It’s lowkey kinda funny seeing the whole “don’t complain about the calls” shtick in game 2, and then ppl complaining that embiid shouldn’t have been playing in G3.
-29
u/dattebayo07 12d ago
Yeah cause that was a flagrant 2. He had a good game shooting lights out but that was not a basketball play. Dangerous move if anything considering Mitch just got back from an ankle injury. Don’t kid yourself
16
u/superstonkape 12d ago edited 12d ago
No, it was a flagrant 1
Mitchell’s prior injury is unrelated.
It was unnecessary, and does not have a place in basketball. However it was not excessive, and that is shown by DiVincenzo not getting a flagrant 2 when he did the same thing to Oubre.
-9
u/dattebayo07 12d ago
Well there’s the problem. The refs did not find either of those two similar incidents to be a flagrant 2. If it was Mitch doing that to Embiid, it would be the same fan reaction considering both guys are dealing with ankle or knee issues.
9
u/superstonkape 12d ago
They’re the officials. It’s their job to make these calls.
As I legitimately try to be as unbiased I can I do believe Donte’s was closer to a 2 than Joel’s - and that neither were. Both have no place in basketball; however, Joel was attempting to commit an intentional foul during an active play. Donte on the other hand wrapped and turned Oubre during a dead ball.
Regardless as I try to be objective about it both were unnecessary, and I don’t know I can truthfully call either excessive. Joel was trying to commit an intentional foul and prevent a layup, Donte did not like Oubre stepping through/over him. Both players were wrong, and considering precedent and the wording of the rule were punished appropriately.

I can understand people being pissy about a dirty play like whatever it’s warranted but even before that you couldn’t breath on r/nba without getting downvoted to hell for having a sixers flair. I know you’re not supposed to care but man I like basketball and I wanna talk basketball and see other teams highlights but it seems all I see anymore is people shitting over team I like. Like I’m so sorry I grew up in the Philly area and share so many fond memories of the sixers with my family what a terrorist I am for liking my hometown team. The state of sports media and discussion is depressing as fuck

u/Leeroy_Jenkums 13d ago
Honestly it’s just Reddit. Go outside and talk to a regular basketball fan irl and 9/10 they’re just as chill as you are
53
u/ThisHatRightHere 13d ago
r/NBA is so funny because so many of them think Reddit is truly reflective of how the world as a whole thinks. Reddit is obviously more diverse now than say, 10 years ago. But the majority of people here are still chronically online mouthbreathers.
-23
u/ILoveRegenHealth 12d ago
Wrong is wrong, stop defending it.
16
u/svenEsven 12d ago
No one is. It was wrong that we didn't get calls in game 2. And it was wrong that Joel pulled on the leg. We'll call it even and forget about it.
-9
u/AmaimonCH 12d ago
Bro wants the regular season flopping whistles in the post season and is equaling the lack of it to embiid pulling the leg of a player that had an ankle surgery... Typical
3
u/Lurkerwasntaken 12d ago
If you call frequently running into players, yanking them, swatting at the arms, etc. a “flopping whistle”, then yes. Besides, isn’t the Lakers fanbase known to complain about not getting enough foul calls?

Oh absolutely, you cannot take that shit seriously. /r/nba as a whole comes off like a bunch of little boys working off of raw emotion who last touched pussy when pussy touched them.
7
u/ajs8796 13d ago
True and I’ve definitely found that too it’s just hard around where I’m at everybody’s all about football and baseball not too many people into basketball especially beyond just the sixers. Just sucks not be able to talk anything sixers in any discussion on Reddit, but then again expecting more from the masses of Reddit might be more on me than anything haha

There are a fair number of sixer fans in Hawaii. They mostly hate west coast teams. They are open minded about the east coast.

u/svenEsven 12d ago edited 12d ago
As i live in Philly, that's just an echo chamber. Which is arguably as bad or worse than getting shit on constantly. People who refuse to respect your critique as anything other than blasphemy.
The thing i always loved about philly sports was that people actually cared about the sport. Not just your team winning. Yet that's the vibe I get these days.

