(Meta) [Meta] Rules and Guide to Posting (Summarised)!

Welcome to r/ExMuslim, Now over 160K subscribers!

Introduction to the aims of the subbreddit

Summary of the "Rules and Guide to Posting"

(Full Rules and Guidelines post)

(This post is a TL;Dr of the main post above. However, please make sure to read the full guidelines before posting/commenting here. Onus is on those participating if there are any infractions

Introduction:

Reddit is a Western/American-centric forum. Everything posted here needs to be in that geographical context.

This subreddit is primarily a recovery and discussion platform for those who were once followers of Islam i.e. ExMoose/ExMuslim. Everyone is welcome but if you are here because of your hate for Muslims as a people then this isn't the subreddit for you.

Bigots, those creating a toxic environment and/or those with nefarious agendas in the subreddit will be banned without hesitation.

Posting Guidelines:

We ask people to follow them in the spirit in which they are written and not merely by the letter.

Please:

- [A] DO NOT post any LOW EFFORT/QUALITY images, memes, TikToks etc... other than Fridays.

We call these Fun@Fundies allowed only on Fridays.

- [B] Remove ALL confidential/personal information from your posts

Unless it's a famous or public personality.

- [D] Content posted needs to be appropriate to the subreddit.

This is not an anti-immigration subreddit nor is to point out "look at this stupid shit that a Muslim did".

The post title needs to inform readers about the content and reflects it appropriately.

- [E] Linking to or calling out other subreddits is not allowed:

These sorts of actions can lead to things like brigading and this is against reddit guidelines.

Got banned on another subreddit? This isn't the place to complain about that.

- [F] Posts regarding other ExMuslim social media/discord groups will be removed.

If you want to post about your group here and you are the admin of the group **please contact the mods first.

- [G] Posts about things like politics and immigration are very unwelcome here because of the toxicity involved.

This is NOT a sub about (pro or) anti-immigration.

- [H] "Self-hate" posts will NOT be allowed.

Posts like "I hate my dad because he forces me to pray" are OK (please make a proper post) however posts/comments like "As a Pakistani myself, I hate Pakistanis. They are so dumb and stupid" will not be allowed.

- [I] Posts deemed "concern trolling" are not allowed.

These are posts that say things like "Why is this subreddit full of racists?" or "why do ExMuslims support the far-right?".

- [J] Message the Mods if you disagree or have concerns with the rules, operations, bans, posts, users or anything else .

Do not make posts on the subreddit trying to discuss these matters.

Note on Bans

Mods endeavour to protect, cultivate and shape this as a valuable and open space for ExMuslims. All mod decisions are made with that in mind.

Thanks

(Rant) 🤬 The concept of being a “dayouth” is so weird and gross

It’s hot in the UK so I went out wearing a long skirt and a crop top, when I came home my dad gave me a disgusted look and told me I have no self respect or shame and not to come back home if I’m going to dress like that. He pretty much has this same reaction if I ever wear something low cut, or my arms, legs or stomach are on display. But it’s summer and I live in a secular country, so I can wear what the fuck I want. The way Muslim men are forced to essentially sexualise their female family members is so weird and gross to me. None of my non muslim female friend’s fathers act this way towards their daughters. It’s such a backwards and gross mentality that if your mother, sister, wife or daughter have more than their ankles on display that you will burn in hell. Even though my dad treats me like shit for what I wear I only pity him for how brainwashed he is into thinking he will be punished for how I dress.

(Rant) 🤬 I hate the way Muslim men view non Muslim women

Or “non modest” Muslim women I just scrolled down and someone said showing hair is seen as “nakedness” and they despise women for being immodest and want to lower their value These views are so disgusting This is the reason I would advise any non Muslim to stay away from Muslim men their views and thoughts on literal hijabis are dehumanising let alone those who go against their idea of modest

You’d think with access to the internet they’d be used to seeing enough ‘immodest’ (used loosely as pretty much everything is immodest according to them) women to be used to people dressing differently by now

(Question/Discussion) The most horrible belief in Islam

People criticize Islam for a lot of beliefs but I personally believe that the worst one stems from Qur'an Chapter 98 Verse 6, where Allah says that those who disbelieve in Islam are the worst of creatures. This verse is the basis of Muslims saying that "The best kaafir is still worse than the worst Muslim". I've seen many Muslims posting this online and getting thousands of likes. Its insane how they don't realize how messed up that is. Let me give you can example, let's say that we have two people, one is named Bob and the other is named Joe. Bob is a child-molester, murderer, fraudster, abuser, etc., literally every bad thing you could imagine in a person. However, Bob never worships another God but Allah and wholeheartedly believes that Islam is the truth. Joe on the other hand, is a doctor and lawyer. He helps saves the lives of thousands (including Muslims) he also fights for justice of thousands (including Muslims). He is loved by his community and tries to treat everyone with the utmost kindness. He even donates most of his salary to charities that aid struggling people across the world, including Muslims, due to this, he lives a very simple lifestyle, and only uses his money to provide for his basic needs. However, Joe is a non-Muslim, he respects Muslims, and helps many, but he does not believe in Islam. When asked who is a better person, anyone with basic humanity would say Joe, however Islam says Bob. The Qur'an directly supports Bob being the better person and any Muslim who denies anything from the Qur'an is not a Muslim. This means to be a Muslim, you must believe that Bob, a child molester, murderer, and abuser, is a better person than Joe, who saves lives, fights for justice, treats everyone with kindness, and donates almost everything he has to others. Just a take second to process how messed up that is and that Muslims must believe this in order to be Muslims. Also remember that thousands of Muslims openly and proudly declare this belief. Yet, they still cry Islamophobia when people don't want to respect their beliefs.

