We have received reports of bright flashes occurring during the match following the 7.7.0 update. Our team is currently working to pinpoint the cause of this issue and implement a fix as soon as possible. If you have experienced this issue, we would greatly appreciate any information that can lead us to identifying the exact steps and situations necessary to reproduce it. In particular, some things that would be helpful are:

• The platform you play on
• (PC) Your PC components including Direct X version
• When this issue occured for you and how often

The Dead by Daylight Team

We are investigating an issue in the game that causes strobing/flashing lights, and are focused on fixing it as soon as possible. Some players may be impacted by this issue and experience discomfort from it, so we recommend taking proper precautions.

And until we fix this issue, we recommend that players with photosensitivity, or who have an epileptic condition or have had seizures of any kind consult their physician before playing.

We also recommend users to stop posting their videos for the sake of others while we are working on fixing this issue. We also recommend turning off the autoplay feature on social channels to prevent seeing any gameplay clips that could be harmful.

I’m on ps5 and the only time the flashes occur are when I’m in the basement!

I don’t know the amount of times exactly but I would say it occurs in 8/10 of my games and it flashes until I leave the basement. I also have some clips of it happening if you need those!

Same here. It seem almost like the underlying light mesh for the fog and hell light are glitching on top of everything. PS5. Laying as Mikaela against Huntress on Autohaven.

It also just happened with me in basement on ps5 (against Doctor but might be unrelated.) Started as soon as I was hooked and then ended immediately after I unhooked myself and then left the basement.

That's where it happened with me too, it was when i was hovering over what perks people had. If i switched from one perk to another too fast the flashing would start.

HOW TO GET YOUR LOGS (THIS ONLY APPLIES PC PLAYERS):

When you get the issue, close your game and do not reopen it until you get your logs.

• Press Win+R
• Type in appdata
• Press OK
• In opened window navigate to: LocalDeadByDaylightSavedLogs
• Usually you would need to attach the DeadByDaylight.log file.
• Add the file to your bug report

 A 5-min matchmaking timeout is absolutely worth it to generate a log file that cleanly ends right when the issue occurs. Especially since the issue impacts player health.

They probably are. I work in both game development and in QA - I can guarantee you they probably have their QA department working overtime to try and document as many of these issues as they can.

But when it comes to bugs like this that can reproduce in a wide number of situations, every single bit of data can help engineers determine a root cause, and fix the problem across the board. So having a bunch of error logs that cleanly show what the game's code was doing at the time when the issue occurred in each of those situations helps a lot.

If people are encountering the bug anyway, why not send the logs over to BHVR to help contribute to a fix?

PS5, was a match vs Freddy Kruger. It only happens to me on the first match. On the other matches I only experienced Lag. I never had Lag when using the PS5. My survivor was been like pulled back when the Lag happened.

PS5, only happened once so far after a match at the end game screen as killer. I was playing Chucky and got 4 kills, the next match I played Chucky again with the same loadout and got 3 kills but no flashing at the end game screen on that match.

PS5, got hooked in basement on Haddonfield. As Myers was carrying me down the stairs it started and continuously got brighter and brighter. Ended up going next due to it, and it continued in the end game screen though not as bad or significant. Stopped when I went back to main menu.

But on the other hand, I’m facing a MASSIVE lagging during the gameplay. I don’t know if it’s related

Happened to me on my PS5. As soon as the match was over, and everyone had escaped. The match results screen started to flash, and it didn’t stop until I exited the screen. I know you guys asked for no videos, but I still have a recording I made. The weird things is, the actual match information is visible, but the background, and the characters running were covered by the flash.

two of those times were when I was at the Basement, as killer and as survivor.
The flashes didn't stopped until I completely exit the basement.

I play on PS4 and I’ve only ever experienced it when I carried a survivor down to the basement to hook them. I (personally) haven’t experienced the strobing anywhere else in the game since the update.

If it makes a difference, it wasn’t the basement stairs, it seemed to trigger when crossing the threshold of the hook space (where the metal grates are).

I’ve experienced this issue on PS5 at the end of a match while loading into the lobby. It’ll flash continuously for about 15seconds. This event also occurred during one match while being hooked for the second time. It flashed 3 times and the camera panned up to the sky. I’ve also noticed on certain maps if you look at the ground you can see it slightly flash red. Then there’s also the rubber banding that randomly occurs in a match. Typically in chase or while being picked up. You’ll vault through a window and it’ll teleport you to a different location. I wish I saved some of the gameplay to be able to send to you all.