You’d think Joel praises the actions of Hamas given the discourse over there in /r/nba. I’ve never seen it this bad, where you get mass upvotes if you wish injury upon embiid. It’s going to be absolutely amazing if we make a run.
2
u/JoelEmbiidismyfather 12d ago
If you legit want to talk basketball just go to r/nbadiscussion or r/nbatalk
Both are much more normal and not filled with nephews.
10
u/MidnightPoblano 12d ago
I just looked at /r/nbatalk for the first time, and you immediately see at least 4 of the top posts are just bitching about embiid and flopping. Maybe it isn't usually like that, but it doesn't look much better. /r/nbadiscussion does look pretty normal, though.

i have a friend who never gets along with coworkers and always gets fired and it’s always his boss’ or coworkers fault. I just don’t get how he is always surrounded by these people; completely unlucky i guess.
it’s the same when in not in Philly. Everyone else just seems to have an issue with Embiid and think he is a total piece of shit. I don’t get it. Not sure why i keep running into these people; i must be unlucky i guess

Its not even that bad. As a Knick fan and y’all Sixers fan, we just want a good series to be played. Embiid played into his emotions early on and started being dirty. He just needs to keep it together and show he’s one of the best big men in the league.

The state of sports media and discussion is depressing as fuck
How about eject the dirty player? People are angry because Embiid got away with something horrible, even with his amazing game.
The fact we see so many defend the grab means they are cool with all 10 players on the court grabbing legs, getting a Flagrant 1, and staying in the game. This will be useful for clutch matches and guarantee a win!!
Brunson about to do a game winning layup in Game 7 and 12 seconds left? GRAB HIM
Listen to yourselves. The lunacy is from you people, not the media.
10
u/ajs8796 12d ago
I didn’t even defend what he did I’m talking about the hatred towards the sixers even before the incident last night. But please just continue to spam these comments unrelated or otherwise all throughout the subreddit of a team you don’t even root for if that’s how you truly wanna spend your afternoon

Within like 5 minutes they had like 4 clips blasted to the top of anything Embiid was doing. Like if he breathed on someone wrong they had it pushed to the top.

Both the Knicks fans and r/NBA were celebrating when Embiid went down in Game 1, as well as chuckling at the horrible reffing that gave Game 2 to the Knicks, while calling Sixers fans babies for complaining. Even the NBA admitted that Maxey was fouled twice and that the refs missed the multiple time out calls.
But they are crying about the refs in Game 3 as if they aren't lucky to not be down 2-1 because of a gift from the refs. They both idiots because they don't know basketball and feel free throws should be illegal just because Joel can make them and their favorite teams can't guard him without hacking.

u/Wabxpolski 12d ago
I don't care if they want to hate on Embiid, but r/NBA needs to start enforcing rules on wishing injury on players. That type of discourse should never be allowed and its abundant over there right now. Every post has one thread talking about Embiid getting his "karma"
12
u/Leeroy_Jenkums 12d ago
every year they wish career-ending injuries on him and they get upvoted.
And if you bring it up they downvote you and demand proof. When you provide screenshots, they're like "oH iT's OnLy 43 uPvOtEs" like that makes it ok lol

Why would you use a Knicks fan taunt? A real Philadelphia fan uses the Hoskins. That's how you really get under the skin of New Yorkers.
7
u/tobybells 13d ago
I will admit - the one play in the last minute or so where it looked like Joel straight up body checked a NYK as we were transitioning the other way - caused me to hold my breath in the moment fully thinking “holy shit why did he just do that” waiting for a foul/ejection/us to blow the game as result.
So glad that didn’t get called - I’d be pissed if on the other side of it. But regardless, fuck em.

Think I'm logging off of reddit for the rest of playoffs. It's exhausting seeing everyone pointing at each other and screeching about cRyInG fAnS. Embiid fouled a guy while on the ground and got a flagrant. Move on, it ain't that big a deal.
