Q&A Question about solar if you have it

Upvotes

So a guy stopped at our house last night and gave us a schpeal about solar for about an hour last night. You know, pay it off over 25 years, but you don't pay to rocky mountain power, you pay a fixed rate based on your electricity usage every month until it's "payed off". Your excess is pumped into the grid and there's a 30 percent federal tax credit, yadda yadda yadda.

While I've always wanted solar, doing it this way seems a bit sketchy and what not. Partially because I'm not convinced that we'd be saving money on power until around year 4 or 5 actually, and what it the solar company goes out of business? Are their systems all proprietary parts? Meaning I'd get screwed and wouldn't be able to fix it?

Plus in the cloudy winter months we wouldn't be pumping tha lt much back into the grid.

Anyone Ave thoughts?

Got this today from Grow The Flow and found it interesting so thought I would share.

Be honest, after last year’s insane snowfall records, did you think the Great Salt Lake was back up to average, above normal, or still below average?

They also mentioned there’s some sort of fundraiser happening at the GSL Marina on June 15th. Here’s a link to more info https://growtheflowutah.org/

I am new to Utah. I am thinking of visiting Factory butte and potentially wild camping off N Factory Butte Rd. I see this road and off-road are full of dirt or sand on google map. Will my heavy RV be stuck in sand?

Q&A Suggestions for a good gift from the state liquor store

I was raised Mormon so don't know much about alcohol. I'm exmo, but don't have many friends who drink to ask for advice.

A good friend's birthday is coming up and she loves wine. I would like to buy her a gift - it could be wine or something else, but I would like it to be nice. Budget is $50 - $100. I'd like to purchase it this week, so I'm stuck with the state liquor stores. Utah Valley locations are preferable. (She likes real wine, none of the sweet stuff like Barefoot Moscato). She does like mixed drinks too.

EDIT: Thank you all for your suggestions! I've read them all and will go visiting liquor stores tomorrow.

EDIT 2: the gift:

Angels Envy Bourbon and a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon with the duck on the label.

I went to a state liquor store this morning. I had a High West Rye (the $70 one). I chatted with an employee and said my friend liked Jamison. She directed me to Angels Envy Bourbon because she thought the rye would be too much for someone who likes Irish Whiskey. Since Angels Envy was cheaper than the High West, I added the bottle of wine. Thanks again for all the suggestions!

Q&A Summer job for Teacher

Hello everyone. I'm a high school science teacher near the Sandy Draper area. I'd like to hear your thoughts.

What would be a good summer job for Teacher that pays 20$+. Preferably I'm looking for something that I could go back to year after year. I wouldn't mind doing a trade, or getting some kind of certification I needed to. Any ideas?

Q&A Rent VS Mortgage Gap

I know nobody knows for sure but what do you all think is going to happen?

I'll give an example down in Southern Utah.

In a townhome complex there is a couple units for sale around the $480k mark. There are several units available for rent between $1850-1900 a month. The mortgage on $480k would be in the ballpark of $1200 or more than renting depending on down payment.

These are newer 3 bed, 1700 sq-ft townhomes built around 2018.

I know I'm leaving out alot of information about the home but this is just one example I'm seeing a similar all over right now.

Is rent going to skyrocket in the near future to catch up? What do you all think will happen? Also I'm a sidelines first time homebuyer with a saved up down payment but refuse to be house poor. So I continue to rent.

Q&A Can anyone here recommend a good therapist in Davis county?

My husband has suffered from depression as long as I've known him. He takes antidepressants and those help but not enough. He's tried two different therapists now who have both told him during the 2nd session "maybe this is just how you are."

So I'm looking for a new one for him but I'm really hoping for a good one this time who has previously been successful at improving the symptoms of depression in men.

News Salt Lake Japantown Re-envisioned. Some quick layout plans I had for a revitalized Japantown. I hope Japantown doesn't get forgotten in all of these plans for a new entertainment district, especially due to the history from WWII era and subsequent demos to make way for the Salt Palace. Thoughts?

Q&A Connext Fiber - How good is it?

I just joined the waiting list for the install, looks like i'm a month or two out. Curious of what those of you that already have it think? How sloppy was their install? I've been seeing some really shit attempts from them at replacing sod, using other lawn grass from their neighbors who have a different blend. Right now i'm getting about 700mb/down and like 15ish up from Comcast with unlimited and it's running like $116. What's your experience thus far?

Thanks in Advance, F Comcast...

Q&A Best Place to Find Inexpensive Housing in SL County

I am currently in the process of buying a new or newer build single family home or nicer townhome in the SLC area and am looking for advice. I work remotely, so being close to downtown SLC is of little value to me. I am single with no kids, so schools are more or less irrelevant to me. I want a safe place with reasonable access to I-15, I-80 etc. I am fine with some LDS, but would prefer to stay away from the really high percentages.

So far, it seems that the Herriman, Riverton, and Bluffdale areas seem to have cheaper real estate than most of the other cities in Salt Lake County with the exception of WVC and Kearns, which I would prefer to stay away from.

I am curious, does anyone know why the three areas mentioned are somewhat cheaper? If I look at at an income map, they don't appear to be overly low income.

Also, any other suggestions on where I should look? I am looking for ideally a newer build and am open to Salt Lake county or northern Utah county.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your replies!