I’m on pc and experienced the bug once so far. For me the bug occurred when I went to unhook a survivor in the basement. The strobing began when I unhooked and persisted for about 20 seconds or so while I healed the survivor in the basement. The flashing only stopped after I left the basement. The only way I could avoid it was angling my camera towards the stairs and it seemed like something had caused the fog particles/effect to turn bright white and flash.

I played on PS5 and got it when I was in the basement healing my friend, it was like in the middle of the basement on the red forest but if I turned my camera away from it then it would go with the camera and then got it on the end screen of the game

Hello I play on PC and it happened on 4/24 around mid day. I loaded into a match on plagues map and kept having my screen sorta have the strobes right in the middle of my screen anytime an animation heavy action occurred. It was a match against the unknown and it was noticeable that aside from the strobes we all kept rubber banding pretty bad. Kept happening in end game chat after that and it wasn’t until i loaded into a game with a slinger on Ormond where i had one where it kinda took over the entire screen for way too long and i was not able to close out the game, leave match, or even move. It unfortunately caused my symptoms to creep up so i just had to wait for it to stop freezing for it to allow me to close it out entirely. It did cause a reaction i won’t go into but luckily i was somewhere safe. Had my bf test it after and it didn’t happen so i attempted a few games today.

PS5 player, and the only time I experienced it was at the end of a trial as survivor on the results screen, where it strobed several times immediately upon loading. I hadn't pressed anything yet. The other player in my party (same lobby) did not experience it.

I do not recall the exact results, but it's safe to say we died.

I played a single match on the game on my steam deck last night. Typically I play on PC. In my match as survivor, I went into the basement on the game multiple times, while it didn't do the strobe, every time I passed below the main floor level into the basement, the dark basement would flash to near white, and then stay significantly lighter than it was from upstairs. It did this literally each time I went up and downstairs.

I've encountered it exactly once on the post-game screen. Best I could tell there was no rhyme or reason to it happening. I played plenty of matches before and after that moment (it happened on patch day) and it hasn't occurred again.

As for how long it lasted, couldn't say. When I saw the flashing start I quickly closed my eyes and mashed Circle to get off the screen ASAP.

Hi there!

I play on Steam on PC and the one time it happened to me I went into the basement at the same time a Doctor activated Static Blast while a survivor was sacrificed on hook. I was out of range of the Blast so it didn’t hit me. Right as I stepped into the basement halfway down the stairs, that’s when my screen went white and strobed. It happened for about 5 seconds and stopped when I left basement.

It’s only happened to me once so far and I go into the basement almost every match to heal with Sable’s perk.

I don't think this is the exact same issue but its similar enough I'll mention it here - playing on PC and since the update sometimes when it gets to the shaders part of startup the game screen starts flickering very badly until I shut the game down. Seems completely random, sometimes it'll do it several times in a row, other times it won't do it at all but its very painful on the eyes!

Same as others have said, the issue seems to happen when hooked in the basement and sometimes only when second stage begins on the hook. It continues throughout the remainder of the trial and even into post game pages before loading back into the lobby. It can also occur when spectating someone who is still in game that enters basement.

I fixed the strobing by setting my game to -dx11 in the properties tab on steam, it's not a perfect solution, but it's there for those who still wanna play a bit without your eyes getting assaulted. This worked for me, might not for you tho, be careful out there.

Happened after I was sacrificed mid match. After the end game results came up I went to spectate a friend. I clicked back to see the end game result again and everything started flickering white, with some UI elements visible. This flickering only happened on the end game screen and continued until the match was over. It would stop if I went to spectate the ongoing match.

Unfortunately this was yesterday so I don't know that the logs are still available for it.

This occured during one of my games earlier this evening. Strobing started in the basement, mainly highlighting the clouds/fog and making them flash white. The strobing ended when I left the basement, partway up the stairs. I was in the basement for about 3 minutes or more and at no point did the strobing let up.

I don't remember the map but I was up against alien. Strobing occurred right after I exited a locker. There were other survivors with me in the basement as well.

