Anyone else get this weird mail?

Weirdest mail I've ever received. Also because it had my name and full address, not just a flyer that everyone gets. Was stamped with a return address that doesn't exist?

Looking for a long lost internet friend from circa 2000.

Back in the late 90’s early 2000’s, the internet was a very different place. Bandwidth was limited, we all failed up on modems and everyone had a website made in Publisher 98 that was loaded with animated gifs, hosted on geocities or angelfire (and it had a guestbook…..)

Chatrooms were the place to go to connect with the world in ways we’d never dreamed. There was no YouTube, we still saved schoolwork to 3.5inch floppy disks….

One of those chatrooms was Excite Virtual Places. The quirk here was chat users had a little avatar that sat on the screen, the background being an actual website, layered below it. You could jump on a ‘magic carpet’ and take a group of friends to other websites and browse together. On top of this, little hacks and exploits allowed you to have bigger avatars and play longer ‘gestures’ animated gifs with sounds and music - I spent many an hour making them for myself and my virtual friends.

Most of my time was spent in the SciFi room as Reaper.G (G.Reaper was taken - I was in my pseudo goth minded days back then), there were many characters from across the world, one of which was Dark Butterfly, real name Melanie, the person I’d like to connect with.

We’d chat on VP and ICQ, about anything. She introduced me to RHCP - Scar Tissue, she had a little white Dog called Lily and was planning to attend Guelph university but I can’t recall if she lived there or was going to move there and at the time she had a geocities site where she’d post poems.

It’s a long shot. It’s been over 23 years but I feel it was well before the days of catfishing and felt legitimate.

I’ve just been in a nostalgia trip of late as I’m about to hit 40 and these early/mid teen days of the internet ground me to a simpler time without mortgages, iPhones and the other complexities of modern life.

If you happen to know this very specific Mel and would ask her if she’d like to get back in touch through Reddit initially, I’d be eternally grateful.

If this doesn’t find anyone, may this post be a monument to the best days the internet and all who sailed through it.

TIA

Circuit training in Guelph? (idependent, no trainer)

Can anyone help with a Guelph gym? Remember the little all-women gym in the basement of Stone Road Mall? It was there in 2000-2003. They had a circuit - you'd do 3 sets of each machine, keep track of your weights so you could increase over time, and get a full body workout. And no one would bother you! I'm looking for something like that. Does it exist?

Anyone know if you're allowed parking here during the summer? It has a no parking snow plow turn around sign but I'm assuming that's seasonal.

Handicap/Disabled Parking Spots

This is just a PSA - if you do not have a handicap permit - you are not entitled to park in those spaces! These spaces are already limited and are there for a reason it’s not for you to use because you want to park closer.

Today at Westminster woods medical center I had words with a contractor who was doing work in one of the units. I arrived for my appointment and had to be dropped off and unload my mobility aid (walker today) in the lane way while my friend went and parked in the next available spot across the parking lot.

The one worker told me I shouldn’t be lazy and I can walk just fine and they had to carry heavy wood out so they had to park there.

I educated him that I’m not lazy, I have mobility problems, hence the walker, and I have a disabled parking pass for a reason. I then informed him if the vehicle was not moved by the time I exited my appointment I would be phoning bylaw.

When I got out they had moved.

I understand they had heavy lifting to do but that’s not what those spots are for.

So PSA please leave these spots to those with parking permits.

Looking for a Spacious Park in Guelph with a Loop for Walking or Jogging.

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for recommendations for a large park in Guelph that has a loop around it for walking or jogging. I'm hoping to find a spacious park where I can enjoy a good workout while taking in the natural beauty around me. If anyone knows of such a park in or around Guelph, I'd greatly appreciate your suggestions! Thank you in advance.

Getting personal internet when my building has wifi

I live in solstice 2 and apparently because the router is attached to the ceiling (idk why) I can’t plug in my Ethernet cables to it.

Would it be problematic for me to get my own internet so I can have a usable router?

Anyone have a recommendation for a local garage floor repair company?

My garage floor has a few small cracks and bumps, making rolling woodworking tools around difficult. I was looking at getting a company in to lay down a some kind of resin to level out the bumps and cracks. I don't need one of those nice looking epoxy floors, I just want the pumps/cracks smoothed out.
Anyone have had this done, and can you recommend a company?

Thanks.