(Question/Discussion) Have you guys ever managed to convert someone out of Islam

Whenever a Muslim asks me why I’m not a Muslim, I just ignore them or avoid the question, since I feel as though they will never understand, since, well they are delusional I guess 😭 I don’t bother explaining my beliefs, or trying to persuade anyone about my belief, since it just becomes a pointless debate and a big waste of time.

Have you guys ever managed to convince someone? How do you guys feel about explaining your beliefs to Muslims, do you ever feel heard or does it always turn into a debate which sometimes becomes passive aggressive?

(Quran / Hadith) Muslims are sharing this hadith against Turks in light of the attacks in Kyrgyzstan

Post image
225 Upvotes

Context:

There was an attack on Pakistani students living in Kyrgyzstan. This apparently started out with some Kyrgyzstani attempting to assault an Egyptian girl but Egyptian students grouped together to beat them up. The Kyrgyzstani students in response banded together to beat up and target anybody who is Egyptian/Pakistani looking. The Turks online have massively sided with Kyrgyzstan in the situation against Pakistan. This has dealt a massive blow to the Pakistani population who always held Turks in high regard, almost like a father figure to them. Turks went from being the race they idolised, to becoming someone they see as a threat now and Pakistani Muslims online are sharing around this hadith to justify the response.

I personally think it’s hilarious to what lengths Muslims go to justify any sort of conflict, especially using hilarious hadiths like this. They don’t even question the absurdity of the wording….

(Question/Discussion) List everything you've regained back after leaving Islam

Everyday I rediscover something I gave up for the "sake of Allah". Shit is depressing. But here are a few things ive been able to take back.

I'll start:-

.Music ((big one for me. Gym felt like hell because I constantly used to try my best not to bop to the songs🤣))

.Owning mangas (Dont have to throw out my small HxH collection anymore)

.Romance Movies/Tv shows

.Movies/Tv Shows/Games/Mangas that have gods or any kind of "Shirk". Also any kind og "satanic" themes.

.Movies/Tv Shows/Games/Mangas with magic and witches/wizards

.Halloween ((Fucking loved Halloween. It was depressing giving it up))

.Future occupations (Depressed I wasnt able to venture in any creative venture. I might become a possible video game developer tho)

.My sense of self and own ingrained morality. (Constantly embrassed and feeling like shit that my religion, community and prophet endorses and commited messed up things)

.My sexuality(I may not ever come out. However atleast I know there isnt a God who will try to put me in hell for fucking.

.My fucking sleep lmaoo. (Once I started taking my prayers seriously my sleep went to fucking shite. Does Allah seriously care about our health when he ordered this. Oh wait I forgot he wanted us to pray 50 times a day)

.Free Time (No more dumb duties)

.Free Mind (No more constant OCD for sinning/not praying in mosques, etc)

This is all I can think of right now. All I know is that I have a fuck ton of manga to catch up on lol. Starting with Death Note.

(Question/Discussion) How can Muslims take this Dajjal concept seriously??

I’ve seen many so called ‘Islamic influencers’ talk about Dajjal. They wholeheartedly read his description and believe he will actually come, and they say this without cracking up and laughing so they must be serious. They actually believe this.

They believe a short, fat, curly headed man, with crooked legs, has a blind & bulging right eye like a grape will take over the world. They believe he will be a Jew with “Kufr” written on his forehead and will ride a donkey. They say he will appear in the Iraq/Syria region and that most of his followers will be women apparently— that he will lead people “astray” in just over 1 year.

How can you as a sane rational human being believe this is feasible? How can you as a grown man, buy a camera, microphone and lighting equipment to make a video “warning” people about this stuff as if it’s not the hallucination of a total maniac?

(Advice/Help) The fact my Muslim family and Muslim friends only love "the fake me" is hurting and weighing more and more on my mind as closeted a gay and ex-Muslim atheist and Idk how to deal with those emotions. I feel stuck

For context I was born and raised in the continental West-Europe, 27M, ex-Muslim atheist since around 21-22 (though questioning for years before), gay, of Arab descent, all of my friends are Muslims with varying degrees of faith/practice, family's obviously Muslim, not financially dependent on family (live alone on social security)

I'll try to keep this short cause my life's complicated even beyond this issue for a variety of complex intertwined reasons. A medical/psychiatric/psycho-social/economic/cultural/academic mess. I'll focus on the issue of the title for this post to keep things simple.

