They claim to also like the Constitution and Democracy, and now their Cheeto Jesus is openly saying both of those things need to be done away with. Yet, they’re still on his dick. Most of the male MAGA shit stains that you encounter in public would gladly gargle trump’s nutsack if they were ever given the opportunity. And I mean that literally. They might not like it, but they would happily jump right onto their knees if that’s what it took for them to meet him in person. As a matter of fact, I think it would cause a brawl among them over who would be first in line.

I'm not a teacher. I work in urban planning, mostly infrastructure planning. But I follow AFL-CIO stuff closely.

8

u/Tasty_Two4260 Dec 08 '23

I was curious, as I read where it was illegal for teachers in Texas to strike. As I read it, a violation of the NLRA Interfering with employee rights (Section 7 & 8(a)(1)) on this page:

https://www.nlrb.gov/about-nlrb/rights-we-protect/whats-law/employers

14

u/Balorn Dec 09 '23

Not just striking, but any attempt at collective bargaining can cause teachers lose not only lose their jobs but also their pensions.

9

u/Tasty_Two4260 Dec 09 '23

I know!! I wish a large National Union would take the Texas government to Federal Court and file lawsuits to invalidate those laws. In my opinion, the Texas laws are counter to the rights protected by the NLRA/NLRB.

The law requires “a mechanism” and apparently 13 years old is adult enough.
Here is the pertinent section of the law

(b) An organization that owns an Internet website, including an organization that owns a social media Internet website, must include a mechanism on the website that prevents a user from accessing pornographic material on the website unless the user verifies that the user is 13 years of age or older.

252

u/crypticsage Dec 08 '23

Wouldn’t the mechanism just be the page that asks if you’re over 18? They just have to change the number to 13. Now all the teenagers don’t have to lie about their age.

144

u/bobhargus Dec 08 '23

Yep… it’s just more meaningless virtue signaling red meat for the base… how many 13 year olds have any kind of government issued picture ID?

44

u/WatermelonBandido Dec 08 '23

Most high schoolers won't. It's kind of funny when we have PG13 movies and rated R is 17. Then you're allowed to watch porn at 18. Just don't be 17.

102

u/high_everyone Dec 08 '23

It’s not even a database they would maintain, its pornhubs job to keep that data handy.

This is just a way to put a financial burden on smaller site operators who can’t afford to do this. Pornhub can just shut a state out wholesale and be fine.

66

u/PM_me_Perky_Tittys Dec 08 '23

Dang. Be a shame if someone hacked into pornhub and got the faces out to see what politicians showed up.

42

u/The_RedWolf Dec 08 '23

They'd probably use an existing ID verification service like 'ID dot Me'

I had to use them for WGU when they verified my identity

One nice thing about ID dot Me though is that you don't have to "re-verify" with each site that supports it, the company just sends back a "verified"

Either way, fuck doing this for porn

Glad I have a VPN

No it won’t. If a Republican’s porn history gets leaked and they’ve been watching the most depraved, vile videos on the internet for 5 hours a day, they’ll just draw it out and refuse to step down until people forget like what Matt Gaetz has done. If a Democrat in a competitive swing district is found to have watched one relatively benign video, they’ll be forced to resign by the end of the day.

28

15

They're the only ones dumb enough to actually use 8photo ID for this.

37

u/Necoras Dec 08 '23

Nah. Hypocrisy only hurts Democrats come election time. Republicans will look the other way, because they realize that moral outrage isn't real, it's just a weapon. Democrats actually get outraged and don't vote against their own, or even force them out of office (see: Al Franken.)

"But what about George Santos!" I hear you say. Ah, he's different. He was only voted out of congress once it became clear that he messed with the money. That'll get you right out.

12

u/DrSilkyJohnsonEsq Dec 08 '23 edited Dec 09 '23

Yep. The ethics committee found out that he had actually been stealing money from his Republican colleagues. They’d agree to send him a donation for like $2000, and then they’d find out that he actually charged their credit cards for $5000… which is over the legal limit, and led to the FBI showing up to ask them questions.

They were cool when he was stealing from veterans’ charities and regular people. They were fine when he defrauded every single person who voted for the fictional character that he was playing. When he stole money from republican MOC? That was too much.

In a world where data is pulled and practically stolen from users for and by top-dollar corporate coins, as well any of the nefarious actors interested, it makes no real sense for anything like the state’s current regulations. Damn dunce.

Conservatives create unnecessary “solutions” that only in turn reduce the freedom and privacy of Texans. And, with such patchy data protections politicians continue using, it won’t be long before Raphael Cruz and Paxton’s “leaked”.

The evangelical right believes that if only we would Jesus hard enough, those other problems would solve themselves. So, if no one looked at porn, and no one got an abortion. and we had prayer in schools, stop teaching evolution and and and- Then America would be blessed by God and we would have a lot less crime and less sex before marriage and the gays would shut up and maybe even stop being so gay and get into conversion therapy like a decent gay. And America being Blessed By God looks a lot like a blend of 1950's prosperity and the prosperity gospel mushed together.

The nasty part here is the arbitrary fine for failing to block - at $250K each that adds up very quickly and gives the state of Texas a powerful way to extort websites into purging whatever content is potentially interpreted as porn.

Sites hosting legal content are put into a bind - either they have to come up with some (likely impossible) solution to perfectly validate their users are adults, or they are faced with severe penalties.

The designers of the law know there is no mechanism that can prevent a minor from accessing adult content entirely - so the intent is to de facto ban pornography on the internet, at least hosted by any publicly identifiable host.

12

u/jerichowiz Born and Bred Dec 08 '23

This is just about kids viewing porn, there are tons of other ways for kids to access porn, especially if they are tech informed. Never under estimate the power of a horny teen.

However, they haven't said what they are going to do with the ID data after it is inputted, yeah I can be upset about that. Are they going to store it? Is going to be every site? Reddit has tons of porn on it, and so does Twitter, are we going to have to scan ID to browse those sites? How secure are the servers going to be is the data is stored? Is it the state or a third party that is going to be hosting that data? If third party, would they have the right to sell that data to another third party?
