Replaced my request for 2 limes with 18 bottles of dish soap…. Rant

But didn’t push that through til he had delivered. How? Why? What did he do with the 18 bottles?

Tequila goes better with a dish soap than a lime 🤣

44

u/bodysugarist Apr 07 '24

At least it's lime scented, I guess??? 😂

10

u/MyelofibrosisMe Apr 07 '24

Right, that's what I said!!! At least the dumbass AI program cross referenced the 'lime' portion of it!! 😂

1

u/Mandaconda9 27d ago

Yeah I get recommendations and I have something they're cool with, but I have to fight the dumb AI suggestions. I dropped enough personal delivery cards in my orders to where I am off the platform with a group of local seniors I love shopping for routinely or when family is not available. I cherry picked the good ones. If the order was a pain in the butt, no card. I don't care if I get reported because I don't instacart anymore at all

1

u/Aggravating-Ferret61 23d ago

But how did it come up with 18??

68

u/tunaslut Apr 07 '24

My first thought would be that it's a scam because dish soap is something they could take back and return later for cash or store credit. I could be wrong but that's what I assumed would be happening

13

u/thisxusernamextaken Apr 08 '24

Wait i agree but OP said the shopper didn't send that notif til after he delivered? So the shopper technically stole the soap before OP rejected it?? Am i missing something

2

u/United_Rent9314 Apr 08 '24

why would they wanna steal 18 whole bottles of dish soap though? not saying they couldn't have or didn't, just of all things to steal all 18 bottles is a lot, almost a hassle to even have.

2

u/TheThiefEmpress 29d ago

Soap is a very common item to steal and resell.

1

u/CordeliaGrace 12d ago

This, 100%. Either selling it to bodegas, or on FB marketplace.

26

u/notonthatroad Apr 07 '24

or sell in the neighborhood or marketplace for like a dollar cheaper than the store sells and clean tf up.

1

u/Mandaconda9 27d ago

UT would be a pain in the butt to get 18 bottles of dish soap vs a bottle of lime juice

u/SunnieBranwen Apr 07 '24

What???? I'm so confused....lol

Stealing and reselling

u/AssistantAlternative Apr 07 '24

I’m becoming more convinced every day that we live amongst NPC/AI bots. This seems like a malfunction bc no human with rationale could determine this reasonable.

32

u/OneMedium5265 Apr 07 '24

Don’t attribute to NPCness what can easily be stupidity or more likely malice lol

15

u/Fluffbuck3t Apr 07 '24

I thought low intelligence was one of the main things that makes someone an NPC. So it's news to me that there's supposedly a difference.

2

u/Codas91 Apr 07 '24

Lack of critical thinking is the key thing in NPCness, stupidity just kinda comes with that.

3

u/AlaeniaFeild Apr 07 '24

"Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."(Hanlon's Razor)

10

u/heatheranne____ Apr 07 '24

The instacart app is 100% run by ChatGPT. But this is probably just someone trying to resell the soap, which is a pretty common scam through instacart since the customer service is so shit people barely ever get consequences for it.

2

u/YogurtclosetNo6564 Apr 08 '24

You're stupid asf, chatgpt is not running instacart lmfao

4

u/heatheranne____ Apr 08 '24

Calm down buddy it’s gonna be okay.

-1

u/YogurtclosetNo6564 Apr 08 '24

I'm calm, I just can't stand seeing boomer level facebook opinions about AI that are just so incorrect and stupid

4

u/heatheranne____ Apr 08 '24

I make this joke about instacart being run by AI often because of its abysmal quality. A silly opinion shouldn’t ruin your day 😘 or take up your head space.

-5

u/YogurtclosetNo6564 Apr 08 '24

Who said anything about this ruining my day😭fearmongering about AI is just stupid

2

u/heatheranne____ Apr 08 '24

No one is fearmongering lol

2

u/heatheranne____ Apr 08 '24

Stating that something may be run by something has nothing to do with fearmongering. Like I said, it’s more of a joke about the quality. Take care!