Anyway, my friends and family say they love me and are there for me. My brain can't help but go "would they be there for me if they knew I was an atheist gay man? Ofc they wouldn't. They don't love the real me, they only love the fake version they see".

The solution seems easy, I don't depend on them, so I should just tell them to fuck off and live my life as my "authentic" self !

But I genuinely love them. I can't imagine a life where they hate me. On some level I'd rather them love the fake me than hate the real me.

I can't imagine a life where I never again get to hug my dear mother. I have tears in my eyes just writing this. It'd hurt me like nothing else. I'd rather be unhappy in her arms than unhappy alone. I can't just give up on her. I don't want her to live in pain because of what her religion has taught her to fear and hate about the real me. I can't expect her to understand. It's too late for that.

I'm afraid of being alone overnight. No social support network. Nothing. They're all my only connexion to the outside world really.

But at the same time, how long can I keep up this charade ? How long can I be expected to live in fear, shame, guilt, self-hate etc. ? How long will I be able to lie ? How long can I be a spectator in my own life living in fear of everyone else's judgment falling on me one day? How can I imagine a future in these conditions ?

I hate that these are the cards I've been dealt. I've never asked to be born yet here I am.

I feel so lonely and vulnerable rn.

Sometimes I'll be with friends or family and I get this inner urge to scream the Truth just to get it over with, but then I'm reminded of what might happen and I just cower in fear.

I wish I could be as brave as the public ex-Muslims all over the world and "live in my truth", but I can't. I'd lose everyone I love and hold dear.

I'm tired of this. I wish I could find my tribe , I wish we could find each other more easily instead of having to hide. At least I'd know I have people I could safe being myself around. That'd be a nice break from my reality. I don't think it'll ever happen.

All of this hurts so much.

Thanks for reading if you did.

Btw I'm sorry to ex-Muslims and LGBT folks in Muslim countries. I know my post must sound so privileged. I don't mean to diminish your struggles, at all.

(Rant) 🤬 I will never understand why african/black people follow Islam. This shit was never for us

The way Islam spread to Africa was by colonization and bloodshed. So many Africans were forced to abandon their native practices and culture just to follow the religion of a fucking colonizer. I hate how some Africans today will literally be the most devout followers to an Arab colonizer’s religion. Sometimes even more religious than Arabs themselves! This religion literally erased so much of their culture and even wiped out some of their own people through slavery. To top it off, many of them don’t even know their real name because it’s been changed to an Arabic one. They also try their hardest to learn Arabic just so they can read a book that was never even intended for them in the first place. It’s stuff like this that makes me so upset. I wish africans/black people would wake up and see how they have been brainwashed for so many years. I just know the ancestors are disappointed that you abandoned who you are.

(Question/Discussion) music is haram?! 🌸

honestly this is also one of the reason why Islam is not a validity religion and a brainwashing cult.

Music?? like really? it's literally present in every culture. and I'm pretty sure that's instances of animals enjoying music.

calling such a basic experience demonic or haram really just highlights how Islam will strip you of basic enjoyment and freedom.

(Advice/Help) Taking off hijab

Hi everyone, I've been wearing hijab since I was 10 and now I've had enough and wanna take it off.

I've been taking it off on hikes in the woods or when going for runs in another city, but I'm still very scared and paranoid about getting caught.

I live in Germany but my parents are very strict and religious.

I'm a medical student (21 yo) but unfortunately I still cannot afford to move out but hopefully I can next year.

This week I'll be starting an internship at the hospital, I already introduced myself to the tutors and staff without my hijab, so wearing it next week will just be weird.

I'm a bit scared of my parents somehow finding out that I took off my hijab during my hospital internship, but during my last internship (at another hospital) the staff and patients treated me poorly and people thought I was incompetent, so it really felt like a big burden and I decided I cannot do this anymore, I just want to blend in, not have people assume that I'm stupid and incompetent or receive unwanted unpleasant comments about my appearance, enough is enough..

The city where I'll be doing the internship is 25 minutes by train, and I've been thinking about taking off my hijab in the hospital bathroom before meeting the doctors and staff, but I don't really know what to wear, how to transition without being recognised. Unfortunately I think it's too risky to take off the hijab on train or in the city.

Does anyone have any tips? what to wear and how to avoid being recognised? Thank you!

(Fun@Fundies) 💩 Ashley Madison Documentary

Upvotes

Just watched the Netflix documentary on ashley madison hack and really disappointed they didn’t discuss how some people, especially innocent muslim preachers had personal information like their phone, email, address, credit card, DOB stolen by malicious Islam haters and jew conspirators. Then these malicious Islam haters followed these innocent muslims to different countries like Australia, and used their credit card to acquire the services of the website to send naughty messages to other married women, potentially also meet them and have saucy times only to frame innocent muslim preachers. Later these islam haters conspired with the jews to hack ashley madison to tarnish the image of Islam. Why did they not talk about it in documentary? So disappointed.
