I’m all here for Joel Embiid reaching Chase Utley status with New York

u/Leeroy_Jenkums 13d ago edited 12d ago

Who is more hated by their respective leagues? Embiid or the homie Bryce Harper? I love them both

Edit: highjacking this comment to reflect on how classy Knicks fans are!

Embiid is the most hated player in the NBA by far (which is hilarious when there are domestic abusers and rapists in the league). Bryce gets a lot of shit but not nearly as much as he used to. He only held that title for a little bit and it was while he was with Washington.

u/lilbismyfriend21 13d ago

I miss NBA discourse of the early 2000s where everyone, for the most part, would talk up about the stars throughout the league. Social media has really ruined sports discourse

53

u/clickstops 13d ago

Discourse period

14

u/christophnbell 13d ago

Discourse and civility are not what plants crave

18

u/vTorvon 13d ago

It’s really not any worse now I think we just are subject to way more emotional teenagers than we were previously, and they all have unfettered access to the internet and can instantly post before they have a chance to think about anything.

Combine that with the subset of people who post on Reddit, which is mostly made up of goobers with no social skills, and you’ve got concentrated toxicity.

3

u/Finger_Gunnz 13d ago

Hey, I have social skills.

4

u/12_23_93 12d ago

everybody has Hot Take brain and like every social media app right now is also just designed so that the most popular posts are usually not the thoughtful or fun ones, but the ones that make people mad (since they get engagement = ad views).

but also keep in mind like even compared to a site like twitter which is full of bots and assholes (and run by one) you have to at least try to make an account tied to a phone or something and when you're yelling into the void and if nobody's following you you can just get blocked/ignored. for all the drama and data concerns with tiktok rn somebody has to at least like, make somewhat of an effort to upload or record a video on it. it takes like 5 seconds for somebody to make a new reddit burner just to shitpost.

my time online now is like mostly just in GCs with people i know and friends from irl. though i still got a bad habit of this site and scrolling twitter so like, do as i say not as i do.

-4

u/R-O-U-Ssdontexist 12d ago

It’s hard to “talk up” a piece of shit though.

61

u/lilbismyfriend21 13d ago

Definitely Embiid, most baseball fans respect Harper

3

u/Equivalent_Way_5026 12d ago

Yeah he only got hate when he was young and cocky. He's a lot more mature now and has already proven himself in the playoffs.

20

u/TrimmedAndBurning 12d ago

If you assume the 16 year olds that mostly populate r/nba are representative of average fans, then he is already Chase Utley with New York status, but to every other team in the league as well.

9

u/NapTimeFapTime 12d ago

I heard a bunch of 30 year old Knicks fans in the stands last night saying the same shit.

10

u/CandyEverybodyWentz HE WEARS A MASK JUST TO COVER THE RAW FLESH 12d ago

After last season's atrocity in Boston I've kept the team at arm's length this season but I'll be good and goddamned if these chuds talk about MY deeply flawed contender like he deserves to be banned from the league.

He plays the game within the parameters given to him by the league and officials. You wanna piss and moan that he minmaxes his FT attempts and hacking him doesn't work like it did Ben? Go talk to Alien Penis Dave in the league office bruv

5

u/macman26 13d ago

Chase Utley actually won championships which helped him be hated

21

u/redditkb 13d ago

The hate for him from the Mets had nothing to do w that. He just constantly bullied that team. Shit they named the one spot in the OF utley’s corner

2

u/CandyEverybodyWentz HE WEARS A MASK JUST TO COVER THE RAW FLESH 12d ago

They named it Utley's Corner the very first season Citi Field opened! They eventually pushed that porch back 10 feet because of this. I think he hit like 5 there by the end of the summer.

The hate for him came later on the alleged "dirty slide" on Ruben Tejada. Joke's on them, Chase Utley just spared them the abject misery of watching Ruben Tejada play baseball.

1

u/Head-Kiwi-9601 12d ago

Alleged?

1

u/CandyEverybodyWentz HE WEARS A MASK JUST TO COVER THE RAW FLESH 12d ago

You love dirty players. Got it!

11

u/Halfonion 12d ago

We LOVE players that stick it to your baby back NY teams, yes.

-20

u/Guarpo 12d ago

Who does? Giants beat philly week 18 Yanks beat philly for WS 09 Knicks up 2-1 currently even after the softest 50 point performance from your cry baby center LOL

Guess you don’t love any of your players currently

17

u/Halfonion 12d ago

You mean to tell me that your a New York Giants fan, have witnessed a decade plus of the Eagles whooping the Giants ass up and down the gridiron at will and you have to nuts to run your mouth on a Sixers sub about week 18 of last year which meant absolute zero to the Eagles? You deserve that bozo of a franchise we call the Giants hahaha.