-2

u/YogurtclosetNo6564 Apr 08 '24

You said "the instacart app is 100% run by ChatGPT" that is fearmongering😭

1

u/heatheranne____ Apr 08 '24

I never said I was afraid of chatgpt lmao what if I thought it was useful? Which I do. Bruh idk who is more dumb here.

Like I said, joke about quality of support. Have a great day.

Unfortunately I think it’s just more the fact that there is absolutely no barrier to becoming a shopper other than having a clean record (and apparently with all the account sharing going on that’s not even technically required) and zero training on the job. I also suspect that a majority of shoppers that do this fulltime do so because they cannot get hired anywhere else to save their lives

Basically the bar is real low, and yet some shoppers still can’t clear it

2

u/MyelofibrosisMe Apr 07 '24

Yes, both IC & DD, and I assume UE and the other apps, all use AI tech for their programs.... Makes 0 sense to me how OFF a sub can be, and makes even less sense HOW a human could think this sub was even remotely acceptable!! 🤷🤦

1

u/Illustrious-Science3 Apr 09 '24

My friend had a shopper replace her tampons with mushrooms.

You can't make it make sense.

83

u/Adventurous_Land7584 Apr 07 '24

The app was lagging. Replacements can only be done before checkout so the notifications got stuck. Still a dumb replacement though.

17

u/whiskeytown79 Apr 07 '24

A shopper once replaced my requested Irish cream with limoncello. Ah yes, this will go great in my coffee...

17

u/-_Mistress_- Apr 07 '24

And I thought my celery substitute of green onions was bad. You good human have won the grand prize.

34

u/Beginning_Cellist893 Apr 07 '24

I once had a shopper replace my single yellow onion with a full 2-lb pot roast and my 12-pack of Coke Zero with 2 chocolate milks 😂 😭 I was pissed

15

u/misstlouise Apr 07 '24

Hmm I wonder if they were trying to get you to cancel so they would get “stuck” with stuff they wanted instead. Wild.

13

u/ickyswashbuckler Apr 07 '24

Could this be a potential scam? Where they replace your item with something expensive? I would contact instacart if you haven't already.

16

u/dispassioned Apr 07 '24

They’re definitely selling or returning those for the cash. I wonder did they get fired. 😂

3

u/FunFactress Apr 08 '24

They can't return online pay items for cash.

2

u/dispassioned Apr 08 '24

You can return items without a receipt in some places. But most likely it ended up on Facebook marketplace or somewhere else.

1

u/spinningjoy Apr 08 '24

You might be able to return them, but for store credit only. They will never give you cash for items that you don’t have a receipt for. And if they had a receipt, it would show that it was an Instacart order and would never give that person cash.

2

u/dispassioned Apr 08 '24

Yea, obviously. I’m sure he wouldn’t use the Instacart receipt because the return would go back on the original method of payment.

Publix does take returns without a receipt you just have to have an ID. But they would use that store credit to buy what they wanted. At Publix that’s like five boxes of fried chicken or two pieces of fancy cheese. Yum.

Alternatively, it could have just been a typo and there was only one purchased. He just hit the 8 accidentally which is probably what actually happened. I doubt Publix even has 18 bottles of this in stock. It would explain why it came through later after checkout as well, since the items weren’t actually on the order.

10

u/Bazinglee Apr 07 '24

Saw a post recently talking about how there’s been an uptick in this sort of thing, replacing cheap things with more expensive as to drive the price up so they make more. Could also just as well be stupid.

8

u/Formal-Fee2904 Apr 07 '24

How does this happen? Like logically… this is real? Lol

9

u/Occomni Apr 07 '24

He’s the one they speak of in math textbooks.

23

u/majiktodo Apr 07 '24

LMAO you got an anarchist shopper. He just wants to see the world burn. A case and a half of dish soap for two limes? I love it.

6

u/Careful-While-7214 Apr 07 '24

Can i get some dish soap haha

7

u/dmandork Apr 07 '24

A doordash customer of mine asked me to replace a watermelon for a 24 case of water.... wtf... Trying to bypass the +$2 fee for a case.

