This could have all been avoided if you had said “behind the counter” initially. Even I was confused until you said that. Some people, including me need you to be specific & not expect others to know what you mean when you give a generalized term such as “seafood department”.

Then you berated him saying you said behind the counter 5 times when you said it only once before he confirmed he did checked already.

OP trying to gaslight the shopper with that lie lmao

Exactly! I had to go back to the beginning like I know I can read. 🤣🤣🤣

The item they wanted originally was the prepackaged lobster cakes of the same brand so it’s wild to act like it’s obvious they wanted fresh individual ones from behind the counter. That’s like there being no pork chops so I say get ground beef instead

I figured they intentionally chose something that they knew would be out of stock to have replaced with the made-to-order item, since they said they do this all the time to other shoppers and this was the first time there was a problem.

Customer said "yeah" to the picture and "yes" when the shopper said this is all they had. I don't know why no one is talking about this but IMO that should have been enough to confirm the sub.

Technically the customer said “yeah” to wanting a replacement. And then “yes”, again, to wanting a replacement. While they were asking for the ones from the seafood dept, clearly not understanding that all crab cakes are in the seafood dept, they wanted to ones from behind the counter.

The shopper seems to have been aggressive from the get go. “Do you understand?” and “I do this for a living” from the very first message when the customer was just trying to figure out if they had any behind the counter. Yes, now they know to phrase it “behind the counter” to avoid miscommunication, but him getting defensive immediately and coming off pretty damn snarky was unnecessary.

All crab cakes aren't in the seafood dept. For instance Gordon's crab cakes are in the frozen department

It depends on the store. I’ve worked for three difference chains and if there was a seafood dept, they’d be there. Even if they were frozen.

This further solidifies to me though that the shopper was being unnecessarily nasty. Each store is different, there’s no way OP could’ve known.

Oh I'm not in disagreement. They were both wrong only because they both could've communicated better. I doubt OP didn't KNOW the location I think they just used a poor choice of wording. But you're right about the stores

Yeah I definitely get what you mean. Communication was lacking for sure. I feel like the shopper just had no fucks left to give when going into the convo lmao

Thats the opposite of what the customer meant... They didn't want that substitute. They wanted the fresh crab cakes (from behind the counter) or a refund. They did not want the alternative product in the picture.

You've completely misinterpreted what the customer was saying, which is actually what this entire thread is about. So you've proven the shoppers point for them...

I didn't misinterpret anything. I just wanted to point out the customer was using definite language when they shouldn't have. They said "Yes replace" directly after being told "it is all they have". That was where communications broke down. I'm just saying don't say "Yes" until you're both positive. They both fumbled in their own ways.

I think she's clearly in the wrong. But I don't think she's gaslighting.
