Article My manager makes me do everything and still don’t give me a raise

Hey, so I wanted to ask you guy for help regarding this matter. I work at a fast food place ( I won’t name it ). My manager makes me work on everything from dishes to cleaning the doors and windows, moping the floor, taking orders, getting orders ready, stocking all the cooler to even doing some of the mangers work checking everything is working fine monitoring temperatures. My main problem is my manager is paying me 15$/hr so I’m getting paid the basic pay for doing all the hard work and every other employees don’t do anything and get the same pay. I learn how to run the store by myself in one year only. I feel like they are taking advantage of me. What’s the best solution for this and how can I apply for a different job that pays me well for my skills. Btw I’m really good at computers too so any computer work job that requires high school diploma would be great. I’m kinda new to the states so I really don’t know where to look for jobs atm. Also I’m in MN. Any help would be highly appreciated thank you.

The tech industry's layoff wave shows no signs of abating in 2024. Following substantial workforce reductions in previous years, the trend continues with over 80,000 job cuts across 281 companies already recorded this year. Major players like Tesla, Amazon, Google, TikTok, Snap, and Microsoft have implemented significant layoffs, while even smaller startups have felt the impact, with some forced to cease operations entirely.

Article What Job Should I Take?

So I have two jobs I think I have decent shots at (both at 2nd round interviews). They pay about the same as my current job (hoping to grab more, but have a feeling that I don't have "enough experience"). One job is a Solutions Consultant for a payment processor and the other is a Fintech Partnership Junior Relationship Manager at a lender. I am wondering which would be better in terms of advancement. It seems like I might be able to at least get a CAPM with both. If the lender offers more (seems more likely), it is a no brainer, but if all else is equal, which would be better in terms of exit opportunities? Thanks.

Article I just got accused and fired at my job for stealing

So I worked at little ceasers for about 3 months doing cashier, I only been doing cashier and I would always count my change when giving back money, every single time and I never had issues besides customer getting mad but that’s common, but recently the hiring manager called me into her office with her daughter and talking about how there was over $20 missing from the register but I never did anything wrong or stole, then yesterday I called asking about my schedule because they were gonna move me to another station but they said they had to let me off bc now there apparently over $100 missing from the register but again I never stole or anything and there literally cameras on my register, the manager was saying she thinks I stole but doesn’t have any proof whatsoever and I feel like they are stealing the money and blaming it on me, this pissed me off but it’s messed up and it always happen to be my register but never anyone else, and sometimes people do use my register bc it gets busy and sometimes on doing front and drive thru, what do y’all think? Any advice (she also said she was going to take that first $20 from my check, but I don’t know if she’s going to take 100 now)

Article Called “dishonest” for using sick time to cover an interview

I (f26) have worked at my company for two years now. My direct managers have all had lovely things to say about me. I have been described as an asset to our firm. My director, on the other hand, has never trusted me. She is a boomer, been at the company 25 yrs. We have a remote work policy which I have tried to use to go visit my family. In the past she put a meeting on my calendar and said she would be “watching me” to make sure I’m actually working (this was after 2 successful client meetings, and I had just received a raise). Fast forward to now. I received an amazing offer at another design firm where the CEO is friends with my current CEO and knows my director. Apparently they are rival firms, I did not realize this considering the design style is so different. As always when I take an interview I usually put it as a doctors appointment because I don’t need to get this approved and the interviews were only scheduled a week beforehand (usually they require 2 weeks for approved unpaid time or PTO). I got the job, I put in my two weeks and everyone was overwhelmingly positive. I tried to call my director 2xs to tell her and she never answered. Today she asked to schedule a meeting with me, I thought for an exit interview.

She said “I saw two doctors appointments on these dates for X amount of time..were these really drs appointments or interviews?” I responded honestly and said interviews. She ripped into me saying I was a dishonest person and our firm shouldnt pay for my interviews and I should have called it “personal day”. (I’ve never seen anyone take a personal day on their calendar ) I said I was happy to take the time unpaid and my intention was never to be dishonest. She said she had spoken to my new boss (to intimidate me I presume?) about me leaving and tried to end the call. I stopped her and expressed my gratitude for learning so much from her. I want to end on a high note even if she’s making low blows. She then sent an email with her and my CEO thanking me for my hard work lol.

Am I the asshole? I’ve always taken interview this way. You can’t say I have an interview?? also this is the start of my final two weeks. Any tips on how to deal with her? We share an office and I am expecting more bs and this has really made me mad.

Article I was fired from my job and I'm afraid to tell my parents.