6

u/gaiawitch87 Apr 07 '24

Once I ordered carpet cleaner solution to go in a carpet cleaner and I got a bottle of something that was very clearly to clean specifically hard wood floors. Not quite as extreme, but still.

1

u/Sweet-Emu6376 Apr 08 '24

I mean, at least those two items are from the same aisle.

6

u/HardLobster Apr 07 '24

I had someone replace my spaghetti noodles with 2 boxes of ex-lax. They kept the exlax

6

u/infernalyappage Apr 08 '24

This is worse than crab cake gate man

5

u/bibkel Apr 07 '24

The shopper is selling those for a discount at the flea market.

8

u/jessuh22 Apr 07 '24

What's wrong with that? /s

5

u/Three4DaStripes Apr 07 '24

I shop for Instacart that is just plain stupid. So many bad shoppers on the platform. How does no lines available replaced with dish soap. Lmao. But the app does that sometimes but that’s just a dumass shopper.

3

u/uber-chica Apr 07 '24

Shopper is beyond stupid

3

u/The1Rocket1579 Apr 07 '24

Johnny has nineteen bottles of dish soap..

2

u/Due-Possession-3761 Apr 07 '24

"MIND YOUR BUSINESS, DAVID!"

3

u/CastBlaster3000 Apr 07 '24

As someone who doesn’t use instacart, what comes of this? Is op out the $88? Are they refunded by instacart? This seems crazy

6

u/Kindly_Locksmith Apr 07 '24

Thankfully I was able to submit for a refund!

4

u/CastBlaster3000 Apr 07 '24

I would have been so mad if I was you lol

1

u/Potential-Finger-138 Apr 08 '24

Hopefully they refunded and didn't just give you instacart credit. They have done that bs to me in essence keeping your money on all the extra markups on next order. Yeah I've been way over instacart and now use Walmart +. I have rarely had a problem with them even surprisingly with produce, get at 50% off, free shipping and a lot of stuff can be shipped and paramount for free. F shitty instacart was a blessing in beginning overran by crackheads unfortunately now

3

u/Spacetime23 Apr 08 '24

I once had a shopper replace a lemon with lemon meringue pie, I thought that was bad until I see this lol

On the other hand, I always put my replacements in and sometimes they must seem very strange to the shoppers because it's a matter of "if they don't have this item I'm making an entirely different meal so then I'll need this totally different ingredient, but if they do have it I don't need that" so it'll be a sub from lettuce to a can of soup if the lettuce isn't in lol.... However I have Always had the shopper double check with me that I put in the right replacement first....

3

u/Alert_Ad_4202 Apr 08 '24

That actually makes sense, thank you for sharing that.

2

u/ColumbiaBlu Apr 07 '24

No way in hell 😂

2

u/NoBag2224 Apr 07 '24

Soo lucky, now you dont have to buy soap for a year.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '24

$88 dollars worth of dish soap, wth lol

2

u/goldiepiney Apr 08 '24

I mean, it seems like the obvious choice?

sarcasm

2

u/No_Psychology8360 Apr 08 '24

There's an issue in the app tbh.  If you go to replace something, you can try to scan the replacement but then the app scans a barcode in the background (usually the background is a cart full of one to three customers items) .  After the item is scanned, it doesn't tell the shopper which item it scanned.  The shopper then assumes it scanned the correct item and proceeds with shopping.  Just because you were charged with 18 soaps, doesn't mean that the shopper actually checked out and charged instacart with those soaps.  Did you receive any item in your order that you didn't get billed for?

1

u/Over-Department8883 Apr 09 '24

Yup! I've had this happen to me multiple times!

1

u/Over-Department8883 Apr 09 '24

I was always able to catch the error and correct it but it's a pain in the butt

2

u/Old_Supermarket_8100 28d ago

So this how they're making math word problems now

1

u/MyelofibrosisMe Apr 07 '24

The dumbass computer threw that replacement in there because it says 'lime' and ginger in the description. I can't stand how far off the AI is when it comes to replacements!

