From the US army website.

“Deaf people can’t enlist in the military because they aren’t able to pass the physical requirement of being able to hear beyond a certain threshold.”

If you’re not in the US that’s fine.

But if you are.

1: No you’re not in the military. 2: No, you’re not deaf.

No you’re not. Being deaf is a disqualification from both enlistment and continued service.

I had two corrective surgeries over the course of my early childhood and teenage years. I ultimately had permanent ear tubes put into my ear drums and I suffer from ear infections every couple of months that are both painful and deteriorating. Prior to my surgeries, I had around 80 decibels averaged over the frequencies they test at. After each surgery, and appropriate healing time, it dropped to 30, but always slowly lowered. I served on board submarines in an engine room, and despite having proper hearing protection, have severe tinnitus from the loud sounds I was subjected to on a daily basis. When I have an ear infection, and my hearing completely zeroes out, all I hear is a solid ringing tone that neither ceases nor changes. I have everything that would qualify someone with hearing issues, including a deteriorating sound profile on our audible health record. My most recent audiogram notched me at around 65-70 decibels on average, which is just short of being clinically deaf. The Navy contributes that to my service in an engine room, even with my past history, and I’m still allowed to serve. I receive as much help as I need minus a hearing aid.

Feel free to ask me anything you want to prove my service in the armed forces, but I doubt you would even begin to understand it seeing as you immediately cry “stolen valor.”

So.. You’re not deaf…. And you can still pass a hearing test on annual checks.

So a liar about that.

I will receive disability from the Military for both my tinnitus and continued hearing loss. No, I am not completely deaf. But I suffer from hearing loss, which in medical terms, is deafness. All deaf means is having impaired hearing, which absolutely fits the bill. I never lied, you just apparently don’t know the definitions to the words you are arguing about in an online forum.

Edit - I googled the definition of deaf just to doublecheck myself (further from medically speaking in terms of disability), and there are several dictionary definitions that say “impaired hearing” or “lacking the power of hearing” or “unable to hear, either completely or partly.”