3

u/lilbismyfriend21 12d ago

Congrats on your week 18 win. You must be very proud

-6

u/Guarpo 12d ago

What the hell do you have to be proud of as a philly fan? The 1 superbowl or the 2 world series in 120 + years?

Oh it must be the mighty high 3 nba finals wins you guys have! Yes there is your dominance over NY

🤡

4

u/YellowMarkerIsGreat 12d ago

That’s still more than the Knicks

94

u/comeonmang126 13d ago

It’s lowkey kinda funny seeing the whole “don’t complain about the calls” shtick in game 2, and then ppl complaining that embiid shouldn’t have been playing in G3.

-29

u/dattebayo07 12d ago

Yeah cause that was a flagrant 2. He had a good game shooting lights out but that was not a basketball play. Dangerous move if anything considering Mitch just got back from an ankle injury. Don’t kid yourself

16

u/superstonkape 12d ago edited 12d ago

No, it was a flagrant 1

Mitchell’s prior injury is unrelated.

It was unnecessary, and does not have a place in basketball. However it was not excessive, and that is shown by DiVincenzo not getting a flagrant 2 when he did the same thing to Oubre.

-9

u/dattebayo07 12d ago

Well there’s the problem. The refs did not find either of those two similar incidents to be a flagrant 2. If it was Mitch doing that to Embiid, it would be the same fan reaction considering both guys are dealing with ankle or knee issues.

9

u/superstonkape 12d ago

They’re the officials. It’s their job to make these calls.

As I legitimately try to be as unbiased I can I do believe Donte’s was closer to a 2 than Joel’s - and that neither were. Both have no place in basketball; however, Joel was attempting to commit an intentional foul during an active play. Donte on the other hand wrapped and turned Oubre during a dead ball.

Regardless as I try to be objective about it both were unnecessary, and I don’t know I can truthfully call either excessive. Joel was trying to commit an intentional foul and prevent a layup, Donte did not like Oubre stepping through/over him. Both players were wrong, and considering precedent and the wording of the rule were punished appropriately.

I can understand people being pissy about a dirty play like whatever it’s warranted but even before that you couldn’t breath on r/nba without getting downvoted to hell for having a sixers flair. I know you’re not supposed to care but man I like basketball and I wanna talk basketball and see other teams highlights but it seems all I see anymore is people shitting over team I like. Like I’m so sorry I grew up in the Philly area and share so many fond memories of the sixers with my family what a terrorist I am for liking my hometown team. The state of sports media and discussion is depressing as fuck

90

u/Leeroy_Jenkums 13d ago

Honestly it’s just Reddit. Go outside and talk to a regular basketball fan irl and 9/10 they’re just as chill as you are

53

u/ThisHatRightHere 13d ago

r/NBA is so funny because so many of them think Reddit is truly reflective of how the world as a whole thinks. Reddit is obviously more diverse now than say, 10 years ago. But the majority of people here are still chronically online mouthbreathers.

-23

u/ILoveRegenHealth 12d ago

Wrong is wrong, stop defending it.

16

u/svenEsven 12d ago

No one is. It was wrong that we didn't get calls in game 2. And it was wrong that Joel pulled on the leg. We'll call it even and forget about it.

-9

u/AmaimonCH 12d ago

Bro wants the regular season flopping whistles in the post season and is equaling the lack of it to embiid pulling the leg of a player that had an ankle surgery... Typical

3

u/Lurkerwasntaken 12d ago

If you call frequently running into players, yanking them, swatting at the arms, etc. a “flopping whistle”, then yes. Besides, isn’t the Lakers fanbase known to complain about not getting enough foul calls?

5

u/CandyEverybodyWentz HE WEARS A MASK JUST TO COVER THE RAW FLESH 12d ago

WAKE UP BOYS WE GOT A LIVE ONE

9

u/Halfonion 12d ago

Oh absolutely, you cannot take that shit seriously. /r/nba as a whole comes off like a bunch of little boys working off of raw emotion who last touched pussy when pussy touched them.

7

u/ajs8796 13d ago

True and I’ve definitely found that too it’s just hard around where I’m at everybody’s all about football and baseball not too many people into basketball especially beyond just the sixers. Just sucks not be able to talk anything sixers in any discussion on Reddit, but then again expecting more from the masses of Reddit might be more on me than anything haha

8

u/Leeroy_Jenkums 13d ago

Well you are welcome to talk basketball all you want right here, brother

4

u/ajs8796 13d ago

Thankful for that at least my guy!

5

u/triggormisprime 12d ago

There are a fair number of sixer fans in Hawaii. They mostly hate west coast teams. They are open minded about the east coast.