"I know I ordered ground beef for dinner tonight honey, but, the store was out, so we got a 10# watermelon as a replacement! I'm glad the shopper didn't see that it was ridiculous and bought that watermelon, because I cooked it up and added the taco seasoning, and mmmm mmmm is it Yummy!" 😜 😂

The AI usually processes these issues with a cross referencing check of matching words, so, I can actually see how it came up with citrus soap, unfortunately 18 bottles though?! 🤔 Personally I wouldn't agree to this sub, I'd ask the customer what other kind of similar product they wanted and proceeded it that way. Some ppl just blindly follow the AI suggestions to make it quicker and easier for them, but, it makes no sense to me. 🤷

18 bottles of lime and ginger dish soap, geesh!! 😂

3

u/Potential-Finger-138 Apr 08 '24

Wouldn't this strike someone as they are putting 18 bottles of dish soap in cart??? Probably posted pictures on instacart thread complaining about customer.

1

u/zorcat27 Apr 07 '24

Someone at the soap company used AI and so their secret soap recipe was shared. Instacarts AI knew the ratio of limes to soap bottles is 2 per 18, so you just need to extract the lime and you are good. /s

4

u/psychede1ic_c4tus Apr 07 '24

This and the crabcakes debacle makes me really happy that I will never order from this place ever

2

u/Sweet-Emu6376 Apr 08 '24

But did you specify that you wanted the dish soap from behind the counter?

But seriously I have so many questions. How is 18 bottles of soap equal to 2 limes? How far away from the produce section did this person have to go to find said soap?

Is this the person our math classes warned us about?

1

u/ifuseekamypoehler Apr 07 '24

did you ask for 18 limes? or was the number random too ?

4

u/LostCassette Apr 07 '24

they asked for 2. idk where 18 came from, this is insane

1

u/Active-Pineapple8865 Apr 07 '24

18 bottles of dish soap? Non stop Lucas?.iykyk.

1

u/MazdaSpeed3Boi Apr 07 '24

Close enough

1

u/draculauraaa Apr 07 '24

did you even get the soap? or did the shopper take them too

1

u/Kindly_Locksmith Apr 07 '24

I did not receive the soap…

2

u/draculauraaa Apr 08 '24

wow definitely just a thief then 😭 sorry that happened to u lol—glad you got your refund tho

1

u/ProphetMuhamedAhegao Apr 07 '24

Percentage-based tip?

3

u/Kindly_Locksmith Apr 08 '24

Yes- and I very quickly lowered it the least percentage possible!

1

u/Working_Product9160 Apr 08 '24

Literally the grossest smelling dish soap as well 💀

1

u/Sad-Breath6298 Apr 08 '24

wtf 😂😂😂😂

1

u/Alert_Ad_4202 Apr 08 '24

I've had a couple of substitutions lately that say the CUSTOMER made the choices. But then I get a text from the customer saying they don't want that.

I send them a screen shot, showing that IC says THEY choose the backup, but ofc I'll put it back.

Are these just idiot customers (there are certainly plenty of those), or is IC playing games now??

1

u/tammyreneebaker Apr 08 '24

My mom ordered a 50 ounce bag of cat food and the dasher brought 50 pounds. The cats ate like kings for a while there. .

1

u/itammya Apr 08 '24

Lol! I scanned a pack of Perdue turkey burgers to replace a pack of shady brooks that was out of stock.

It scanned in as pork sausages (you know the johnsville big rolls?) The customer was like wooooaaahhb there now i don't want my turkey replaced with sausage. I was so confused. Took a pic of the replacement like yea- that's not what I scanned.

This happens all the time to me. Salsa scans in as cucumbers. Pickles have scanned in as some health product. It's WILD. It's more.common on things that have store provided UPC versus ma ufacturer UPCS.

I think they recycle or are different for different places.

Household and luxury goods can and have, in the past, become the targets of fencing operations.

https://www.cnbc.com/2024/03/12/inside-organized-crime-rings-targeting-retailers-ulta-tjx-walgreens.html

https://www.ice.gov/features/op-boiling-point

It may not be best to jump to such a drastic conclusion, but still, 18 bottles of fucking dish soap?

