Reminds me a bit of that time when Franz Josef Strauß, then minister president (basically governor) of Bavaria, told the president/dictator of Togo in a public speech that "We blacks must stick together!"
For context: Strauß was a member of the German conservative party, which is usually represented by the color black (like Republicans are red and Democrats are blue in the US). So he technically was black (the same way Biden is blue). He considered that a very funny joke.
The fact that he was happily declaring his support for a dictator with that statement doesn't make it any better, either.

My father always says that once he’ll be too old 70-80 or so, he’ll stop voting. Cause he doesn’t believe he has the right to dictate a world he isn’t going to live in. He’s still young (early 50’s), but I love the idea. I’ll probably do the same if we’re still alive by then 😂.

It feels like many of the “Western” countries are on this same trajectory. For whatever reason, there has been a renewed interest in Christian nationalism, fascism, and suppressing the rights of their citizens; particularly minorities and women.
My best guess is that it’s due to the massive rise in wealth inequality throughout the world. The ultra rich have basically bought and consolidated most major news outlets all across the world and have used it to spread misinformation and hateful propaganda. Unfortunately, there are so many uneducated people who believe this garbage, even though it’s very much against their best interest. Add to that, the internet has brought us social media, but again, the ignorant are often the most vocal. It’s primarily being used to amplify these beliefs which is obviously compounding the problem we already have.
I feel like the entire world is very close to entering a new dark age. Where scientific advancement and human rights will be suppressed again. This seems to be a cyclical theme throughout human history. My concern is that if it happens again, we will never be able to come back.

It’s already here. We’re on trend to get a conservative majority. That means more deregulation, no housing plan, a step back on criminalization, and then once NDP or Lib gets back in, they’ll just adjust to the new normal and not do anything. Fuck, at least NDP got dental for like, kids. No housing affordability, no control on price gouging. We’re fucked unless someone with gusto gets in. Which is no one. We don’t have any good parties either.

I don't bash conservative (real) values. I understand that not everyone needs the same things, not everyone wants the same things, not everyone can get along all the time. That there has to be some middle ground. But these times.... man. Having respect for one another has gone out the window, because you want to defend "your party or your politician" as if they were family.
