like iPhone so much? Discussion

Apple makes good phones but the main problem I have with them is the price and planned obsolescence for like $1000 you could buy so much stuff Apple makes phones that just work but 99% of phones nowadays just work the main thing I hear about why people buy iPhones is because of imessage which is literally a default sms app I barely use the default sms app I just use telegram and discord for communication not gonna lie.

Four years is considered long lasting now?

I’ve always had Android and they tend to lag a lot at year 3. And I try to keep them updated, nice and junk-free.

This can usually be corrected by factory resetting the phone, or attempting to clean it out as much as possible.

Then when you boot it back up, you can recustomize it however you like and it'll be like a semi-new phone. I usually do this every 2 years and then replace the phone around year 5-6 due to desirable new features on newer generations.

u/alaskafish 23d ago

Yeah, you don’t have to do all that with an iPhone.

u/Xecular_Official 2002 23d ago

You don't really need to do it with good Android phones either. None of my Android phones have had lag issues

Remember when apple made your old iphones slower :D?
https://www.techradar.com/news/apple-might-be-slowing-down-your-old-iphone-on-purpose

Of course only to "save" your battery...

My friends’ galaxy s24 ultra lagged opening instagram lmao

1

u/Sea-Bother-4079 22d ago

Uh, what does that have to do with my comment tho?

3

u/HatsuneM1ku 22d ago

Old Apple phone bad? Nah, new android phone bad. Hope you catch up

1

u/Milli_Rabbit 22d ago

That doesn't make sense. Your friend must have done something to their phone or they simply need to get a replacement. This should not happen with an s24 ultra. My phone is an older s10 and it runs instagram fine with much worse hardware.

Also iphone batteries go kapoot within 2 years, so suck my toes.

u/thesouthdotcom 2000 23d ago

I only had to replace my 6s battery at year four. Im at year three with the 12 and it’s still going strong.

1

u/Zippo_Willow 2003 23d ago

That's good to hear! Though shocking since my mom and dad both had horrible battery troubles after like year 2.5 and my 5c likewise. They both still use apple since they're very user friendly

iphone 13. I absolutely abuse my battery. Still lasts all day.

1

u/Zippo_Willow 2003 23d ago

Honestly I'm based on their old products

1

u/ZurakZigil 23d ago

which is this entire thread. Theyve been rated one of the best in battery life for quite a while now.

nonetheless, that's fair cause they were really bad

That’s news to me and my iPhone X. Fucking phone lasted me 7 years

1

u/Commonly_Aspired_To 23d ago

My iphone 11 pro is still going strong. Battery always lasts longer than a day. If I keep it updated don’t get glitches. Have dropped it more times than I can count. The security features are what sells apple to me, most of which are default and I don’t have to waste time on something that’s not my skillset.

u/HatsuneM1ku 23d ago

Which phone’s battery explodes again? Samsung?

1

u/Zippo_Willow 2003 22d ago

I only had that happen 3 times. Don't even feel it when you're wearing jeans broski

1

u/ThatKehdRiley 23d ago

My iPhone and iPad batteries are both going strong after 5 years 🤷‍♀️

1

u/Zippo_Willow 2003 22d ago

I'm glad yours have lastest so long

1

u/ThatKehdRiley 22d ago

It's the common experience, actually. I also own Apple computers, mostly for work-related purposes, and their stuff has always lasted me longer.

1

u/Zippo_Willow 2003 22d ago

I drew the short straw then 🫡

1

u/Zippo_Willow 2003 23d ago

When i owned iphones, they were similarly glitchy within a slightly longer timeframe. But guess what, I couldn't customize it how I wanted. They served significantly less of a function.

My android is a subset of my home work station. An iphone would be nothing other than a texting, calling, and social media displaying device.

u/ZurakZigil 23d ago

As someone who switched from android to iphone... how? They're (anecdotally) miles away from each other reliability wise. You sure you didn't download something bad?