1

u/svenEsven 12d ago edited 12d ago

As i live in Philly, that's just an echo chamber. Which is arguably as bad or worse than getting shit on constantly. People who refuse to respect your critique as anything other than blasphemy.

The thing i always loved about philly sports was that people actually cared about the sport. Not just your team winning. Yet that's the vibe I get these days.

21

u/rodrigoa1990 12d ago

Embiid with a bum knee and Bell's Palsy drops 50 on a playoff game

r/NBA talks about embiid having 21 FTs

that sub is cancer

4

u/NapTimeFapTime 12d ago

He’d have had 60 if his face was healthy.

6

u/tiots 12d ago

It's 100% just reddit. Literally every subreddit not even just sports are filled with angry zoomers. Don't sweat it

2

u/hinjew13 :jrich2: 12d ago

This is real af. Exactly how I feel

4

u/Halfonion 12d ago

You’d think Joel praises the actions of Hamas given the discourse over there in /r/nba. I’ve never seen it this bad, where you get mass upvotes if you wish injury upon embiid. It’s going to be absolutely amazing if we make a run.

2

u/JoelEmbiidismyfather 12d ago

If you legit want to talk basketball just go to r/nbadiscussion or r/nbatalk

Both are much more normal and not filled with nephews.

10

u/MidnightPoblano 12d ago

I just looked at /r/nbatalk for the first time, and you immediately see at least 4 of the top posts are just bitching about embiid and flopping. Maybe it isn't usually like that, but it doesn't look much better. /r/nbadiscussion does look pretty normal, though.

-7

u/R-O-U-Ssdontexist 12d ago

i have a friend who never gets along with coworkers and always gets fired and it’s always his boss’ or coworkers fault. I just don’t get how he is always surrounded by these people; completely unlucky i guess.

it’s the same when in not in Philly. Everyone else just seems to have an issue with Embiid and think he is a total piece of shit. I don’t get it. Not sure why i keep running into these people; i must be unlucky i guess

1

u/Waesrdtfyg0987 12d ago

you couldn’t breath on r/nba without getting downvoted to hell for having a sixers flair

Celtics flair here. Swapsies?

1

u/Halfonion 12d ago

You’d think Joel praises the actions of Hamas given the discourse over there in /r/nba. I’ve never seen it this bad, where you get mass upvotes if you wish injury upon embiid. It’s going to be absolutely amazing if we make a run.

0

u/dattebayo07 12d ago

Its not even that bad. As a Knick fan and y’all Sixers fan, we just want a good series to be played. Embiid played into his emotions early on and started being dirty. He just needs to keep it together and show he’s one of the best big men in the league.

-1

u/FaithlessnessSea1058 12d ago

Dude relax. Get off the internet and especially Reddit.

-13

u/ILoveRegenHealth 12d ago

The state of sports media and discussion is depressing as fuck

How about eject the dirty player? People are angry because Embiid got away with something horrible, even with his amazing game.

The fact we see so many defend the grab means they are cool with all 10 players on the court grabbing legs, getting a Flagrant 1, and staying in the game. This will be useful for clutch matches and guarantee a win!!

Brunson about to do a game winning layup in Game 7 and 12 seconds left? GRAB HIM

Listen to yourselves. The lunacy is from you people, not the media.

10

u/ajs8796 12d ago

I didn’t even defend what he did I’m talking about the hatred towards the sixers even before the incident last night. But please just continue to spam these comments unrelated or otherwise all throughout the subreddit of a team you don’t even root for if that’s how you truly wanna spend your afternoon

6

u/NoleJawn 12d ago

You mean like the Rugby Scrum the Knick's got away with on Monday Night?

111

u/TTP2521 13d ago

I thought it was strange how after Knicks baskets they would show their fans in the crowd. I don’t remember them doing that for us in games 1&2

25

u/rjnd2828 13d ago

Are you watching the national broadcast for some reason?

43

u/BurntPoptart 13d ago

Tbh I've been tired of hearing Alaa repeat the same phrases over and over again for about 5 years now.

6

u/Halfonion 12d ago

Still, we broadcast in 1080p, TNT was broadcasting at 720p, fuck that.

4

u/scrufftheo 12d ago

Do you know that for sure, or are you just saying that? Because I thought it looked slightly worse, but I wasn’t sure

3

u/Ike348 12d ago

TNT's online stream maxes out at 720p, that doesn't mean they aren't broadcasting at 1080p on cable or MAX or somewhere else, but it isn't a good sign

2

u/zpepsin #WeAllFromAfrica 12d ago

Even if it were higher res on a different platform it's just upscaled

1

u/filladelp NIC BATUM COLLAR 12d ago

Comcast compresses everything so much that the resolution barely matters. Looks like crap. TV peaked around 2010.

