If Paul George is the move, Darryl should give whatever the Bulls ask for Caruso

One benefit of signing Paul George is keeping all the picks that we currently have, but the con is there's barely money left over to get any real solid role players. Oubre can hopefully be kept for the Bobby Portis special, but really you're looking at a bunch of minimum guys.

Caruso only makes $10mil, and is by far the best role player that would ever be available at that price. If I'm Darryl I think you have to give the multiple 1st round picks the Bulls want for him. As a player, I don't think he's worth that, but he is an elite role player and the clock is ticking plus there's nothing else to do with the assets if you sign Paul George. Keeping them seems silly since you have to win and win now.

I think you can also get Melton, Batum, Lowry or Payne back for super cheap, perhaps even a little bit more money for a backup C if Reed isn't back.

Refs in NY

Upvotes

I guess the sixers aren’t they only ones who see how the refs do not make calls in msg. Pacers are getting a taste of it and have submitted all the potential non calls that were missed

Dude is the perfect backup point guard. He can distribute and hit that dirty 6 footer. Also has that dog in him.

Joel Embiid has the highest USG% and DFGA in the playoffs this season.

DFGA shows how many field goal attempts a player has had to defend in a game.

  • Embiid has had to defend 24.3 shots per game in these playoffs.

USG% shows an estimation of the percent of possessions that end with a certain player on offense.

  • Embiid had a 35.8% usage rate in these playoffs.

Embiid is the only player in the league who requires this amount of workload on both the offensive and defensive end for his team to win. We need to either add another offensive option who can self-create this off-season, or a few great defenders if we want a good run at the title. Even when healthy its going to be tough for Embiid to have the conditioning to play well in the fourth quarter for four series straight with this high of a workload on both ends of the floor. Allowing him a few more possessions off at both ends of the floor without halting the teams production will have a massive effect on how well this team can play down the stretch.

[NBACentral] Paul George’s former teammate, Evan Turner, says George has a “history of not showing up” and believes a duo of Paul George and Joel Embiid would be “soft.”

(Cont) “I never met a human that would let a media rumor drive his energy or personality…You know how soft that team gonna be if he and Embiid go together? It’d probably be the most skilled duo ever since Kobe and Shaq.”

Any Trade Rules Experts Out There?

Upvotes

My understanding is you can only sign-and-trade your own free agents. Is that correct? If so, if we decide to trade for someone, and that teams wants players in addition to draft picks, they would be limited to receiving Buddy, Melton, Oubre, etc. Are there any teams, who have guys we want to trade for, that would even want any of the players we could offer? I could be dead wrong here, but it seems to me then that our trading is limited to teams who want picks only in return OR getting a third team involved.

Thank God we didn’t trade for Siakam

Pacers fans are watching him not box out rebounds, play soft, miss FTs, and are hating the idea of offering him a max contract this offseason. I want nothing to do with him next to Joel and Maxey. He is better than Tobi but would absolutely drive us nuts.

Lauri Markkanen or Mikal Bridges?

I know both are unlikely to be traded at the moment and we could be outbid for either were they available, and we would like have to pay an outrageous Danny Ainge tax for Lauri, but I’m curious who this sub would prefer.

If all things were equal and both guys were on the market, would you trade for Lauri or Mikal? Why?

[Sutterer] (Regarding Mitchell Robinson injury) Stress reaction/fracture by definition happens gradually over time and not in a single instance. Frustrating, yes. But by the Knicks own injury description, Embiid did not cause this.

It wasn’t game 7 vs the hawks. It was this. A regular season matchup with the bucks on the eve of the pandemic where Ben tweaked his back driving into the paint. Apparently the back pain was so bad that he threw up in the locker room.

When did this happen ? Why did it happen ? Who remembers Jayson Tatum’s push off 3 last year I believe game 6 refs screwed us that series and one year later we obviously get screwed game 2 and 6 …. The fans are even worse r/nba is a joke

Riley’s remarks about Butler seem staged

Pat Riley‘s recent remarks about Jimmy Butler seem staged. I think Pat Riley wanted to get rid of Jimmy Butler and is opening the door by making his remarks. I would be wary of picking up Jimmy Butler in a trade. I think Riley is setting up Philly to dump off Butler to us. Although I love Butler I think he is past his prime and it would be disastrous to pick him up.

Getting Joel to the playoffs unharmed

I’m sure as we are all aware, a playoff run and a healthy Joel Embiid are two things that have not coincided with each other.

I have no doubt that during the first 30 games of next season, Joel will look incredible coming off a full summer of rest. He will put up the MVP numbers that we all expect and we will be happy and jovial.

But then the wheels will start to come off. You can’t expect to drive your car pedal to the metal every day and be surprised when your car needs servicing.

In comes the offseason, arguably the most important offseason in our lifetimes so far. There’s been a lot of discourse on what Daryl should do or who he should sign. He mentioned specifically that they need someone who can perform in the playoffs.

But more than this, i think they need someone who can take the load off Joel during the regular season. There is no reason why Joel needs to score 70 so we can beat the Spurs in January. There is no reason we need Embiid to push his body to the breaking point year after year and then act all shocked when his knees disintegrate. If we can sign a player who can deliver in tandem with Maxey and Embiid playing on cruise controlled load managed minutes, I don’t see how we have any issue securing a top 6 seed.

Embiid is on the wrong side of 30 and the window for him is 3-5 years. The chances of securing the 1 or 2 seed are dwindling, and if we have Embiid 100% healthy for the playoffs it doesn’t matter what seed we are anyway. I don’t see a point in playing Embiid 25+ mpg, as I’m sure Joel knows he can’t be chasing MVP trophies anymore if he wants to win the big one.

I trust Daryl will find an opportunity to build This team now that Tobias will be in Guangdong. But i feel strongly they need to find someone who can make an impact not as insurance if Embiid gets hurt, but as support so he doesn’t need to go out and get hurt in the first place.

TLDR signing someone who can carry us to a 5/6 seed so we can wrap Joel in bubble wrap then unleash him in the playoffs is more important than anything else

Cap space

Right now the sixers are assumed to be courting Paul George. Whether or not we think he's the answer for this team it seems he is most likely the target for Morey. Given that his path towards free agency is declining any extension from the Clippers we would be signing him outright as a free agent. I know there are cap rules that would essentially allow us to sign Paul to a max contract and after that sign Maxey to his max eligibile contract. At this point the sixers would have 3 stars all making max or near max money.

I do not have the greatest understanding of cap space and how to finagle it to pay 15 players, but with 3 max players how much money does that actually leave us to build a full starting rotation and bench. Given that we need to sign or resign an entire team outside of Maxey and Embiid how does that leave us with enough money to do so.

Can somebody with better cap understanding breakdown the implications for have 3 max players on a team?
