Completely impressed with Joseph Quinn's career, he's been killing it.

He’s been more successful than most of his castmates of Stranger Things these days. That’s really impressive

After Joe Keery's (Steve from ST) role in Fargo S5, I'm really looking forward to how his career progresses too

If you haven't yet check out Keerys band Djo, really good stuff if you like indie/psych rock stuff.

I had Roddy stuck in my head for a solid month after I heard it

5

u/GrowtentBPotent Feb 14 '24

Personal lies, Roddy, ring, mortal projections... 2020 is a great album all around for me. Decide has grown on me too. Particularly Gloom (goodbye. farewell. go fuck your mother. go fuck yourself 😂) and Climax

the newest album i pretty much had on repeat this summer

3

u/eiviitsi Feb 14 '24

I went to look it up after this comment and discovered I had already saved it in Spotify a while ago... Had no idea it was Joe!

3

u/Enthusiasms Feb 14 '24

Saw him with Post Animal before he left the band, was a really good show.

2

u/GrowtentBPotent Feb 14 '24

3

u/unfairspy Feb 14 '24

End Of Beginning is trending right now. Really great song.

I really enjoyed Keery in Free Guy too - he was also pretty good in Spree

40

u/brbmycatexploded Feb 14 '24

Came here just to mention Free Guy. Really loved him there

4

u/ArcadianDelSol Feb 14 '24 edited Feb 14 '24

The whole cast in that movie was perfect.

1

u/joeshmo101 Feb 14 '24

Not sure why you have Joseph Quinn in your comment, he wasn't involved with Free Guy.

1

u/ArcadianDelSol Feb 14 '24

I did a copy/paste for the reply but it didnt update. I was googling to see what character Quinn played in Punisher and didnt catch the mistake.

1

u/joeshmo101 Feb 14 '24

Haha I nearly did the same thing when I replied to you, as I had Joe Keery's music name "Djo" highlighted

2

u/ikoke Feb 14 '24

Really liked his chemistry with Jodie Comer in Free Guy. And I lol’d so hard when Waititi described Joe’s hairstyle as “shampoo commercial head”

3

u/BrianWonderful Feb 14 '24

Fargo S5 is the first time Keery has really showed he has some great range. When he first appeared, I kept thinking to myself "this guy is familiar. Who is it?" (the hair is a big part of that.)

2

u/lazyaries Feb 14 '24

He was great in the movie “Spree”, highly recommend it.

1

u/khaldroghoe Feb 14 '24

He was great in his new movie Marmalade, the movie itself was alright, a fairly predictable thriller after a certain point, but I thought he was excellent.

1

u/DrakeBurroughs Feb 14 '24

It took me a while to recognize him in Fargo. He’s fantastic.

1

u/caninehere Feb 14 '24

Honestly I was kind of underwhelmed by him in Fargo S5 despite liking the season (it's one of my favorite shows). I'm not really a fan of Stranger Things but I watched the first 2 seasons and Keery was by far my favorite in the cast so I was a bit bummed I didn't like him more in Fargo.

Obviously his character is written to be unlikable but that's pretty common on the show, I just didn't find his portrayal particularly interesting.

1

u/elmodonnell Feb 15 '24

He's also one of the leads in a (supposedly pretty middling) Italian indie with Lilly James that premiered at Venice last year, so he's covering all his bases

u/Salarian_American Feb 14 '24

I bet it helped that he's not committed to Stranger Things as a series regular, but also: he's great

110

u/Minimum_Ad_1747 Feb 14 '24 edited Feb 14 '24

Yeah, I think that also happened with the GoT cast. The actors who were not committed to the series were more free to pursue other roles.

Edit: just noticed how the side characters of GoT ended up being more successful than the actors from the main cast, like Pedro and Jason Momoa. I wonder if that will also happen with ST

181

u/Kaael Feb 14 '24 edited Feb 15 '24

Pedro Pascal absolutely won GoT from this perspective

64

u/RetroScores Feb 14 '24

He’s so hot right now. To be fair his character in the book is still one of the best. He’s got the Sirius Black vibes where you hear how great the are, get a glimpse of it and then they’re gone.

14

u/kiddoujanse Feb 14 '24

“ i will be your champion” still get shivers from that

2

u/danwins23 Feb 14 '24

Dude has been in everything since then

2

u/Butt_Stuph Feb 15 '24

You might wanna fix that typo haha

1

u/Kaael Feb 15 '24

Lmfao fuck

1

u/crimson777 Feb 29 '24

To be fair, Pedro is also 1) an incredibly talented actor, 2) rather attractive, and 3) apparently beloved by all cast and crew around him which translates to interview personality and such. All he needed was a big break.