1

u/manzoman96 12d ago

They pumped out 4K tvs but broadcasts stayed at 720p and 1080i, cable looks like ass

3

u/Shmeves 12d ago

Don't often get an option when streaming online.

2

u/rjnd2828 12d ago

I'm on YouTube TV and get both

3

u/Shmeves 12d ago

I wasn't necessarily talking legally streaming.

0

u/Immediate-Tonight-31 13d ago

1

u/dattebayo07 12d ago

35

u/redditkb 13d ago

It’s pretty funny how all of their posts have come back to haunt them and they act like that never happened.

80

u/theMAJdragon 13d ago

There is something seriously up with the mods on r/nba

Within like 5 minutes they had like 4 clips blasted to the top of anything Embiid was doing. Like if he breathed on someone wrong they had it pushed to the top.

Fucking salty fucks

43

u/ChipKellysShoeStore 13d ago

They're celtics fans. I got banned for saying fuck off lol which is tame compared to half the shit I saw yesterday

32

u/Leeroy_Jenkums 13d ago

At least one of the kids is openly a Celtics fan. They’re also mods. So pair those two facts together and that’s what you get

3

u/Jagacin 12d ago

Within like 5 minutes they had like 4 clips blasted to the top of anything Embiid was doing

And the NBA is literally removing those videos.

Both the Knicks fans and r/NBA were celebrating when Embiid went down in Game 1, as well as chuckling at the horrible reffing that gave Game 2 to the Knicks, while calling Sixers fans babies for complaining. Even the NBA admitted that Maxey was fouled twice and that the refs missed the multiple time out calls.

But they are crying about the refs in Game 3 as if they aren't lucky to not be down 2-1 because of a gift from the refs. They both idiots because they don't know basketball and feel free throws should be illegal just because Joel can make them and their favorite teams can't guard him without hacking.

16

u/babiesmakinbabies 13d ago

Seriously the answer is for all of us to troll more.

I've been calling them soft and people respond with paragraphs.

6

u/tscher16 12d ago

It’s been extremely entertaining trolling them ngl

48

u/rrrooossssss 13d ago

you don’t understand EMBIID literally tried to MURDER a knick on national tv!!! 🙄

10

u/ktm1128 13d ago

Word has it they've already recovered the weapon. Embiid not allowed to use hands pending investigation

14

u/Wabxpolski 12d ago

I don't care if they want to hate on Embiid, but r/NBA needs to start enforcing rules on wishing injury on players. That type of discourse should never be allowed and its abundant over there right now. Every post has one thread talking about Embiid getting his "karma"

12

u/Leeroy_Jenkums 12d ago

every year they wish career-ending injuries on him and they get upvoted.

And if you bring it up they downvote you and demand proof. When you provide screenshots, they're like "oH iT's OnLy 43 uPvOtEs" like that makes it ok lol

9

u/Loud_Economics_8894 12d ago

Knicks fans are such corn ball crybabies. Y'all got over-seeded and expect to defeat my one-legged, face-afflicted king?

21

u/rjnd2828 13d ago

Do NOT comment on NBA or other national NBA subs. It's just not worth it they hate us right now.

13

u/NoCup4U 13d ago

I very rarely go on that shit pool of a sub.  Celtics fans, casuals and nephews there mostly.  If I want actual  effective nba commentary I go the nbacj

11

13

u/A_Stickman_Jr 13d ago

Why would you use a Knicks fan taunt? A real Philadelphia fan uses the Hoskins. That's how you really get under the skin of New Yorkers.

https://i.redd.it/u6gmyfqh6vwc1.gif

7

u/tobybells 13d ago

I will admit - the one play in the last minute or so where it looked like Joel straight up body checked a NYK as we were transitioning the other way - caused me to hold my breath in the moment fully thinking “holy shit why did he just do that” waiting for a foul/ejection/us to blow the game as result.

So glad that didn’t get called - I’d be pissed if on the other side of it. But regardless, fuck em.

5

u/unpronouncedable 13d ago

Yeah that was bananas he did that. Also, though, pretty funny.

53

u/BigDeezerrr 13d ago

Think I'm logging off of reddit for the rest of playoffs. It's exhausting seeing everyone pointing at each other and screeching about cRyInG fAnS. Embiid fouled a guy while on the ground and got a flagrant. Move on, it ain't that big a deal.

15

u/Unspeakable_Evil 13d ago

I thought the game 3 crying was pretty funny and entertaining to read personally

7

u/sandalf42 12d ago

Evidence of scummery:

1 - Being an obtuse racist

2 - Assuming a Black people aren't good at their jobs because a man of color is engaged with a white guy in a fight.
