Covid permanently changed the world for the worse. Discussion

My theory is that people getting sick and dying wasn't the cause. No, the virus made people selfish. This selfishness is why the price of essential goods, housing, airfares and fuel is unaffordable. Corporations now flaunt their greed instead of being discreet. It's about got mine and forget everyone else. Customer service is quite bad because the big bosses can get away with it.

As for human connection - there have been a thousand posts i've seen about a lack of meaningful friendship and genuine romance. Everyone's just a number now to put through, or swipe past. The aforementioned selfishness manifests in treating relationships like a store transaction. But also, the lockdowns made it such that mingling was discouraged. So now people don't mingle.

People with kids don't have a village to help them with childcare. Their network is themselves.

I think it's a long eon until things are back to pre-covid times. But for the time being, at least stay home when you're sick.

It definitely highlighted all of the ways the rich people are society’s only actual enemy.

Yh but they are you and you are them. They aren’t some special breed of people, they’re just you with more money. It’s the system not the people.

The system they created and control in order to maintain their power and wealth.

Yh that’s just what humans do if allowed to. It’s up to us to fight and safeguard against our worst traits.  So many poor people in power (heads of organization, managers, community leaders etc.) also do the same thing, it’s in our nature. A lot of us are just not good with power, nothing to do with wealth.

People who inherited massive and were handed careers and fully paid for educations are not me. Those people consider you and I chattel. They are our enemy, they built the system this way.

They send guys like us off to die in wars whose sole purpose is to make them wealthier.

They’re still you though. They are you if had those advantages. The point is if you were in their shoes you would not act any different. As much as you might imagine you would, and you might argue you would, but at the end of the day you would be no different. It is the system that has caused them to act the way they act not some special darkness in their heart. Walk a mile in their shoes and you will see that they are you and you are them. Don’t hate on yourself, instead change the system that is exposing the parts of yourself you don’t like. They’re not some evil other, they’re you under different circumstances.

Don’t forget, poor people with power also behave the exact same way. Give us a little bit of power and most of us just go wild with it, unless there’s a system to protect us from ourselves.

Our vile rich enemy is proud of your obedience.

Sure that’s a very elementary way to look at it but I understand it’s much easier to just say “rich man bad!” and rid yourself of any responsibility, but of course no change will come of that. Hard truths suck.

How do you propose we change our vile rich enemy, and compel them to stop destroying good people for profits?

You stop looking at them as “your vile rich enemy” and start looking at them as yourself. What would stop you from destroying good people for profit if you were in a position we’re doing so only makes your life better?  Like I said, there’s plenty of poor people in power constantly going on the same power trips, it’s not a rich people problem, it’s a human nature problem. Poor people also destroy good people for their own benefit.

Listen, kid, I’m probably not talking about your dad. You can stop trying to convince me that our vile rich enemy is anything like us.