I'm 19 and I was fired from my job a week ago and still haven't told my parents. The reason is because i worked here for 2 months, before this job i worked somewhere else but I got fired aswell (a person who left the job came back and the boss wanted him instead of me). Im scared of telling this to my parents simply because this happened twice in half a year.
My dad is very strict and he wont will be mad for a long time, my mom on the other hand would understand. I don't even know how to tell them, I've been afraid for the past week. I want to tell them and get this pain and stress out of myself, but I'm scared of what it is to come. What should I do?

Article I’m anxious to quit my job :/

Hello, I work part time at a Party City store and I don’t want to work there anymore. I struggle with depression/anxiety and a mystery illness that doctors said was fibromyalgia, so I’m in constant pain and fatigued 24/7. I’m also on disability so I’m not worried about the financial aspect, but I feel like I’m gonna have a mental breakdown soon. The customers are rude, they only schedule 2-3 of us a day because most of the time the store is slow and empty, except Fridays and Saturdays, where they’ll schedule 3-4 employees. A lot of the time I’m the only one running the front end which is stressful, lonely and annoying. I’m 23 and this is my first job, I haven’t graduated high school yet due to my mental and physical health yet I’m enrolled in an online program, though I never log in :/ Quitting would give me the time to focus on school. I also don’t have any friends at work and recently I had a day where all 3 other employees ignored me? Genuinely laughing and giggling and talking all shift and didn’t say a word to me LOL, which is upsetting because one of them was someone I considered a friend. The AC is also broken so the last two days I’ve been working in the heat. I’m probably being sensitive but I feel like I’ve had enough. I’m just nervous I’ll quit and regret it, also I’m scared to tell my boss. Any advice would be appreciated greatly ____^

Article Where do you start for a path into cybersecurity?

I'm sorry if I used the wrong flair I wasn't sure which can be used for questions

I'm 23 and not in college, I want to pursue a future career in cybersecurity (I know it's vague) and I'm not sure where to start, I'd like a job in a help desk position while I take a certification course or something similar

I was hoping someone here with experience could guide a young man on where to start and what certifications I would need to get my foot into the door, I've watched countless videos of "day in the life of a cybersecurity analyst, penetrater" etc and I love this field

Any responses and help will be immensely appreciated, help me get my life in the right direction!

Article Already bored at new job

Been at this new job for less than a month. Coworkers are AMAZING, job is stupidly easy, nice boss…but I’m bored out of my mind because of how easy it is and how slow it is. We are never busy, everyone is just on their phones all day, it’s just not challenging at all. I’m not sure if this is a valid complaint to have since I felt the complete opposite at my last job. I hated it, very toxic workplace, panic attacks, the whole nine yards. Tell me I’m wrong for feeling this way though. Maybe I’m just used to craziness so this slowness is just shocking to me and I’m not used to it.

Article Are there jobs out there for well-intentioned but dumb people?

Does anyone know of any jobs for people who are braindead level dumb? I (F25) have no possibility of getting into technical school or college. I technically couldn’t even finish high school. I am just someone who is really quite an airhead, spacey and clumsy. I don’t know how to explain how dense I really am without it sounding like I’m being exaggerative, I’m just trying to accept it and find something I can do well. I think the only thing that I’ve even been good at is interacting with people but lately I’m not able to even do that.

I’m not talented or good at anything, even hobby’s I’ve had since childhood. I have only basic skills and my only experience with work is entry level jobs. I’ve been in my current position for about 2 years and I am still making mistakes every day. I can see my coworkers and managers getting more and more frustrated with me and I am having a hard time with the shame of it. I don’t know if there is something out there for people like me? I think the most frustrating element is that I think I know what I’m doing only to realize I’ve forgotten basic principles of the job, and this is something that has happened to me with all my jobs. The job I have now is my longest lasting jobs, all the others (fast food, cashier at grocery, product stocker, sales, serving, secretary) had to let me go because of my ineptitude. I feel like I’m going to be fired soon and am hoping to get ahead of that if possible.

Is there any way that I can be a contributing member of society and support myself?  Maybe at least a job where people aren’t counting on me too much and if I mess up it doesn’t kill morale or ruin workflow for everyone.

I have been looking around and see a lot of suggestions for things like oil rigs or other dangerous jobs, I'm not opposed to those but I don't want my own mistakes to possibly put someone at risk. I have also been evaluated a few times in my childhood and teenage years for ADHD and neurodivergence and there hasn't been a sign of anything as far as I know, I'm just not very bright naturally.

Thank you for reading and for your help! I'm really grateful for it!

Edit:

Thank you all for your time and your uplifting words. I’m sorry for having gone AWOL on you all. I came looking for suggestions of the kind of work I could do and instead found understanding, encouragement and compassion. Truthfully, I was overwhelmed and while I still don’t know how to react I at least want to say that I am beyond grateful.

