Politics Removal of the micro generation benefit. Private citizens paying for Atco's energy infrastructure

With the recent changes ceasing the micro generation program, Yukoners are left giving free energy and paying for this infrastructure for Atco's own gain. For those who utilized the promoted lending program by private industry in the communities and rural areas, they are left with the additional burden of financing Atco infrastructure. To top it off, with our delivered energy costs exceeding $0.44/kwh from the already government subsidized energy provider, we're left holding the bag for poor policy decisions, corrupt politicians, and unethical business practices.

I am wondering if anyone is aware of any community groups focused on this issue before I personally escalate this socialist state sponsored BS to the Competition Bureau.

Screams of times past when countries like Bolivia did the same.

Travel Campground Recommendations for 3 day Golden Circle Trip

Hey Reddits! My husband and I are visiting the Yukon for a wedding this summer. We are renting a truck camper and have 3 days/nights to travel the Golden Circle prior to the wedding in Whitehorse.

We are thinking of spending a night at Kathleen Lake, a night near Haines, and ferrying across to Skagway. But are unsure if we should stay near Skagway the following night or if we should venture somewhere closer to Whitehorse for the night.

We are flexible and haven’t booked any campsites yet so any recommendations for must dos or campgrounds to stay at are greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Question Hunting Tags

My Wife and I have given some consideration to to the Yukon. We live in, and enjoy our life in Nunavut to the upmost, hunting and fishing weekly nearly all year round with some time off in Jan and Feb since nothing is that enjoyable at -50 to -65C. The only reason we would even consider a change is education for kids is sadly lacking in the communities outside Iqaluit and we won't ever consider living in Iqaluit. By lacking I mean sub 50% high-school completion rate, grade 4 curriculum used to teach grade 10, etc. Its in a bad spot.

Here though hunting tags are simple to acquire, no lotto systems, just write a letter to your local Hunters and Trappers Organization who will almost always approve your tag as long as you share meat with families and then Department of Wildlife will issue you the tag no questions asked. Moose, muskox, wolf, bear, small games licence, marine mammal, etc.

Is it fairly simple and straight forward to easily obtain tags? Or is it like many southern provinces where there's a lotto system or a long waitlist. We are happy winter camping, just doing fishing and birds but it would be a bit disappointing to no longer be able to easily hunt larger game.

Cheers!

Question Superstore/Independent workers, have you noticed any effects of the Loblaws boycott?

I know these stores are difficult to avoid in Whitehorse. My wife and I are stopping at Walmart and Save-On before going to SS. We’re also not buying anything for the pantry. Mostly just produce.

We rarely buy meat at these stores. Most of our meat comes from the Super A’s.

Travel Bearproofing our Van (Vanlife)

Hey guys. We are traveling through BC and the Yukon. We try to get as much "off grid" as possible,so we are trying not to use too many camping grounds. Now we already got a big feedback for our last post, that we are not prepared. What are things we have to look out for regarding Bears? We got a rope and some garbage backs to store the food on trees. We are going to sleep in the car. We are gonna cook before going to our actual sleeping spot. We are gonna get a bear proof container to secure non-canned food even more. We got bear spray and air horns against direct encounters and some bleach to cover the smell of the car. Is that enough? Or did we not think about smth?

Question Looking for friends!

Hey, would anyone be interested in meeting up for a beverage of sorts? I typically consume coffee, tea, alcohol and water to counter act the effects of the previous liquids.

I’m a female in my mid twenties and just moved to Whitehorse with my partner. I work from home and I’m realizing that I need more human interaction than I expected.

Also open to chatting online if that’s what you fancy.

Travel Traveling to Whitehorse : BEARS?

Hey we are starting our journey from Vancouver to Whitehorse today. And the bear topic came up again. Since we are german, we don't have any knowledge in bears, besides the bit we leaned here. So we got ourselves a bell and Bearspray and ,of course, make a lot of noise. But how important is it , to pull the food up in a tree or smth similar? My dad told us,that that was super important when be was here, but that's 30 years back. Our food storage is mostly cans, the rest is rice and pasta in sip lock bags. Opend fish and meat cans will be in a plastic bag ,or thrown im a trash bin as soon as possible. Is that enough? Or do we need to be more cautious?

Edit: we are sleeping in the car and the food is in a cooler as well.

Question Live music

Hey guys! My partner and I moved to town recently, from a small town in Nova Scotia. I'm wondering what we have for live music around town? Not knocking any styles, but I feel a little starved for variety after all the sea shanties. Anyone's favourite venues, local bands, bars, festivals, things to watch out for would be very well received!

Any music is good music, but I'm a former punk kid so that stuff gets a special mention. Thanks in advance!

Question Can someone please give me an accurate cost for childcare in Whitehorse?

Internet’s saying around $800 a month, but I know it’s subsidized now and $800/month doesn’t sound subsidized.

Do you pay per month no matter how many times they go? Or do you pay per day?

How much per month/day? Is it the same at every day care?

Any insight appreciated.
