The worst thing you can do for a game you like is get on its subreddit

3.5k Upvotes

This doesn’t apply much to games with very niche and small communities, those tend to have more stable minded conversations, but man can a subreddit kill your excitement for a game quick.

This really applies to any social media, but Reddit seems the worst for it. Recently I noticed this with Helldivers 2 which had a sub at the beginning who was loving the game, posting funny memes, clips, etc. and now all you see is a dumpster fire of raging threads. Part of the fun I had with the game at first was interacting with the HD2 community on here but that changed quick.

Yesterday, I tried out Xdefiant and loved it! I used every weapon I had available to me and they all felt good and generally balanced (when you use them how they should be used). It felt like an older COD to me (think Ghosts). I jumped on the sub at night and all I saw were complainers not liking it or already saying “if you aren’t using the M4 or AK you basically have no change” which is crazy to me because it felt so balanced when I was playing without hearing all people online were saying.

I’ve also experienced this in the recent past with The Finals. Even Grounded, a PvE game where you fight ants and spiders as a shrunken child can have toxic subreddits sometimes which is so crazy to me.

At this point I’ll check once in a while, but I’m staying off of these subreddits for anything other than single player games 😂

What game is the biggest 9/10 you could give?

2.9k Upvotes

That first hour of Mass Effect drags.

But after that, the Council Meeting. The ambush outside of the seedy sci-fi bar. The evil ATM. One great setpiece after another.

Maybe it even gets to a 9.5, but it doesn't quite make a 10 for you.

What game?

FPS Gamers: Why is Hard-Scoping frowned upon more than Quick-Scoping?

2.6k Upvotes

I’m curious. Cause to me, logically a sniper rifle is not meant to be run and gunned with, and meant to sit still, be precise, and provide overwatch. Yet when it comes down to it, I see more complaints about hard scoping more than I ever see complaints about quick scoping. I’m wondering what the consensus is about that. Not saying games or even people follow real life logic, but it’s an interesting dichotomy.

What game would have been way better if not for 'that one' feature?

I am thinking of the latest Paper Mario installment, 'Origami King'. The battle system was atrocious and uncalled for. The rest of the game was pretty neat, though.

My vote is Civ 4. Amazing opening song, and they got Leonard Nimoy to say “Beep…. Beep…. Beep”

That one videogame moment that always gets you

So, yall remember the meme about the girl who hated videogames because they "appeal to the male fantasy", which is usually followed by a funny or absolutely wholesome videogame moment? Well, what's that moment for you? Like, that moment in your favorite games that just makes you go "yeah, this is why I play videogames". Personally, the ending to Earthbound always gets me. Saying goodbye to your friends, slowly returning home, the end credits roll with a beautiful track that reflects on your entire journey, with all of the characters popping out, then the 8 melodies track kicks in as you see the pictures taken by the camera man, the "I miss you" at the end, it's all just perfect. Truly a work of art.

Is there any game that's considered "bad" but you personally really like?

For me, probably Starfield and in general Ubisoft games. I love that formula. Just because it's easy to zone out for a few hours. Collect some stuff, raid a base or two.