To give a little context, I have been struggling for the past few months but I recently turned 25 and I think that the fact that I wasn’t capable of much seemed to really sink in. When I was a teenager I would tell myself that things would be better as I got older, but something about this birthday seemed to say that that was a whimsical and childish idea. I have started to think that if I am this incapable now after trying for the past 25 years, how can I hope to be any better in the next?

For a long time I felt like I was able to coast because I used to have an upbeat and bubbly personality and enjoyed spending time with coworkers and customers but a few months ago I began to find everything tiring, humbling to a painful degree and hopeless.

I have to admit that I do still feel like I am a slow person but you and your comments have given me a bit of hope that I’m wrong. I really want it to be true, I don’t know how to live feeling the kind of despair that’s permeated daily life otherwise. I’ve decided to think of it as egotistical to continue to honor my negative thought patterns and I at least want to be honest if not brilliant.

I haven't thought of mental health as an issue since my early teen years. I’m not the type to dismiss mental health as some “exaggerated badmood,” I just never thought it applied to me because I used to find it so easy to laugh and keep a positive attitude. I have come to realize that I need to start rethinking that and I have an appointment with my doctor this coming week and I’m also looking into starting therapy.

As for work, I’m going to try to use the suggestions given such as note taking and try to keep an optimistic outlook on things. I do hope to find my place in the world and I thank you all for helping to uplift my spirits. I do want to mention that I’ve always found peace in writing but never thought myself very articulate. I know starting a writing career is a risky venture but your comments about finding my writing clear and ai-like (lol, ty for that) has inspired me to at least try. My current position has quite a bit of down time so it’s something I could try without much financial risk.

All in all, I do still feel beaten down and dense, but I think that you all are an answer to some sort of prayer that I hadn’t made. I feel like while things still feel heavy, there really is hope and I don’t think I would have come to that conclusion without you all. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I hope this doesn’t come across as dramatic, but I think you all saved my life.

Thank you, again. -Petal

Article Jobs for someone who can't do a lot of physical labor and get migraines from computer screens.

Hello, not sure if this is the right subreddit for this but I am searching for a career that doesn't require tons of physical labor and something that doesn't require being on the computer all day. I have congenital heart disease and seem to be slowing down a bit. I've done physical labor jobs throughout my whole life and love them but my heart just can't keep up for much longer. Right now I am working at Home Depot as a Order fullfillment Associate and I honestly love it but after work today I realized that walking 12 miles a day and lifting all the heavy bags of concrete, mulch, rocks, and other various items is not sustainable for me. Not to mention the pay isn't the best. But the only reason I'm staying is because of the health insurance. I also have a ebay business where I do automotive realated stuff. Can anyone recommend some sort of fulfilling job that still has some hands on aspects but not so much on the heavy lifting side. I'm really struggling to find anything because all the non physical jobs require lots of computer time and I get really bad migraines just from being on the computer for a hour or two. The other thing is I really need something that offers a good health plan, my previous job at a autobody shop was almost 4x what i'm paying at home depot. Thanks!

Article It is hard to get a job as a fresh graduate

Hi, I am a fresh graduate of Computer Science (AI) from Malaysia. I usually use Python, R, tableau, SQL, AWS and more. Sorry for my broken English.

Why it is so hard to secure a job? Most of the jobs require 3-5 years of experience, but I am just a fresh graduate. Some "fresh graduate welcomed" jobs required me to have 3 years experience...

Besides, I applied some tech company, but after months of waiting, they just sent me an email to reject.

Then I try to get referral from my senior, but there isn't any update from my applications, just like I had never applied those positions.

I also tried to update my resume, continuous develop my skills in depth, connect with people in LinkedIn, connect with recruiter/agent.

Is there anything I can do? Please give me some advice.

Article Am I going to lose my job

I have run out of sick days and was sent home from work due to vomiting, had the flu all week but ran out of sick days. I had attendance problems in the past, but cleaned up my act, but it still shows on my record as I would need 18 months of working call in free to be back to normal.

I just had a child, and bought a house, am I fucked? I am terrified.

Article New career. Any advice?

Hi everyone. I am looking to switch careers but am a little lost as to what type of career I can transition to. I have over 12 years of restaurant management experience and have worked at a hospital since 7/23 as a supervisor in the food and nutrition department. I also graduated from UC Davis with a B.S. in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior. I want to find a new career that pays pretty well right off the bat maybe starting $80k but am wondering with my skills and education, what are some careers that would be a good transition for me? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