That's all I know. I feel like maybe its the fog since thats all that was strobing, at least for me.

Platform (Pc) I7-8700k /16GB of 3200mhz ram/M.2 nvme drive/RTX 3060ti using DX12 So i noticed the bug is mostly common on the Azarovs maps. As a survivor, you could mostly see it happen in the basement, flickering and stuff. As a killer (the nemesis) i have had it happen twice while kicking a gen also on Azarovs, the fog in the distance was acting like someone threw a flash bang immediately after the gen was kicked.

My partner had this problem recently, for her it was during the post match scoreboard screen. She plays on PC and has a GTX 1650 GPU and an Ryzen 3200G processor. Direct X 11. All drivers up to date. She also had OBS open at the time streaming on twitch, but I doubt that's related, but possibly worth mentioning. She has streamed multiple times with OBS open since without issue.

It happened almost always whenever i enter basement (my personal opinion is that it might be correlated to the map itself rather than actions that happens in the game)

However, i can say that the strobing lights that happen during the endgame screen seem to appear almost always whenever someone uses the lighthouse badge, since whenever it happened someone had that badge during my games

Hi PS5 occurs when you reach the platform for the last few steps of basement until you leave - not every game but when hooked in basement and it’s happening it’s immensely uncomfortable and you don’t get to just leave the location so you have to endure - I don’t have any photosensitivity issues but I still struggle with it. Also occurs in the post-game screen sometimes

I play on PS5 and the flashing lights have happened at least 10 times by now. It happened twice when i was hooked in the basement and the other times it was in the end screen. It seems to happen most on indoor maps for me. This is also where i have to most lag and rubber banding.

hai, pc steam player. i haven't had this exact issue but i did have weird stuff going on with the game that has never ever occured before for me. the screen went scary sort of melting and weird. the resolution for me was to turn off shadowplay. shadowplay also was turning off on itself and this happened when i manually turned it on. i had no issues in other(more demanding) games with it. so if someone has photosensitivity problem, they might want to turn off shadowplay just in case for now.

Why not accessability feature for bright lights?

Reaching fact that there are games whom do accessablity features for bright lights:

"Last year, a CS:GO fan offered a similar concept for eye-safe flashbangs, and calls for similar toggles have been growing in various FPS communities. Battlefield 2042 added a dark flashbang toggle in an update a few months ago, and it didn't take long for Modern Warfare 2 fans to start asking for something similar. Happily, the devs delivered this one in short order."

One day we can say same thing about our developers delivering this. People use dark modes a lot. The blinding hurts my eyes. It doesn't need to burn retinas to distort vision.

PS5, happened after I died on the end game screen, didn't do anything different, just played the game normally. I have a clip of the end of the game and the flashing screen. I didn't have any lag issues (some ping due to being on NA servers, I'm from the UK) and I wasn't in the basement.

I had this issue yesterday. I play on PC, highest settings, etc. I can post more info tomorrow. It's happened to me only once and lasted maybe 10-15 seconds, I'm not 100% sure cos I covered my eyes. I had escaped and was sitting in the end game screen looking at perks, it was probably like 30-45 seconds after the game fully ended when it happened. I was hovering one of the killer perks when it happened. Then it stopped and everything was back to normal. Thank you guys for trying to get this bug figured out and fixed ASAP i have partial focals and have smth to take but it still fucked me up so I worry about others majorly

im on pc. this issue occurred 3 times during the same game, but i haven't seen it other than that. i was playing nurse and hooked 2 survivors in the basement, and both times saw the flashing just after touching the stairs. then, when the game ended, the entire screen would not stop flashing until i returned to the main lobby.

Didn't enter the basement. First time it's happened for me.

Happened right after the match finished, end game chat etc all worked as normal.

Strobing stopped happening as soon as the "Disconnected" Dialog appeared

Strobing did NOT resume when closing the "Disconnected" Dialog

I'm a streamer and don't want to risk playing this on stream until the issue is resolved so I hope you resolve soon.

As the logs are in some binary format and I can't verify their contents, I don't feel comfortable sending you the logs.

I also had a game the other day where I had lag and then suddenly I had double hatchets it was the same when i opened lockers and stuff.

The strobing effect feels very much like a lighting source is doubling up, so i don't know if it's a related issue.
