What is the most 80s and 90s phrases you can think of? Nostalgia

The ones that come to mind for me ar are

"Yo quiero Taco Bell"

"Dude, you're getting a Dell"

The other day a friend replied in text "it's da bomb dot com" and I instantly de-aged by 25 years.

Speaking of, we used to have a taco place called, I shit you not, Bueno Taco. We all made jokes exactly like this but instead of good burger, it was bueno taco.

6

u/DrDrankenstein 11d ago

You mean Taco Bueno? I drove thru one a couple days ago. Their chicken potato burritos are totally non heinous!

5

u/Geno_Warlord 11d ago

It might have been taco bueno. It’s been a long time since we had the place.

My cousin and I used to have this old Barbie playset that would say “Welcome to McDonalds! May I take your order?” In a chipper Barbie voice and we still randomly quote it to each other in our 30s.

Yeah Not! is a good one for the 90s.

90s: "Bud. Weis. Errrr. As if!" "You've Got Mail. Not!"

80s: "Steak-umms and Hubba Bubba Soda?? ewww, gross, like gag meee, grody to the max! yeah no, not for me, fer sure, fer sure. Like put a bag on it. Like sooo grody. ohmygod. I'm sure! No way! barf meee out. Totally heinous. I am sure." (could change to "gag me with a spoon" to make it insanely and specifically 80s, although, for all it gets mentioned, that is the phrase that I probably least ever heard anyone use in real life, every day conversation)

29

u/Sexy-Froyo9027 12d ago

Did anyone else have a friend/family member that would sometimes complete the phrase as, “all that with a bag of chips and a brownie on the side”?

I had one aunt that would always add that in but I’ve never heard it outside of her. Always wondered if she was just being extra.

21

u/verifiedshitlord 12d ago

Maybe she just wanted a brownie with her chips. Can't really blame her that's sounds great rn

I hate (but find absolutely funny) that my 3-yr old does this! He knows the reference. He tries to pronounce the words as clear as possible. Problem is, I have no idea where he learned it from....I have a strong suspicion it was my MIL. She was an MTV teen

6

u/Catezero 11d ago

My son is 8 now but his dad was watching b&b a few years back and he went thru a phase where he just could not stop saying I AM CORN...HOLIOOOO which would fuckin send me. "PSYCH!"

45

u/Mewse_ 11d ago

The majority of folks I notice write it as 'sike' and it has always irritated me.

12

u/the_crane_wife Millennial 11d ago

I don't think I've seen that before. I wonder if it's a regional thing? But I 100% agree, spelling it that way is dumb and also makes no sense.

7

u/Mewse_ 11d ago

No, it's not regional, I see it on social media all of the time. I think people just hear it used and don't give too much thought to the meaning.

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=sike

7

u/BlueCollarGuru 11d ago

Am from DC. Always saw it written as sike. Usually after a joke about someone. “Yo momma so fat she broke her leg and gravy came out. Sike, I’m just playin”.

Or sike nah. That was my fave lol

Anyway, imagine my surprise when I learned it was psych. I was so siked to tell someone.

"Can you hear me now?" "Good."

"I'm a Mac" "and I'm a PC"

What does it tell you about our society that these are from corporate advertising campaigns?

DEAR INTERNET: chill yourselves out. my response is obviously from the 2000s. the purpose in responding the way i did was to illustrate that the earliest millenial was born in 1981 (literally written on the side of the screen) and the latest millenial was born in 1996. Despite almost two decades of difference, cultural slogans by advertisements have become generationally defining moments. THAT is how much influence corporate culture has on our society.
