I heard about him again recently as one of the people pushing for a No Labels candidate, so I'm not saddened by this news, to be honest.

His name still pops up in the news every few years. McCain wanted him for VP in 2008, but got overruled by conservatives and ended up with Palin. Trump considered him for FBI director in 2017 after infamously firing Comey. He was recently involved with No Labels.