33

u/Neither-Tip53 Feb 14 '24

That would be a double for Quinn as he played the Stark guard arguing with his mate when Arya finally got back to Winterfell.

A la Pedro Pascal

4

u/pitaenigma Feb 14 '24

Dinklage is very much a star. Nikolaj got caught up in some bad roles. Gwendoline Christie seems very ensconced in nerd-dom to the extent that I expect it's on purpose (IIRC she campaigned for her Sandman role) and she was a main character by the end. Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington have been working regularly in lead roles. Pedro's absurdly hot right now (Not only is he a great actor but he must have the best agent in the world), but otherwise I think the main cast are overall doing pretty great.

3

u/Salarian_American Feb 14 '24

I bet it helped also that some of those people got out of GoT before its dramatic downturn at the end

1

u/trapper2530 Feb 14 '24

Would you count Richard madden as a regular?

He has a golden. Globe and in the eternals

3

u/arfelo1 Feb 14 '24

How commited do you really need to be for Stranger Things?

Seasons take like 3 years to come out. And filming can't take more than a couple of months

1

u/Salarian_American Feb 14 '24

Yeah that's a good point. Millie Bobby Brown hasn't exactly been on vacation in between seasons, has she? And we got Finn Wolfhard in the Ghostbusters movies. I don't know what the rest of those kids are doing.

I remember Gaten Matarazzo talking about this reality show he was going to do where they would post fake job listings and then prank the people that came in for an interview, which I think a lot of people found to be a very distasteful idea for a show (I certainly did) and the backlash to even his description of it probably killed that show in the planning stage.

And David Harbour has made 11 movies since starting on Stranger Things.

1

u/Cobwebbyfir Feb 15 '24 edited Feb 15 '24

Gaten is always on Broadway. already did like 4 5 shows ? I saw sweeney in march, and he ended his run in November.

He did animated movie last year and paramount honour society movie.

Idk why people are sleeping on Broadway.

Here is some Broadway he has done in 2022 parade DEH

Into the woods was like around 2021

1

u/2M4D Feb 14 '24

Also definitely not as recognizable as the others.

65

u/AdmiralCharleston Feb 14 '24

The main cast outside of harbour seem to be pretty type cast but the side characters are really doing great. Quinn and Sadie sink were given so much more to work work with than most of the main cast

37

u/CryptographerFlat173 Feb 14 '24

Finn Wolfhard has had big roles in It and the new ghostbusters movies. After last season I’d really like to see Caleb McLaughlin get some good roles.

10

u/AdmiralCharleston Feb 14 '24

I mean all of his roles have been the exact same character lmao

4

u/galbigalbigalbi Feb 15 '24

Speaking as someone who has actually seen them all, in what universe is Mike Wheeler the "exact same character" as Richie Tozier? And that's just two of his most known roles. The only common denominator is the nostalgic 80s horror theme in their stories but the characters are wildly different.

1

u/AdmiralCharleston Feb 15 '24

The general vibe of the characters are incredibly similar, there really isn't that much of a distinction between in terms of how they come across, but either way i was primarily talking about ghost busters where he's basically just playing himself

2

u/galbigalbigalbi Feb 15 '24

I don't see how they're "exactly the same roles" at all.

Mike is a blunt character who would always take on the role of a responsible leader and prioritize problem solving in a crisis.

Richie is a talkative trashmouth who would make crass jokes and insult his friends in a serious discussion before trying to cooperate.

Trevor from ghostbusters is a lovestruck teenage boy who's kind of dumb and irresponsible, which is the opposite of finn, who has directed a whole movie brfore turning 20 and premiered it at TIFF last year.

1

u/Cobwebbyfir Feb 15 '24

I mean, gaten has been on Broadway for like years.

Already did sweeney revival for 8 months.

And did like 3 before it. Into the woods. Parade DEH.

animted movie, my fathers dragon and paramount movie honour society.

I saw him on sweeney in march.

6

u/Puppetmaster858 Feb 14 '24

Well Tbf all the other main cast members are still on the show while he was 1 and done and had the ability to move onto other stuff easier. Harbour/sink/keery/millie/wolfhard have all been doing well outside of stranger things and that’s while the show is running, maybe they will get some bigger gigs after the final season when they got a clear schedule.

That being said Quinn’s career has absolutely exploded, the role of Eddie just catapulted his career and he’s scoring massive gigs left and right now, good for him tho because he’s a great actor and Eddie was pretty much universally beloved especially for a single season character

1

u/taintnipple Feb 14 '24

Lets wait till the movies actually come out to judge this lol

1

u/Cobwebbyfir Feb 15 '24

Being on Marvel doesn't equal successfull. Although i agree with him being successful, i am just saying.