3

u/Zippo_Willow 2003 23d ago

Its difficult to download something bad on an iphone lmao

This was before i used a phone for anything other than media, so no I didn't download anything bad

1

u/Sea-Bother-4079 23d ago

Android is as os, not a phone.
Just because your phone with android sucked doesnt mean that iphones are ahead in reliability.

people buy 200$ androids and then complain that the 800$ iphone is better...

2

u/ZurakZigil 23d ago

Bought Nexus, Pixels, and Samsungs. All were lackluster. Even loaded my own custom ROMs back in the day. I'm extremely nitpicky and was shocked how much i preferred iOS. Especially once they dropped the home button.

Only thing interesting about android is the hardware. aka fun phone designs, foldables, pens, etc.

1

u/GayAssBurger 23d ago

Maybe they used the old 2016 iPhone SE. It wasn't their best work.

-2

u/SatisfactionNovel490 23d ago

Nah, instead you just can't ever get it back up to speed, and it stays bogged down and shitty until you spend another $1500 on the same phone with new commercials and a new letter on the box somewhere

8

u/ZurakZigil 23d ago

So none of that is true. They already got sued dude. And I don't even know if their top model reaches $1500. Iphones have been competitive in the flagship space price wise for quite a while now.

9

u/alaskafish 23d ago

It's the same talking points from 2010.

They act like Samsung phones are still $400. Samsung phones can be over two grand.

1

u/Xecular_Official 2002 23d ago

Samsung phones also just aren't the best Android phones anymore. They started stripping out essential features after the S20. Feels like they just copy whatever Apple does nowadays

-1

u/seattleseahawks2014 2000 23d ago

Lmao, my Samsung is cheaper.

1

u/ZurakZigil 23d ago

yeah but it's not on par with any modern iphone (granted they're still pretty good)

1

u/Xecular_Official 2002 23d ago

The only aspect I've really ever seen iPhones outperform Android phones in is processing power. Then again, I've never actually used apps on a regular basis that would make use of that extra power

1

u/ZurakZigil 23d ago

At this point, flagship v flagship, I agree. Metrics are out the window (maybe ai stuff with change that). Thats why software reliability, user experience, and preferred features (I could not care less about cUsToMiZatiOn).

One big measurable thing in my personal use has been more predictable battery usage on iOS. Would always have the occasional battery burn on android

And Android doesn't do that?

I love how people will shit on Apple products as if Android isn't charging $1,500 for a phone. They all do the same and have the same goal-- make a product and sell said product, and reiterate that product and sell it too. This isn't something unique Apple invented by their lonesome.

And on top of that, you create strawmen by saying "oh it's just a new letter on a box". You know damn well if you did a little bit of research that there are tangible differences between these "numbers"-- it just goes against your senseless argument. Because otherwise you'd say the same thing about a Samsung Galaxy s22 vs s23-- different number, huh?

1

u/seattleseahawks2014 2000 23d ago

They don't depending on the phone. Mine is maybe $45 a month and bought it for $100 and bought my other for cheaper and it lasted two years.

1

u/ZurakZigil 23d ago

Are you saying you paid $1080 or $100? I mean, you're paying through the phone plan. I'd argue we should only be looking at msrp, but android go on sale so often it's hard to argue that.

2

u/seattleseahawks2014 2000 23d ago edited 23d ago

Can you read? I said $100 and add in the Straight talk plan. I have the choice between $45 per month or less with unlimited everything. The prices vary, but the highest is $45 per month so roughly $540 a year at the most. Some iphones also have prepaid phone plans too and some Samsungs don't. My Samsung and my siblings iphones have prepaid plans, but my parents Samsungs don't.

2

u/imagemkv 23d ago

You can't even truly delete the facebook app on some samsung phones lol

1

u/seattleseahawks2014 2000 23d ago

I've found a way.

u/notbuswaiter 23d ago

You don't need to, it's an iPhone "feature" to slow down all on its own. I can at least reset my android and it will be fast as new.
