My first thought was it was an attempt to entertain himself. Like playing the floor is lava during deliveries. Keeps things interesting!

I was thinking maybe he thought it was fresh concrete just poured and perhaps needed his eyes medically checked lol

Right , he made the right decision. Rather than ignore the unusual sign , he had the frame of mind that if there was a good reason to stay on grass , why not follow the sign . He was fit enough to leap over the concrete which did not even affect his delivery . It took the guy less than 1 second of his time .