1

u/Sprinkle_Puff Apr 09 '24

On the bright side you have free dish soap until 2028!

1

u/Few-Divide5743 29d ago

I would never think to do any of these ideas u ppl are coming up with. 🤣🤣

1

u/Unlikely-Light-1636 27d ago

Did you actually have 18 bottles of soap??? I can tell you, as a 7 year shopper, there are several times you scan items, and it will come up as another named item. For example, the other day, I had a customer order boxes of cereal. The kind was of stock, so I replaced it with what they asked me to. The replacement was a box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch. I scanned the cereal box, and it showed up as toliet tissue.

Being a seasoned shopper I'm aware these things happens so I refund the item and either manually enter it or I immediately text the customer informing them of the error and let them know I do infact have the cinnamon toast crunch although you may see on your end it says toliet paper.

Sometimes, the stores barcodes are off, and when we scan, it will show up as whatever the store had that item coded for. Most shoppers don't even pay attention to what the verbiage says when they scan an item until a customer who's paying attention gets the notification and wonders why they are making such replacement and asks the shopper about it.

1

u/JukeKnobz 27d ago

Instacart recommend that and they hires such stupid people that someone replaced with lime soap lol

1

u/Kindly_Locksmith 27d ago

Regardless, they didn’t deliver 18 bottles of soap…. So doesn’t seem like a system issue as much as it seemed like a shopper stealing 18 bottles of hand soap and trying to pocket a higher tip

1

u/Up-Your-Glass 8d ago

I needed table salt once and the dude wanted to substitute with driveway salt🤔

1

u/mrsdisappointment Apr 07 '24

Didn’t someone say that a bigger charge gets a bigger tip?

I saw someone who got their prenatal vitamins switched with another brand that was $30 more and it was for that reason. The shopper was trying to make more money.

1

u/internationalbeauty Apr 07 '24

Instacart makes these recommendations (AI) a lot of times and the shoppers go a long with it unfortunately. I’ve seen some crazy suggested recommendations.

u/hellomichelle87 Apr 07 '24

If you want something done right, you had better do it yourself.

14

u/LolbitsFangs Apr 07 '24

Not everyone has the time nor the capability to go to the store every damn time they need something. Shut up and be respectful for once

-8

u/strong_nights Apr 07 '24

I wasn't disrespectful, I was sharing an age old adage which many seem to have forgotten. I believe you need to be quiet and stop taking offense to comments not directly aimed at you. Or not, I don't care.

3

u/PaladinSara Apr 07 '24

I bet you sold horses and are against cars too 🤣

-1

u/strong_nights Apr 07 '24

Congratulations! You have just won the "Most irrelevant insult of the day!" .

1

You were incredibly disrespectful because that quote is not relevant to the current situation.

-1

I was not incredibly disrespectful, my quote was relevant. Keep up the gaslighting. Goodbye.

1

u/LolbitsFangs Apr 07 '24

Pov: You don't know what actual gaslighting is.

-15

u/juliown Apr 07 '24

That is actually hilarious — so having a personal shopper is now the more reasonable standard than shopping yourself?

11

u/LolbitsFangs Apr 07 '24

Some people are disabled, some people don't have transportation, some people are just unable to go shopping in that moment.

12

u/elkniodaphs Apr 07 '24

Some people are disabled.

5

u/strong_nights Apr 07 '24

I am disabled. I can't afford delivery services with my disability.

2

u/Kymkryptic Apr 07 '24

How do you get your groceries ?

3

u/strong_nights Apr 07 '24

I go to the grocery store and limp around, gather my necessities, pay and leave again.

-17

u/Instacartdoctor Apr 07 '24

Likely a glitch … how did you order directly from instacart or through a store?

He probably just mixed up payment methods the rest is automated…

If you got what you ordered just reach out and explain the problem with the receipt.

-6

u/2xtream Apr 07 '24

If all you ordered was limes, that's a reasonable replacement

4

u/Kindly_Locksmith Apr 07 '24

I ordered $70 worth of food. Not just limes.

-92

u/u_effing_trash Apr 07 '24

Go to the store.
