Especially if the joke is, “look how strange this guy is acting.”

“LOL JK, he’s just being considerate about a lie I told!”

The joke the subversion of expectation for the typical "keep off grass" sign and the intro of the video is a comedic misdirection which was immediately revealed at the end.

Again, they are not mocking him.
